Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Simran SMF-200 Deluxe 200 Watts Step Down Voltage Converter for International Travel to 220V / 240V Countries ~ Ideal for Blackberry, Laptops, iPods & Phones etcCustomer Review: works with Bodum coffee grinder Summary: 5 Stars
This converter finally works fine with my Bodum coffee grinder bought in the U.S which draws circa 160 W. With the previous converter I had to literally "start" the grinder by pressing the on switch multiple times until the thing cranked up. Maybe it was a problem with the converter which claimed max capacity of 1600 W or with the lousy connection since I had to use outlet converter in addition to the voltage converter. With the Simran there is no need to use the outlet converter because it already comes with the right outlet. Also, the connection between the appliance and the converter is firm. Because it fits my need I am going to rate it with 5 stars, although other reviews are right with the drawbacks (fuse, grounding).
Customer Review: Works great but buy adapters to go with it Summary: 5 Stars
I bought two of these before we made a trip to Ireland. I was thinking that we would have limited time to fool around with recharging stuff and with a cell phone, laptop, camera and a pocket PC to keep running we could definitely use two. I was right in that respect but after looking at other reviews I thought this would be all I needed. After we checked into our hotel I found out I needed an adapter. Fortunately the hotel let me put a down a deposit and gave me a loaner to use. Bad news was we could then only use one of the two converters we brought. Moral of the story. The adapters aren't that expensive. Buy several. The product works great so long as you can manage to get it plugged in!
Customer Review: check the plug of your destination Summary: 5 Stars
Before you buy this converter, please recognize that there are many different types of plugs/outlets. The plug on this converter is type C; which is in many countries in Europe and elsewhere. Type C plugs can also be used in type L outlets. Depending on the destination country, you may or may not be able to use this plug in the available outlets. As another reviewer mentioned, there is a safety in some plugs that require a grounding prong. C plugs do not require grounds, this is why this converter does not have it. So please recognize that this is a specific plug and not a design flaw; check the plug types of your destination country!!
Customer Review: No issues. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this item right before I was going abroad to Spain.
First off, shipping was fast. No problems there.
The actual item was relatively cheap compared to similar watt converters. It also has a nice LED light to show whether your item is being protected or not. Which, may not seem necessary, but if you're using a laptop or electronic without a converter built in, this could lead to a large amount of money is repairs, etc.
I've been using this item almost daily for a month and haven't yet had an issue, I will post again when this item saves the day or comes to rest. Hope this helps.
Customer Review: A Little Bit Heavy, But Great! Summary: 5 Stars
This product worked exactly as advertised. It was a little bit heavy and clunky, but well worth it to protect my laptop. I'd read other reviews that warned that these converters can get very hot, so I was on the lookout for fire hazards. However, after leaving it plugged in all day, it was actually cooler than the original powerbox of my laptop. I'd highly recommend this product, it worked perfectly. One caveat: it only comes with a two-round-prong plug, so if your outlet is different, (like mine in the UK) you WILL need an adapter plug. Luckily I had one. Great value for the money!
