Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries - 8 Pack

Customer Review: Love Eneloop
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally bought the eneloop "starter pack" at Costco in the winter of 2008. It included the charger, some AAA and some AA batteries, as well as the adapters needed to make the AAs fit in C and D cell battery compartments. I have rarely used the AAAs, but have converted almost all of my AA battery gadgetry over to the eneloops, which is why I needed to purchase some more. I find that they do hold a charge for a lot longer than most rechargeable batteries. They come charged, so there is no initial wait time to begin using them, which I like. The only minor issue I have with them is that they tend to discharge a little more quickly than conventional one time use batteries when they are used in items with a digital readout. I have several small temperature sensors and weather stations around my property. I find that when the eneloops are nearing the end of their reserve, my readouts get a bit dodgy, and the temperature or time will be way off. Not a terrible problem, as long as you know to expect it, and have another set of batteries ready to go.

Customer Review: Rechargeables That Has Shelf Life Close to Alkalines
Summary: 5 Stars

The biggest drawback for Nickel Metal Hydride batteries is the shelf life. I got gadgets and toys all around the house, so I constantly charging batteries to have them ready when I need them. There will be very little juice left if you put them in the shelf unused for a couple of months. A waste of time and energy. Hence, one of the biggest advancement in battery technology is the arrival of the new low discharge Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. This is another great step in helping the environment. I have very few left of the old batteries since I started to replace all of them with low discharge batteries. Eneloops and Duracell are 2 of the best of its kind.

Pros:
-Low discharge.
-Well constructed
-Conventional size and dimension. I had other batteries that I have to use a screwdriver to remove from my camera because it is fatter than other "AA's".
-Looks so sleek and sexy designwise

Cons:
-More expensive than ordinary NiMh
-Not available at many stores
-Maxes at around 2000-2100 mAh

Customer Review: This is what all rechargeable batteries shoul be
Summary: 5 Stars

My first Eneloop was purchased in 2007. I've bought over 100 since and phased out all my other batteries, one-time use and rechargeable. Every parent knows how many batteries are eaten by toys every year. That reason along would put Eneloop at the front row when selecting batteries. The name that is "pre-charged" is not telling the story. The fact it can claim that is because Eneloop can last very long time after charging yet hold charges.

This is very important as many batteries are wasted simply because kids move their interests quite often: some toy sits there for several months and picked up the other day. I need something "ready to use" without surprises.

My complains would be to the chargers. 2007 models can charge one battery but now all chargers need to charge two at a time. Maybe they simply forget one battery can do many tasks as well. Also the charging time is quite long. Maybe that is one of the secrets why the battery can hold charge longer.

Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Replacing all stocks with these
Summary: 5 Stars

We are in hurricane country and want our batteries to work when we need them. We also want to have a large supply of them, and using rechargeables (with solar as we do) effectively gives us an large supply of them. They have a large up-front cost relative to regular batteries, but these are rechargeable for so many cycles, and they maintain a charge so well - unlike most rechargeables - that they will effectively give us continuous use with rotation for years.

All of our conventional batteries are being replaced with these as budget permits. With the C and D adapters (which actually do work well, they just don't give as much longevity per charge) you can replace virtually all of your battery stocks with these. Add some solar charging capacity or other off grid energy source and you have a good degree of independence, at least as far as battery-powered gadgets are concerned. Add solar and use it regularly, and the high initial cost will more than pay for itself in monthly electric bill savings.

Customer Review: Power to the People
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought some Eneloop batteries for my Nikon flash after reading the instructions and they state that rechargeables are the preferred battery type. I was a little concerned as I had tried rechargeable batteries many years ago and they just wouldn't hold a charge and they wouldn't recharge many cycles. I had totally given up on them and thrown them all away with their miserable chargers.

These are absolute magic compared to the old types. Put four of these in my flash and I am good for 2-300 pictures at full flash output. They will recycle the flash as fast as I can frame a shot. With the fifth battery attached to the flash, it will take a 3-4 picture burst in a second with the flash firing near full power for every one.

They recharge quick enough and hold their charge forever (well, a long time) stored in a drawer. I now use 5 for my flash and 8 for my battery grip. Plus I have swapped out every other AA battery in the house with these babies. Can't recommend them enough.
