Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Eclipse Backlit Keyboard - Red LED ( PZ30AUR )Customer Review: backstory Summary: 5 Stars
With 92 reviews already, I have little to add, but perhaps I can save you from having to scroll through them.
The Saitek Eclipse doesn't come with a manual. You can download one from the Saitek website. It's uninformative, and you won't need it. The first time you plug the Eclipse into a USB port, the drivers load automatically from the keyboard--there's no CD-Rom. The Eclipse always loads with full illumination, but if you have a lamp on, it's not a distraction, so I'll leave it that way.
The keys have a nice feel. The only real issue here is the silver paint on the keys. I haven't popped a key off, but the keys must be transparent, and the manufacturer simply screened the key legends. Had they injection molded silver keys, they would have had to mold the key legends into the key, and then used a transparent piece of plastic, which would have been expensive. They could have illuminated around the keys, or used semi-translucent keys--either would have been a better choice.
One thing I don't like are the "tabs" at the corners of the keyboard. They give the Eclipse a futuristic look, but take up space and accomplish nothing.
The Eclipse is a solid keyboard. At it's current discounted price, it's not very expensive, but much better than entry level models. If I get a year out of it, I'll be happy.
Customer Review: Saitek Eclipse keyboard Summary: 5 Stars
Coming from a generic brand, old, slow, and quite hard keyboard anything would have been an improvement. Despite this, I can still 'feel' the things I like about one electronic piece of typing or the other.
The Saitek Eclipse keyboard feels solid, has a nice appearance (but nothing special) and feels good to use. Backlighting isn't the reason I got it but I occasionally use it. There are 2 levels to it, one for day and night use each, but I'm sure you'll just use them depending on your preferences. Mine lights red and doesn't seem too even when seen from the side. Numpad and generic keys are mostly OK, Insert-Pg Down keys don't light up as good.
In general it feels quite good for everyday work, there's no macros for gaming so I'm surprised it even can be considered to fit into that category. The only multimedia keys are volume controls, would have been nice to have playback controls but you might be OK using control keys à la Winamp and other programs. There's an armrest also which adds to the ergonomics of the Eclipse. Other things: USB connection (quite long cable), 1.5W stated maximum consumption and made in China.
Customer Review: Haven't been this impressed by a keyboard in eons! Summary: 5 Stars
Hello, this is actually the first review I've cared to write on Amazon, but I thought this keyboard was a really great product and Saitek should be praised because of it's success with this item.
First of all the response of the keys are very mechanical and provide a nice click when you hit them, I'm trying on it right now. I'm a touch typist and I can really feel the difference from the mushy rubbery keyboard I was using previously, that keyboard wasn't even full sized and for a desktop, it was odd.
They red lights look very good, especially paired with other items that have a red glow, they also spice up your desktop but not enough to make it flashy.
From what I can see I can press plenty of keys at once and that happens to help in certain gaming situations. Overall a really fun and great product, with less than 12 hours of experience I think that it will last me much longer than the previous one and it looks great too, so what a bonus!
Customer Review: Great Keyboard So Far Summary: 5 Stars
I just received this keyboard yesterday. I'm coming from a 10" laptop keyboard so the first thing I notice with this keyboard are the raised keys. This is taking some getting used to but probably won't be that different if you are coming from a standard keyboard.
The construction and quality overall feels great. The plastic is a high quality which is important because my son's favorite past time is beating on the keyboard every chance he gets. It comes with an adjustable wrist rest which I had a little bit of a problem connecting but works quite well. There are 3 settings for the lights (high, low, off).
While this isn't the traditional gaming keyboard with LCD Screens, Hot Keys, built in USB ports, etc., it a great keyboard with a stylish look for those of us who occasionally need to use our computer in a dark room.
I have to say that it feels and looks like a much more expensive keyboard.
Customer Review: Its cool, and practical. Summary: 5 Stars
I built a computer, and pretty much after I ordered everything else I forgot to get a keyboard. I ordered it after everything else, but it sill got here before alot of the other stuff, and free shipping too. I came across some other Lighted keyboards and not many of them had good reviews, and this one looked like the better deal without having to spend a lot of money. I pretty much only use my computer at night, and I usually dont have lights on, so this helps out alot, and its deffinatly bright enough to see even in complete darkness. Another good thing is that all I had to do was plug it in and all those little buttons at the top work, I bought keyboards before where those utility buttons up top didnt work at all, so its just an added bonus. Its pretty durable, only problem I found is that the keys strike kind of easy, so when I type and dont hit a key just right it adds the letter right next to the one im typing.
