Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater

Customer Review: Works Well and Easy to Install - Highly Recommended!
Summary: 5 Stars

The "RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater" solved the problem of getting video from our old VCR\DVD into a room that we couldn't run cables. The set contains everything needed, including a Transmitter unit, a Receiver unit, an IR "Mouse" (used to extend remote control signals), two sets of video\audio cables, and two power supplies.

We installed the transmitter and receiver in rooms about 40' apart, separated by three walls. Setup was very easy and literally took about 10 minutes start to finish. Here are my observations:

+ Video Quality: good, but we did have to change the "channel" used by the units, which is very easy to select by button on the top of the transmitter and receiver units (make sure they are both set the same)
+ Audio Quality: excellent
+ IR Repeater: works perfectly, just point the remote control for the video device at the Receiver and the IR signal will be sent to the video device (a VCR\DVD player in our case)

This worked exactly as I hoped it would and really saved me a good bit of time and expense over trying to run new cables in my 160 year old house.

Highly Recommended!

Customer Review: This is just what I was looking for - works great for me!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was unable to get a cable line hook-up in the bedroom where I watch a little TV in the morning while getting ready for work. I tried a hi def antenna, but that did not work, too much interferrence and apartment rules would not let me put it outside, besides I missed CNN. I did not know these AV transmitters existed and somehow stumbled upon the information and researched them quite extensively before purchasing this unit on Amazon.com. It was very easy to hook up, and worked immediately, no fussing with the angle of the antennas. In fact the one in the bedroom is transmitting through a large mirror to the TV in the living room, through several walls. I have wireless internet and cordless phones and a cellphone. I am the only one living here so I cannot comment if more people were here using these devices would cause a problem with the RF-Link. But for me, the RF-Link was the perfect solution. I checked out the AngelTrax someone else mentioned in a review here. Do your homework and research first, and then you can decide which one is best for you. It does not appear AngelTrax is currently manufactured. I would rather buy a unit that is still currently manufactured than a discontinued unit.

Customer Review: Excellent picture
Summary: 5 Stars

I installed this product so that I can share my High Definition Comcast DVR in the first floor familiy room with another TV (standard definition) in upstairs bedroom. I was originally thinking of getting the 2.4 GHz Radio Shack product but the local Radio Shack store recommended against it (too much interference with Wi-Fi, etc.). I have 2.4 GhZ 804.11G wireless network and a 900 Hz cordless phone. The distance between transmitter and sender is approximately 50 feet with 3 walls, a staircase and a floor beween. All construction is standard wooden - no brick walls.

Getting the Video was a snap - did not require any precise alignment of antennas. Excellent picture. Getting the remote working was a bit of a hassle. After a lot of experimentation, I found out that the IR signal is too strong and it was temporarily "blinding" my DVR. After moving the unit a bit away from the DVR, the remote works perfectly. (Product manual does not have any info on this).

I also changed my DVR setting from 16x9 to 4x3 - does not affect my HDTV but gives full screen on my regular TV for HD channels.

I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: Not HDTV but produces an incredible picture.

I wanted to put a TV in my bedroom but didn't want to run any new cables through the house. So, I had used a few video transmitters in the past and was wondering if they had improved. What could it hurt to try one out. Well, after a lot of research I settled on this product. WOW, was I impressed. I was sure there would be some noticeable effect that this was video being transmitted (like in the old style units). However, there is barely anything that would indicate this. No snow, no lines, no flutters, etc... Once in a blue moon I may notice some quick instance or distortion that reminds me this is a cable less set-up. Other than that the picture is good, the sound is good, and the IR repeater works flawlessly. I am VERY happy with this purchase and am planning on buying a few more receivers for my kitchen TV and my PC. My transmitter and receiver are about 50 feet from each other with 3 walls and some various furniture in between. My microwave oven is between the transmitter and receiver and has never made the slightest glitch in the picture or sound. This is definitely and impressive product and worth every penny.

Customer Review: GREAT RECEPTION: EASY INSTALL
Summary: 5 Stars

It installed instantly and once I lined the signals lined up the reception was very good. I needed to watch my favorite programs in the basement and I didn't want to put another whole in my house or for that matter to pay to drill one through Cinder block, so I ordered the RF Link AVS-5811 5.8 Wireless Audio/Video Sender/Receive. The picture quality is great once you find the sweet spot and the sound is almost exactly as good as the source you are transmitting it from.

They could set up the user manual instructions better to make people understand how the devices function together but I figured it out fairly quickly. Things to remember. DON'T TRY TO use this device off a VCR or HOME THEATRE RECEIVER. If you want it to receive a SATELITE or CABLE signal it has to attached to that source. Putting onto a VHS gives you FUZZ.

Make sure that you are alligned by walking to the side and back of it because if there is any area of breakage you will get interference. They line-up of the transmitter and receiver has to be very close think of the distance between them as LINEAR not SQUARE.
