Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Saitek Aviator Dual Throttle Joystick ( PS33 )

Customer Review: a nice joystick with some disappointments
Summary: 3 Stars

I used to own Saitek Cyborg, which was very comfortable to use although had some precision problems. When I saw this one in a store, I immediately liked it, especially those vintage style switches and the missile button cover. :) I just got myself the Il-2 game, so I gave this joystick a try.

I should say that everything has worked so far great in terms of basic operations, setting up with the game, etc, but this joystick has shown a few little drawbacks, which are a bit annoying.

1. The base is too light, so during gaming I have to hold it with my left hand to prevent the joystick from unnecessary moves around the desk. I remember my Saitek Cyborg 3d model was much heavier making it more stable than Aviator. This is very unfortunate.

2. The panel which should be attached at the bottom of the stick and should support your hand was quite hard to attach around the stick. The screws were hard to put, as a result the panel is loose now and I don't have the ability to tighten the screws.

3. In my previous joystick it was possible to move that supporting panel lower or higher to the stick, so people with smaller hands (kids) could use it comfortably. This one doesn't allow to do this, so my 8-year old sone is quite uncomfortable using it as his hand lacks support from beneath.

In all other points I like it but would probably try something else soon.

Customer Review: Good Joystick for everyday gamer
Summary: 3 Stars

This joystick is perfectly fine for those not to serious gamers. If you are a true Flight Simmer you need a yoke, rudder pedals, and a throttle. Or you could a step less than that and get a joystick and separate throttle. BUT for the average, not to rich, and maybe not flight simming gamer this is the BEST JOYSTICK ON THE MARKET. I use it for BF 2, 2142, and FSX. It is a dream and the 24 switches make memorization a pain but every feature at your finger tips (you may see 4 switches but each one goes up and down and the switch in the middle changes the mutton 3 times so each switch plays triple duty). Independent throttles for left and right engines put a whole other axis of movement and control into your aircraft, it is also something the Saitek separate throttle models don't offer.

Customer Review: DUAL THROTTLE
Summary: 3 Stars

Dual throttle is great works well has a button to make it one movable piece.
The switch style buttons are a new and unique feature each switch can have two buttons assigned, one for up one for down.
No way to keep the joystick secure to the table or what ever it is you keep it on.
The mode button isn't really that useful unless you decide to install the software and clutter you computer with possible performance degrading processes.

Customer Review: Good, not Great
Summary: 3 Stars

Great price, and it works well, but i wish it was force-feedback and weighed more. I have gone back to my EVO, just because of the more substantial feel when flying.

Customer Review: Saitek AV8R Joystick
Summary: 2 Stars

My hopes were very high for the Saitek AV8R. I am an aerobatics sim pilot mainly, and I thought that for a routine that I was developing for a vintage aircraft it would be good, I leaped at the oppurtunity. I got the joystick about a week later, only to hook it up and be very dissapointed.
For starters, the jostick is way too sensitive. I tried to do a roll, and it rolled 3 times before I could stop it. With my current joystick,
a Logitech Extreme 3d Pro, the aircraft rolls once, in a realistic manner. If I gave the vigorous input that you'd need for aerobatics OR a combat sim, the joystick will fall on its side. It weighs somewhere in the 3/4 pound bemnchmark. You cannot fly in a combat sim, like Jetfighter, with any realism.
It may be the world's only dual throttle joystick, but don't be fooled by the picture on the box. The throttles are on the back of the stick. You can't even reach them without messing up your position of the column. The buttons on the front cannot be progmammed easily, and are also too sensitive. I found that in most sims, the only thing that they do is switch views, despite if you change the setting or not.
To sum it up, it may be good for beginners, but if you are into simming at all, then don't buy. The Logitech 3d Extreme Pro joysticks are probably the ideal for any sim;. They do not have force feedback , but the AV8R doesn't either. $45 is way too much for this joystick, $20 is too much, buying this is a mistake.
