Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Pyle Home PCA1 30-Watt Stereo Mini Power AmplifierCustomer Review: Perfect for Digital Music Players Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this for close to a year now. I bought this little amp along with the $35 Sony surround sound speakers that are sold here on Amazon through Worldwide Direct. This combination is the most bang for the buck I have ever gotten from Amazon. In a word, awesome.
My brother is a musician, who has literally thousands of dollars in amplifiers/speakers of all shapes and sizes. If you need something bigger and/or louder than this, you need to haunt some music stores and be ready to shell out some cash, because his refrigerator size systems are the only that I've heard that outperform mine. My little $60 surround sound system can get far louder than I need it to, and yet remains absolutely sparklingly clear, with no distortion at all.
Most of the folks I know who have surround sound have the system that they bought when they got their TV. It's idiotproof, with the amp and the tuner and the DVD player all in the same unit. Those cost at least $100, and they almost inevitably suck. They also take up a lot of room. One of the many wonderful things about this fantastic little amp is that it is the size of a few decks of cards. It's very heavy for its size, but still doesn't weigh too much to, say, put it on a small shelf.
It is dead simple to hook up. There are four ports on the back (two red, two black) for speaker wire. There is the standard wall plug and the equally standard male red and white RCA hookup. After my amp and speakers came in the mail, I had to go to Radio Shack and spend another ten dollars on a huge roll of speaker wire and a female RCA to 3.5 mm cord. Hooked it up to my iPod Touch, and have a surprisingly powerful, wonderfully small, high quality, and very, very affordable stereo system. (If you are looking for a sound system for your kid's room to get the earbuds off his head, this is a great way to go.)
My amp lives in my kitchen, on a shelf with the surround sound speakers. I only have to turn it on and adjust the volume. Simple is beautiful, especially in a kitchen.
If/when I get a TV, I'm going to buy based on picture quality alone. Even if the audio is rotten, I know I can just spend another $27 on a tiny Pyle amp (and more speakers, natch), and I'll be in business.
