I half expected that this item was going to be a waste of a few bucks. What I got was just what was advertised: a convientent, versitile, basic tester which shows three ranges (good, low, and replace). It tests all of the most popular batteries. I also don't find the hassel of use reported by other customer reviews. I have ADVANCED ARTHRITIS in both hands, and I can test ANY battery with a little patience. The best way that I found to hold it for testing was in my left hand (readout in lower-left corner). With your fingers extended below the sliding arm, to rest the battery on, slowly slide the arm down while slightly pushing the (cylindrical) battery into position. THAT'S IT!!! No big hassel! This tester is fine for everyday use, giving a very good approximation of battery's condition. No more weak or dead batter clutter - a real space save saver. I just may buy one or two more to have on hand: and it also makes a very practical small giftCustomer Review: WOW, so cheap yet works better than more expensive testers!!

I have tried a few testers and I have to say that this model is simple to use and accurate. I can test AAA, AA, C, D batteries as well as watch button batteries and 9 volt batteries. I just keep it in a shoebox with all my batteries. It has paid for itself already, let me explain. My son uses several electronic devices like CD players and remote controls that use batteries. When the power starts failing, he throws out all 4 batteries. I read somewhere that when that happens, it is quite possible that only one or two batteries is failing, so you may be throwing out the other batteries needlessly. Well when i tested batteries he was getting rid of, it turns out to be true. I also found flashlights where one battery was bad and the others were OK. The tester is also the most affordable I have found. Some buyers say that they felt it needed some tension or something to hold the battery, but that is not a problem with me. I wanted a simple and easy to use battery tester and I saw this on the internet. Being a good and reliable seller, I decided to buy this from Amazon. I received this item recently and to me it looked well and neatly made.I tested it with various batteries, AAA, AA, C, D and 9V and it was accurate. It does not use a spring loaded lever as some of the old style testers use and this is a plus. You just move the lever with your thumb to make contacts with the battery terminals. This is a much better design than the old testers with the spring loaded bottom side which would become weak and loose after a while.
From the looks of it, this battery tester should last for a while. Also it is inexpensive enough, that one can buy 2, one for your workshop and one for another place-I did! This is my opinion which should have some credibility since I am an electrical/electronic engineer.

This device is so simple to use and useful that I wonder why I did not have one for all these years. I must have wasted so much money throwing away good batteries and not known it. Before buying this, I considered multi-meter and some others. But all I want is to know if my batteries are still good or not, so I picked this one and I am so glad for it.
The tester works with a wide range of batteries, from AAA to 9 volts to button watch batteries. Just put it in between the jaws, make contact and it tells you if your batteries is still good or not. For 9v, put it to the contacts at the bottom. That is all there is to it. I used this to test my rechargeables and it worked well.
I saved 10 bucks right of the bat. I discovered a bunch of old batteries in my drawer still good. The tester paid for itself the first day I received it.

You could use a basic multimeter to test batteries, but it takes a little knowledge of DC voltage to understand the readings. This battery tester is basically a voltmeter for dummies. As long as the needle goes near green, your battery is generally good. It won't tell you if there is some internal defect in the battery, but for most cases, just knowing the output voltage of a battery will give you a good idea of it's charged state provided you know there is nothing else wrong with the battery.
I don't know why there are all these negative reviews because this is a very handy little device. I don't have to pull out multimeter probes everytime I want to test a battery. This makes the testing process a lot faster! Just open the jaws wide enough to accomodate your battery, close it, and see if the needle moves. Simple as that.
