Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR RepeaterCustomer Review: DON'T HESITATE TO BUY THESE FOR CHRISTMAS (Read On) Summary: 5 Stars
I literally just received these and set them up. I had been using the similar LeapFrog units for several years with no problem, 'til now. Unfortunately I live in a apartment building where several of my neighbors use 2.4ghz electronics. Since the LeapFrog units also use this frequency I was constantly moving and adjusting the units to get away from the signal interference. A few weeks ago it got to be too much. After researching other options I decided these would solve my problem. I admit I was apprehensive about buying these sight unseen (as I'm sure you are) but went for it anyways. Am I Glad I did. They are even better than the reviews I've read. The "transmitter" sits next to my tv in one room (the IR "eye" is talking to my Tivo (I think they call it the remote extender). The receiver is on top of my other tv in my bedroom. Although both units are approx 13ft apart line of sight there is a wall in between. NO PROBLEM, it works so well I forget the Tivo is in the other room. I'm actually using the units with the video antennas flat and still have AWESOME signal strength. The remote extender works so well I can bounce a signal (IR no less) off walls and the RF-Link will still "see" it. These are simply GREAT!! CAVEAT: Make sure you have them both on the same channel (I use 4 simply because it has a smaller light - You'll understand when you get them). When first set up I almost panicked because I had a video signal worse than rabbit ears. Looked at both units and in one of those DUH moments put both of them on Ch4. Now all is good... soon could be for you also. Don't wait just buy 'em. Sorry for the long review but I just had to let others like myself who couldn't decide, YES! BUY THEM FOR YOURSELF, BUY THEM FOR SOMEONE ELSE. You will not be disappointed!!! ...and NO I don't work for the company I just love their product!
Customer Review: Never Been So Impressed Summary: 5 Stars
Like many others who have reviewed this product, I was skeptical when I bought it. But shortly after hooking it up, I find that I have never been so impressed with a gadget I have bought.
The problem I wanted to solve was that I have a Directv DVR receiver in the basement, and I wanted to watch the shows I recorded on it in my bedroom upstairs (I live in a townhouse). I did not want to purchase another DVR receiver since I like having my recorded shows on one unit rather than on two.
After research I chose this product. The customer ratings are what sold me. Shipping was fast and setup was a breeze - just plug in the rca plug on either end of each unit, plug it in and switch it on! I pointed my basement unit's antenna up about 45 degrees to get it in the general direction of the TV upstairs and adjusted the upstairs unit to point in the general direction of the downstairs one. It worked immediately. Several reviews have noted signal interruption when someone walks in the path of the signal. There is no signal interruption for me because both tvs are on the same wall of the house. What is amazing to me is the distance at which it is working with no problem. through 2 floors and a wall! Even better, the remote control IR to RF to IR works fine from that distance as well. Some remote commands have not been picked up on the first push, but after some adjusting with the mouse, I have had no failure that have been constant.
A couple of notes. Video quality is not HD, its more like VHS quality. But what do you expect with a wireless setup? Plus my upstairs tv is not the latest technology available. Also, this costs about as much as another DVR unit would be, but I opted for this for the convenience of having all my shows in one box not two.
Customer Review: Surprisingly Effective Summary: 5 Stars
I just rented a condo and Comcast came to set up cable TV. I was amazed to learn that there was no active lead in the living room for TV and internet. In fact, not only was the master bedroom the only room with an available lead/outlet, but there was no way a run could be made to the living room given the construction style of this multi unit building.
After spending a lot of time having other wiring specialists evaluate the situation and reach the same conclusion, I searched the internet for "wireless" solutions. Several were revealed ranging from several hundred dollars each to $35. I decided to go with the RF-Link AVS-5811 5.8GHz Audio and Video Transmission System with IR Repeater even though older reviews pointed out issues (I hoped that over time the company may have solved them).
It only took 10 minutes to set it up, connect everything and get it going. The living room TV (42 inch LG HD LCD) came to life with a great picture and excellent sound. There was no interference issues from my 802.11N Apple Extreme router and wireless internet system nor from my wireless phone system. I am transmitting over 50 feet through several walls including bathroom walls and mirrors/tile. I can easily use my remote in the living room to change channels on the cable box in the bedroom and set volume. All functions work very well. The system has been working now for several weeks with no heat issues or failures at all as shown in some other older reviews. I am very impressed with the ease of use and overall quality. This little system saved my day!
Of course, there could always be more features (something other than RCA analog output) and it could look a little better in terms of industrial design, but it works well.
Customer Review: Wow, very easy to setup and use Summary: 5 Stars
Having just remodeled part of the house, the last thing I wanted to do was drill holes trying to fish coax cable. Currently I'm using this in a spare bedroom while my mother-in-law stays with us to recover and I'll eventually be moving it to a different room. This was super easy to setup, had it up and running within 10 minutes without the need for reading the directions. If you do need the directions, they are very easy to follow.
How I currently have this setup is I have the cable box that is generating the signal in my bedroom and the receiver in the spare bedroom. The signal going through the walls and doors is very clear and the sound is not distorted at all. If you do get any interference there are other channels that you can change to if needed.
The only input/output on both the transceiver and receiver are RCA. I have a small cable box that I'm using that my cable company provided when all broadcasts were moved to digital and the only output on the box is coax. How I got around it is I'm using my DVD recorder to basically convert the signal from coax to RCA and then sending it to the transmitter. So basically I have the cable coming into the house going to the cable box which outputs via coax. That coax goes into my DVD recorder then I use the RCA output to go into the transmitter. A little extra work to setup, but it was well worth it.
One of the things that I love is the IR repeater that is included. With this repeater, I am able to change the channels from the room with the TV even with the cable box is in the other room.
Customer Review: Excellent remote video transmitter Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for this solution for years. Tried several 2.4 GHz units but every time the noise and interference made them not usable. Until now.
This transmitter works very well, despite the fact that I have two wireless 802.11g and 802.11n (5 GHz) networks with several Windows and Mac computers (router: dual-band Apple Airport Extreme base station), a 2-line wireless 5 GHz phone system with 5 headsets and another 2.4 GHz phone system with 4 headsets. To avoid interference, I had to switch my Wi-Fi router to manual channel selection and chose one of the high channels while setting the transmitter to the 1st channel. Within 30 min everything was working.
I use transmitter with the A/V Distribution Amplifier so I have an option to view the same program on two TVs, one locally connected and one via the transmitter. My Dish Network receiver (connected to the transmitter) is located on the second floor, the 70-inch TV (and receiver) are on the first floor; the picture is as good as locally connected standard-resolution cable picture on the same TV. I did not test it in HDTV mode yet, but I'm sure it will not disappoint. Overall - a great product.
Pros: Great picture and sound.
Easy setup.
Works with satellite receiver remote.
Cons: Somewhat inflexible antenna adjusting mechanism.
No signal strength indicator.
More channels would be nice (it only has four).
