Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Cyborg Evo Force PC Flight Stick ( PS27 )

Customer Review: Nice joystick for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

Very nice joystick works in XP and Vista.
The only sugestion I have, I would like it better if the throttle control
were placed on either side of the joystick instead of directly to the rear.

Customer Review: My experience was problematic.
Summary: 3 Stars

I want to say first off that the Flight Stick is pretty cool, and I didn't not like it. I had to send it back due to problems that I had with it.

The flight stick interfered with my wireless connection. I had to keep unconnecting and reconnecting my adapter to reconnect my wireless connection.

I had a problem system crash while trying to exit a game. A screen said it was with a driver that was installed. (The flight stick needed to have a driver installed.)

I had to use my window's System Restore in order to (hopefully) uninstall what was installed for the Flight Stick. I could not figure out how to uninstall the driver (or whatever else) for the flight stick. I didn't feel comfortable leaving whatever on my computer. It wasn't as clear as it could be to uninstall with any kind of instructions. (just unplug the Flight Stick and that will cause it to disconnect-which it did.)

If you try to look for any helpful information in the instructions or on the installation disc - forget it.

It's a tiny bit complicated for a novice user & game player.
(The instructions didn't even explain all what the stick did, or how it operated.)

The Flight Stick does have a good feel to it. It's a bit heavy. It can take a bit of practice getting the hang of all the buttons-especially in use. (A trial & error thing)

It doesn't work with some older games. It didn't work with some of the games that I had. (The instructions do not specify what games it won't work well with.)

I do not know if the Flight Stick that I got was faulty or not. Being a novice, I couldn't tell. (The buttons seemed to function ok when tested.)

Warning Note: Make sure that you read seller's information on return's, etc. I'm being charged a 20% restocking fee for returning my item, and I had to cover both way shipping. I had to pay to have it insured to mail it back (which is always good anyway), and it cost me more to send it back that to get it.

I'm dismayed.

Customer Review: force feedback is good, joystick seems off.
Summary: 3 Stars

I play one game with this joystick, Aces High 2. As a flight simulator its one of the best. I had previously used two older cyborg sticks, which I loved. (both of them). This one not so much. I think I was expecting too much out of the force feedback, but when it is engaged the planes are impossible to fly well, and I had to give up on shooting with the gun feedback on.

I have to calibrate the stick every time I play the game. Ive never had that problem on my other cyborg sticks. I have turned force feedback off totally as well. since I had to do that I might as well have bought the avi8tor stick for 40 dollars less.

Overall its a solid stick. works well when setup finally, but I guess force feedback is not for me. I cant see how it would work in ANY flight game and still leave you a viable pilot. The adjustability is nice though. and I prefer the throttle on the front of the stick like my previous cyborgs, but it works. Also it has to be plugged in to a wall socket as well as the usb port. That just stinks since I dont use the ffback that it needs to be plugged in for. would be nice if you didnt use ffback if you didnt have to plug it in.

Customer Review: Saitek Cyborg Evo PS27
Summary: 3 Stars

First joystick I have owned. Using mainly for X-Plane, find it's response to be less fluid and precise than I would have expected for hardware in this price category.

Customer Review: Force Feedback not worth the downsides
Summary: 2 Stars

After extensive searching for "just the right" joystick for Flight Simulator X, I settled on the PS27, mainly because of its Force Feedback feature.

The first surprise came when I noticed the AC power supply packed in the box. The manual states that "in order for your Operating System to recognize your joystick, please make sure it is plugged in before connecting the USB cord".

Once you have AC and you plug the PS27 into the computer, the setup is rather easy. Windows XP recognizes the PS27 right away and installs the proper drivers for it. The PS27 comes with its own driver CD, but the instructions state it is not necessary unless you want to install the optional programing software.

I opened the Control Panel and opened the Joysticks to calibrate the PS27. I found that everything worked except moving the joystick to the right. It would not register. I moved the joystick to all four axis, and after a couple of times doing this, it moved all the way to the right. Throttle and rudder worked great. Then, after a couple of seconds, the right would not register again.

I launched FS X and found that the same problem occured in the game. Turning left - no problem. Going up and down - no problem. Turn right - problem. Now, if my intent was to travel to the left during the entire game, this would have been fine. But landing requires both directions, so I read the instructions some more. I also found a separate sheet packed in box which apparently was left out of the manual. The sheet said that the PS27 has "Dynamic Centering". This means that it does not have auto-centering like most joysticks. It suggests that before launching the game, you move the joystick all the way around a couple of times, move the throttle up and down and twist the handle a couple of times in each direction (rudder action) THEN launch the game. It should be noted that this applied only to the PS27, which has Force Feedback.

So I did this and then launched FS X again. Same results as before - left, up, down, throttle, rudder, no problem. Right, problem. Now, the problem can be fixed from within FS X by moving the joystick all around during flight a couple of times. It will then move to the right, but after a few seconds goes back to not turning right. This is fine at 2000 feet, but when you get closer to the ground, it can cause issues, such as losing control of the aircraft.

I updated the software and drivers from Saitek's site, repeated the process and came up with the same results.

It is my opinion that the joystick was deffective, however I don't know this for a fact. The look, feel and features of the PS27 are great. The Force Feedback can be turned off, which I did, but the results were the same. Some adjustments can be made from within Control Panel, which are suggested by Saitek, but again, the results were the same.
