Customer Review: One small step for battery manufacturers, one giant leap for casual picture takers

Casual picture takers take a few pictures at a time and have had trouble dealing with the quick self discharge rate of traditional NiMh batteries. You had batteries fully charged, took some pictures, put away the camera for a week or two and wanted to take pictures again, only to find the batteries were almost dead and the backup batteries were not much better. I have a four year old Kodak digital camera and didn't use it often because of this problem. After I bought the eneloops, the camera started to shine again. Complaints about this battery seems to come from power users who use up batteries in a few hours and demand highest possible mAh. But for casual users, an eneloop at 2000 mAh has effectively much higher usable power than a traditional NiMh at 2500 mAh.
I bought the batteries from a local hhgregg store, which has a cheaper price. The time marked on package indicates they were already a year after manufacture. The batteries of course had lost some charge, but they still could be used to take a few pictures before they needed recharging. That tells me something about these batteries. To casual picture takers, these batteries are a great solution.

I first bought Eneloop batteries on a recommendation from a friend - I'm not really obsessive on researching batteries and charge rates, but he was and I was happy to benefit from the knowledge.
I don't claim to understand all the technology behind these batteries, but they really do work they way they claim. The time between charging and needing to charge again is much longer than my other batteries - I use these AAs in my battery-operated night-lite candles and they last for for at least three weeks, 12 hours a night, before needing to be charged again. My Energizers do not last nearly so long, and I will be replacing them with these as they burn out.
Eneloops also charge faster, in my opinion. And they definitely last a lot longer than other batteries, in terms of their entire lifespan - since it's always expensive to replace batteries (and difficult to find a recycling center that will accept them), I appreciate that these batteries "live" much longer than any other brand I have purchased.

Customer Review: Rechargeables That Has a Shelf Life That Rivals Alkalines

The biggest drawback for Nickel Metal Hydride batteries is the shelf life. I got gadgets and toys all around the house, so I constantly charging batteries to have them ready when I need them. There will be very little juice left if you put them in the shelf unused for a couple of months. A waste of time and energy. Hence, one of the biggest advancement in battery technology is the arrival of the new low discharge Nickel Metal Hydride batteries. This is another great step in helping the environment. I have very few left of the old batteries since I started to replace all of them with low discharge batteries. Eneloops and Duracell are 2 of the best of its kind.

-Fine quality product. Well constructed
-Conventional size and dimension. I had other batteries that I have to use a screwdriver to remove from my camera because it is fatter than other "AAA's".
-Can be charged on your existing NiMh charger.
-Sleek and sexy design

I bought a 4-pack of these Eneloop AA batteries awhile ago and I still use them. I would use 2 of the AA batteries in my Xbox360 wireless controller. They still last a considerably long time even now in 2010 while I play games. In fact, I haven't bought anything to replace this 4-pack in the *two years* I received them. I have a separate PowerEX charger by Maha Power that I use to charge these batteries - I don't pay attention to how long they take to charge, but I can't imagine more than an hour or two on a fully drained battery, I think.
The Xbox360 Play/Charge kit is nice, but once the battery packs are gone, that's it. I spent some $9 dollars and change two years ago, and I'm still using the same batteries.
I took a trip for three weeks in June-July and the charge levels were still maintained as well in my controller. I've also used the four in an old point and shoot Canon Powershoot when my other rechargeables were drained. I never felt like I was going to run out of juice with them.
This is a no brainer - these batteries last and are worth every penny.

I got a new digital SLR, and bought some new AA batteries to go with it (the fact that it uses regular AA batteries was one of the reasons I got the Pentax 200D). Actually, I didn't know this type of "low self-discharge" NiMh battery existed. I was a bit put off by the fact that they are rated at fewer milliampere hours than others, but the self-discharge thing has been a major annoyance in the past, so I decided to give them a try. I also bought some "Imedion" AAs from Powerex. When I got them, the Imedions required charging, the Eneloops were full up. I put the Imedions in the charger and the Eneloops in the camera. They lasted for a couple of months of messing around with the new camera, taking a bunch of shots in the process. The camera's battery indicator finally showed them at half full during a night at a folk concert (the folk don't mind if I shoot pictures of them), so I put in the recently charged Imedions. They dropped to half-full in a couple of shots, then to empty! So...I'm getting more Eneloops. Don't know what I'll do with those other inert cylinders.
