Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Razer Lycosa Programmable Backlit Gaming Keyboard

Customer Review: excellent with a minimal drawback
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this product to replace a wireless logitech keyboard. I had a problem with the dropout while typing and gaming. Also I had a problem with the number of keys that could be pressed at one time with my logitech keyboard. This razer keyboard suffers from neither of those problems.

If you're looking for back-lit as a primary criteria, this is not very flexible. The lighting is adequate but you are unable to adjust the brightness. Turning off the back-lighting makes the key labels disappear entirely.

The media controls are a little unintuitive, but once you learn their locations they suffice. They are almost invisible when back-lighting is off.

The key feel is very comfortable to me, however as a student I use a laptop for much of my typing so I prefer the feel of a laptop's keys.

The notch where the wrist rest attaches makes the keyboard unusable without it. This also isn't a real problem as you should use it (i didn't before this keyboard) and the wrist rest feels comfortable.

The biggest drawback that I found is that it requires 2 usb ports to function. I have an old, cheap motherboard (that came with a barebones kit, i'd suggest splurging on a higher quality motherboard it'll help in the long run) that has only 4 usb ports. This keyboard takes up 2 of my precious usb slots. In today's usb heavy peripheral market this may mean that you need unplug a peripheral to plug in this keyboard. There is a usb slot on the keyboard itself, however it is not usb 2.0. The headphone and mic jacks on the keyboard are nice, but not useful in my setup.

If you have the usb ports to spare, i highly recommend this keyboard, if you're usb ports are at a premium, then you may want to shop a little longer.

in short, excellent feel, quality design, decent price.

Customer Review: Amazing Keyboard!
Summary: 5 Stars

I upgraded from a wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse, both from Logitech to this Lycosa Keyboard and the 3.5G Razer Deathadder. I must say that this was the best choice I have ever made on a keyboard and mouse combination. The blue backlighting on the keyboard is perfect, not too bright, and it really helps to see the keys in the dark. I also enjoy the WASD cluster key lighting which is great for gaming. This keyboard actually uses two USB slots in your computer, but can work with just one. I use two slots and never lose connection from the keyboard to the computer it's reaction to the keys I press are instant and I have had no problems at all as far as pressing a key and getting an instant response. You are guaranteed not to lose connection if you are using both USB's for this keyboard, which is nice since my last wireless keyboard used one USB and the signal was awful. On the wireless logitech keyboard I would press a key and nothing would happen from time to time. The keys have a really nice feel to them, and I have not noticed them wearing down at all, it seems like they will last a long time. The glossy finish to the keyboard looks nice; however, will get finger prints on it, but it's easy to clean. The top right corner of the keyboard has a touch panel that has a fast response to change the lighting from WASD cluster, to fully lit, to no lighting at all. This keyboard worked as soon as I plugged it in, the software can be used to set up your macros or to get updates on the product. The packaging is great for the product and it looks amazing coming out of the box. I hope this review helped for those of you who are avid gamers and also for those who are not, or are planning on becoming gamers. Try this keyboard and you will not be disappointed, 5 STARS! :D

Customer Review: Great keyboard, one glitch
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this keyboard a 3 months ago. It is great! I was thinking about buying a keyboard with more lighting options, but I figured that I would only use blue anyway, so I wouldn't spend the extra money. It turned out to be a great choice! The keys feel great with their rubbery texture and look great. The shiny part of the keyboard (where the keys aren't) collects dust, but not fingerprints, like I originally thought it would. My only problem with it is that, yesterday, I was playing a game and the windows media player opened and when I closed it, it opened up again. This went on for about ten minutes, some of the keys stopped working temporarily and the whole keyboard stopped working. I looked this up on my other computer while it was happening and it had happened to someone else with this keyboard and they thought it was the keyboard. This makes perfect sense because the keys stopped working at the same time this happened. Maybe its a problem with the software on the keyboard because it could be just putting in the command to open this. Twenty minutes later, it went away when I unplugged the keyboard. This is not a reason to not buy this, but its a warning. Just unplug it and plug it back in or just wait and it should be fine. It is not a virus with the computer, but with the keyboard, so you dont have to run a scan or anything. Since it was so long before this happened, I don't hate the keyboard for being mean to my conputer, since it helped me so much. Get this keyboard, but if the above problem happens, just unplug the keyboard and it will be fine.

Customer Review: Simply the best
Summary: 5 Stars

This keyboard is a dream come true. It is everything and more that I wanted in a gaming keyboard. This keyboard is slick, stylish, and user friendly. The backlighting is awesome; bright enough that you can see it even in bright light, and not so bright that you are blinded when you look at the keys in the dark. The keys have very nice feel to them, very pleasant to the touch. This keyboard is everything that it says it is.

There are a few downsides... First and foremost, dirt and fingerprints shows up VERY well on this keyboard. Though easy to clean, this can still be a pain as I found I spend a lot more time cleaning my keyboard then I used to. Second, the keys are kinda loud. Not that great for gaming in the middle of the night while you spouce is sleeping in the same room. Third, I like to leave my computer on at night, and even though you can turn off the backlighting, there are a few lights that always shine. For me, this is a huge problem as I have a glass desk, and the light from the keyboard shines through, brighting the room while I am trying to sleep. This are all very minor issues which are easy to solve/take care of, and are not something that should turn you away from such a wonderful device.

Customer Review: The Backlighting Is Fine
Summary: 5 Stars

This review is mainly for the backlighting. I had read that the backlighting wasn't very good for this keyboard. The review at C-Net especially kept me from getting this keyboard for a long time. Eventually, I took the plunge and purchased it because I had been using keyboards with "gamer" sections like The Merc Stealth. Great keyboard by the way. I wanted to get a keyboard with a regular setup that took up less space. I also wanted to be able to easily reach the F keys while playing my many games. The backlighting for the Razer Lycosa is perfectly fine. The C-Net reviewer said that the backlight does not even stand out in a darkened room. Maybe Razer updated this keyboard or maybe C-Net had a defective one. I have a very dark basement room with a small window that barely lets in any sunlight. Not only is the backlight nice and bright in these darkened conditions but it's also perfectly visible with my bright overhead light on as well.

I really like all the other features for this keyboard. The look and feel are incredible. The keyboard is small and light yet sturdy. I'm also a big fan of the "laptop" feel and lack of extra macro buttons.
