Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Sabrent SBT-EKU25 Ultra Slim USB 2.0 2.5-inch IDE/PATA Hard Drive Enclosure (Black)

Customer Review: Worth more than the purchase price.
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a 2001 Dell laptop that died back in July 2007. I was really upset because thought I lost five years worth of manuscripts, cover art, and over 300 mp3s when the motherboard wouldn't turn on.

Thankfully, the 10 GB hard drive still worked. While I kept the Hard drive and junked the laptop I searched for over a year (on public computers) for a way to get back my old information and found this enclosure on Amazon.com. I did a bit more research on compatiblity (ATA/IDE) interface and thanks to Sabrent's 2.5" USB Hard drive enclosure I was able to retrieve all my manuscripts, cover art mp3s and even all my Amazon movie reviews.

Sabrent's USB drive works great with Windows XP. After you put your old Hard drive in the enclosure, you just plug it in and it automatically recognizes it just like any USB disk. If you have an old hard drive from an old computer or a junked computer, this is a great way to get the old data off your computer.

This little case is worth far more than the purchase price. I recommend it to anyone who needs to salvage an older hard drive or who wants to turn an old hard drive into a USB device.

Customer Review: Life saver
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical when I bought this device. The reviews were mixed, but because it was only $12.50, I figured what did I have to lose? The background problem...all of a sudden my 7 year old Dell Inspiron 9100 would not boot. So I bought this to try to salvage what was on my hard drive...it took me longer to open the package than it did to begin recovering my files! This drive saved me! How many times have you been asked (after your computer crashes) did you backup everything?? I can now say that my computer crashed, and then I backed up everything....thanks to this product.

This isn't a style product. It's not gold plated, it's not air conditioned, no sexy rubber feet...it's simply a tool that does as advertised.

I also read other reviews complaining about it not working for hard drives larger than 30GB. Not true for me. My hard drive was 40 GB, and it read and copied my drive with no problems.

Customer Review: Also a good way to get out of mechanical trouble

I had a friend with a dead laptop with a lot of personal items -- tax files, resumes, irreplaceable photos, etc -- left on it. I ordered this hard drive enclosure, transferred her hard drive into the Sabent, and used it to pull off all her personal data and "sanitize" her hard drive of all personal info so she could send the laptop off for repair. Then I replaced the now-sanitized drive into her laptop.
And, since I already had a spare 2.5-inch notebook drive lying around, I now have a nice portable USB hard drive.
It's nice to know the alternative is there in the future, too.

Customer Review: Great value
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this hard drive enclosure to recover data lost when my old Dell Laptop died. I had to remove an extra connector that Dell had inserted on the hard drive, as mentioned by a previous reviewer. It was then very easy to insert the hard drive in the enclosure and use the included screw driver to close the case. I initially connected the wrong USB connector to the enclosure, but realized my mistake when I couldn't put the hard drive on the desk. Everything worked perfectly the first time - no software needed with Windows XP. Great value for the money.

Customer Review: Retrieved my files!
Summary: 5 Stars

My laptop hard drive was not loading Windows XP. I thought I would lose EVERYTHING on my computer. I was going to Best Buy Geek Squad to retrieve the data for a couple hundred bucks. Friend suggested a hard drive enclosure. This SAVED me a lot of money and stress.

Remove your old HD and put it in this enclosure. Plug it into a USB port on a working computer and it shows up as a new external drive. Copy all your data to safely back it up.

No stress! Easy to do! Instant satisfaction! You can buy them fairly cheap anywhere.
