Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Razer Lycosa Mirror Gaming Keyboard - Special EditionCustomer Review: So Far, So Good Summary: 5 Stars
I have heard a lot of negativity about this keyboard. It seems there is a decent amount of "high price, cheap quality" arguments augmenting the review bell curve. I'm not discrediting those reviews in the least. However, I have had the keyboard for several weeks now, and have not encountered any sort of ghosting, faulty key issues. The keys feel suitably sturdy to me, and I have not had any issues in any of my gaming. I'm a big Bad Company 2 and Counter Strike: Source fiend, so I would have noticed any lag or performance issues.
One reason I went with this model over the standard Lycosa is the mirror finish. The regular model apparently suffers from issues with the lettering coming off of the keys after extended use. I attribute this to the rubber finish, so I opted for this model with a mirror finish. It looks gorgeous, but keep in mind you WILL have to wipe the keys down rather frequently with the included cleaning cloth because it does shows any and all fingerprints/smudges quite easily.
The board itself is beautiful and is much better on the eyes than the stock HP keyboard my tower shipped with. The back lighting is attractive though a bit odd. The WASD cluster option illuminates in a teal, almost aqua, light. The full back light option is a dimmer blue, which I found a bit strange on Razer's part. It does get the job done amply well in low light situations though. My apartment is on the corner with no light, so it is almost pitch black in my room. With this board and my Deathadder mouse, my room feels slightly like the cockpit of a space ship which is more than okay with me.
The touch panel is an issues of contention among reviewers. From what I've used, the panel works decently well. It isn't the most sophisticated panel, but it lights my keyboard, controls my iTunes, and adjusts for volume without any real problems. Changing macro profiles is possible through holding down the touch Razer button and a key on the board. This works well enough, but I did catch myself touching too far over or in a seemingly correct area, only to change the track in iTunes. As I said, it's more a novelty and convenience for me. I don't use it enough to deduct points for it's functionality.
I will update if this keyboard gives me any issues.
