Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sabrent SBT-UPPC USB to Parallel 6-Foot Printer CableCustomer Review: Mac to HP LaserJet 1100 Summary: 5 Stars
I use this cable to connect my Mac to an old HP LaserJet 1100 provided by my employer. The LaserJet 1100 has an uncommon printer cable connector on the printer end, so a USB-to-parallel male cable is not an option. This Sabrent USB-to-parallel female cable connects to the end of the printer cable that I previously connected to my dilapidated old PC's parallel port. When I plugged it into my Mac, which runs an updated copy of Mac OS 10.6 "Snow Leopard," it was automatically recognized and the driver selected. Using this cable was a completely painless process for me from start to finish and I couldn't be happier.
Customer Review: Works! Summary: 5 Stars
Not much to say about this--I plugged it in and it worked, which is all I wanted. My LaserJet 6L is still working, so when I got a new Windows 7 machine with no parallel port I had to find some way to make it work. (I've bought other printers, but nothing is as reliable as the 6L.)
My only complaint is that sometimes the printer doesn't power off (there is no power button, it's controlled by the computer.) Not a big deal, since the fuser isn't on, just one small light. For months I've had no problems printing several different types of documents and some images--I highly recommend this cable.
Customer Review: works as advertised - then it broke as predicted Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for a 5+ year old HP LaserJet 5. Both a new HP laptop and a very old Compaq Presario automatically recognized and installed the printer in less than a minute. Both are running XP. Now we can easily switch the printer from the old desktop to the new laptop by unplugging the USB cable.
June 15 update - this cable worked about 30 days then stopped working. It's too late to return it to Amazon; Sabrent tech support doesn't answer an email inquiry. I replaced it with a $50 Belkin cable which works fine. It no longer deserves 5 stars, but Amazon won't let me change that.
Customer Review: Old HP printer with Mac OS Leopard Summary: 5 Stars
I have an old HP LaserJet 4 printer. It's not the Mac version, but it was working OK until I installed Leopard. Then it totally disappeared! The laptop wasn't even seeing it with the Parallel/USB cable I had before. With the Sabrent cable it showed right up! Took some doing to get it printing with the Gutenprint driver, but with this cable I was able to do it.
P.S. I'm afraid to install Snow Leopard because it changed printer drivers. After what it took to get this printer working again I'll have to think about it before I risk making it not work again.
Customer Review: Everything should be this easy Summary: 5 Stars
I bought a new computer for my wife, who uses an HP1300 Laserjet printer, which she loves. It has the old style printer cable, and the new computer only has USB. I bought this cable without checking compatability, thinking it was cheap enough to be worth a shot. I hooked it up without even loading the software just to see what happened, and the computer found and installed the printer in about two minutes. I didn't even have to load the drivers from the printer disk (Maybe I should anyway, I'll see what happens). What can I say, it doesn't get any easier than that.
