Customer Review: Not for left handed people!
Summary: 3 Stars

Although this mouse is sensitive and accurate, it suffers from the same problem that so many of it's type do. It is not symmetrical and is formed for the right hand. For left handed people like me (and many others out there), it makes it a fairly uncomfortable product to use and results in accidental button presses etc. That being said, I will keep the one that I got, but I would definitely look closer at how the mouse is shaped and bias away from a non symmetrical mouse in the future.

Customer Review: drivers are awful
Summary: 2 Stars

the problem with the razer mouse (and i've been using the same one for over a year) is not in design (which is actually very good), but in software and firmware. i bought my mouse near the end of 2008 and happily installed the software on my then 4 yr old g5. the mouse slowed way way down. i could not seem to get the mouse to the right speed for quick and accurate gameplay. i tried a combo of adjusting the sensitivity in the death adder software and the speed in system preferences. it just would not cooperate. every time my computer would go to sleep, or even sometimes when i'd open a new program, the deathadder software would just reset the mac system preferences. it was really frustrating and made the mouse difficult to use.

3 or 4 months later, we purchased a new computer. being a very smart girl, i did not install the deathadder software on our new computer. the mouse then worked like a charm. i was happy to give up the possibility to make macros so that i would have a very accurate and fairly comfortable mouse with 2 very large buttons on the side for casting spells (i'm a healer in wow and use clique and grid-for those of you familiar).

here it is about a year later and i'm once again frustrated. my scroll wheel/third button randomly stopped working in wow. it worked in everything else, but not wow. i tried downloading a smart mouse program from apple to fix it. it didn't. i tried everything i could think of before, in exasperation, i downloaded the software from razer. it fixed the problem, but i was stuck with the speed problem again, which was even worse than i remembered. i crossed my fingers and hoped that if i uninstalled the deathadder software, i'd be back to my old non-customizable (but very functional) deathadder. no such luck, what i'm now left with is a mouse that is either way way way too slow, or a mouse that only has 1 clickable button, because when i uninstalled the software it corrupted the firmware so much that all of the mouse buttons register only as left click. grrrr. also, i can't download the firmware for my mouse because according to their support page, you can't download the firmware and use it on a mac. that's right, you have to use/have a pc in order to fix the product marketed for mac.

on their site, in the support section, they acknowledge problems with the drivers. apparently the drivers are not meant to work beyond 10.5.4. they're "working" on it, but i don't really have any faith as this seems to be a recurring problem for them. if i were looking for a mouse, i would consider buying this one only if i was especially attached to the ergonomics and button setup (the large side buttons ARE really nice). i would not buy this mouse thinking that i was getting a customizable, macroable mouse because the ability to do that rests with the drivers/software and they just are awful.

my two cents...

Customer Review: Mac-compatible, but not desk-compatible

This mouse was an incredible disappointment. I had very high hopes since I have heard nothing but good things about Razer and this mouse in particular.

Back-story: I was looking for a good, relatively symmetric, mouse to use for productivity applications on my Mac and gaming in Windows on the Boot Camp partition. The idea of a mac-specific gaming mouse called a death adder caused me to chuckle, and I liked the light-up white better than the light-up blue. I am supportive of companies that make mac-specific products, even if they are re-branded PC components. The market share for Mac is still much smaller than Windows, so I appreciate companies making that investment.

The Problem: In my setup, I use a mouse without a mousepad on a matte-white Ikea desk. The 3G Optical engine in the death adder is unable to track at all on this surface, and drifts continuously left or right horizontally. Every other optical or laser mouse I have tried works fine on this surface. Interestingly, the Death Adder tracks fine on a glossy wood-grain surface, or even the aluminum surface of my Mac, or on a white piece of paper.

Razer suggested that I used a mousepad, but I was disappointed in paying so much for a mouse that was so limited in surface utilization. Returned.

Customer Review: It was great ... while it lasted

I purchased this mouse for use primarily with World of Warcraft and found it to be everything I wanted in a gaming mouse for the Mac. I also found it to be a fantastic mouse for everyday tasks (web browsing, word processing, etc.) However, about 30 days after purchasing it, the mouse began to intermittently work and finally failed completely. After dealing with the mysterious customer support / return process (separate emails for product support and then a tracking number), and sending the mouse back for service at my expense, Razer sent me a replacement mouse ... for Windows. I'm now a little over two days into waiting for a response to when I can expect to get the correct mouse for my Mac.

We'll see how / if this problem gets resolved, but I can't recommend purchasing from Razer until they get their customer service & support issues fixed.

Update, November 2009: After a few *months*, Razer finally agreed to send me another replacement mouse. When it showed up, I opened it to find ... another Windows mouse. I can't recommend Razer at all based on its awful customer service.

Customer Review: Mouse didn't work, tech support was terrible.

I have a Mac, thats why I got this mouse. I saw reviews that said these guys make great mice, and I decided it was time to step up. Got the mouse in the mail, looked great. Started playing WoW, pointer started jumping all over the place after 5 minutes of gameplay. Tech support let me know that if I wanted to upgrade the firmware, I would need a PC...thats right, a PC. This is supposed to be designed for Macs. When I explained that I didn't have a PC and would have to take this thing in to my work and install a bunch of stuff on my work PC just to get my 'Mac' mouse working, they said 'sorry for the inconvenience' Shoddy product, worse tech support. I have returned this thing and will never recommend the product.
