This was the wrong cable for our needs. We are trying to connect an Apple MacBook Pro to a television through S-video. Apple provides Mini-Displayport to VGA, and we thought we could use this cable to convert VGA to S-video. However, the VGA digital video signal is not the same as the S-video signal, and you cannot just use a cable converter. You must use a signal converter instead. We bought the following appliance and had temporary success:

However, this was a low-quality converter and quit working after 3 weeks (a problem also mentioned by other reviewers). Local electronics stores carried a much higher-quality converter for around $60.
