Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of TeleZapper TZ 900Customer Review: What do mother-in-laws and unwanted calls have in common? Summary: 5 Stars
...They're a huge nuisance and just as difficult to get rid of.
In the 4 years that I have owned TeleZapper I can literally count on half a hand the amount of unwanted calls that I've received. It's very simple to install, simply plug it in to any phone jack. Keep in mind that TeleZapper works with any jack except for your kitchen wall jacks as this is for either standard cordless or desk phones; not wall-mounted phones.
The TeleZapper is completely DSL compatible and will work with all of your other types of phones and phone accessories, too. If you have DSL like I do, plug in the DSL filter to your jack FIRST. If you're using a splitter plug the splitter in FIRST as well. If you are using anything else connected to your phone, the other item(s) gets connected AFTER TeleZapper. This info is not included in the manual, but I learned this over the last 4 years. And believe me, I have just saved you a lot of time, trouble, energy and hassle.
The reason why I purchased TeleZapper is because I do not allow any unwanted calls under any circumstance. And 1 TeleZapper will work for your entire home (you do not need 1 plugged into every single jack). Also, if you have an unused jack, you can plug TeleZapper into it without a phone and it will work just as well.
According to Amazon's own description for Telezapper there is an "annoying beep every time the receiver is lifted." That is not true. I have never had any beeping sounds as a result of TeleZapper. I do not even know that it's connecting. There is no sound, noise or interference by TeleZapper whatsoever.
There are a few things to keep in mind though if you despise unwanted calls: there is not 1 single element that will block unwanted calls 100% on its own, you must be diligent and you must be just as pushy as these time-wasters that wish to leach off of your privacy, and you must never give out your number to anyone you don't know personally.
Besides getting/using TeleZapper, this is what I recommend doing if you want to rid yourself 100% of unwanted calls:
** Register your # with the Nat. Do Not Call Registry.
** Get a Private/Unpublished/Unlisted Phone Number (when you call someone it should simply say "private number" on their caller ID).
** Make sure your phone number is not listed on any Online Phone directories (just because it's a private number doesn't mean that sites like "anywho" cannot get a hold of it).
** Change Your Telephone Number on a regular basis (I recommend 1 to 3 times a year).
** Never give out your number to anyone, unless: a) you are certain that they won't give out your number & b) they know what your communications preferences are, and c) you wish to hear from them.
** Have Caller ID on all of your phones, as well as Call-Waiting Caller ID.
** Use *70 on a regular basis to disable call-waiting if you do not wish to be disturbed by any unwanted calls.
** Get Verizon's Call Intercept and learn how to use all of its features (if you do not have Verizon, call your phone company and see what they have, tell them you want something similar to Call Intercept).
** Report every single unwanted call (no matter who) to the Nat. Do Not Call Registry.
** Besides the Do Not Call Registry, there are a variety of phone listings that you can also register on (however the Do Not Call list should supercede these, but it doesn't).
** Contact public records companies such as Intelius and tell them to remove you from their public search listings.
** Don't be shy about unplugging your phones and turning off your ringers.
** Do not use Voicemail because this allows callers to leave messages no matter who they are and it also lets you get calls even if you unplug your phone or take it off the hook.
** Do not be shy about giving out a fake phone number if you do not want someone to have your number.
** Use a digital answering machine to screen your messages that will also play off of your cordless phones.
** And, most important, always remember that your home phone, computer, cell and other communications tools are for YOUR convenience, not for anyone else's.
Some of these methods may seem drastic, and I agree, they are. As I stated, there is not 1 single element that will give you total phone privacy. But, it's very fortunate that we have products like TeleZapper that can assist in getting rid of nuisance-callers.
Description of TeleZapper TZ 900AS SEEN ON TV, TeleZapper.
Automatically removes your phone number from telemarketers lists.
Plugs into any phone or phone jack to "zap" annoying computer-generated telemakrketing calls. When you've had your dinner interrupted by a telemarketer one too many times, treat your phone line and yourself to the Telezapper TZ 900. It's a simple, one-time-cost solution to the problem of annoying telemarketing calls. Based on the enormously popular classic Telezapper, the newer Telezapper TZ 900 offers the advantages of a slimmer profile, built-in battery power, and an advanced three-tone mode. Here's how it works: Given that more than 90 percent of telemarketing calls are placed with computer assistance, when either you or your answering machine answers the phone, the Telezapper emits a special tone that tells the computer your number has been permanently disconnected. Telemarketing companies that use automated dialing systems typically remove disconnected numbers from their calling lists, and as your phone number is eliminated from more and more telemarketing lists, you'll notice fewer calls. Of course, not all telemarketers use predictive dialing systems, and those that do will undoubtedly continue their work to evade the Telezapper, but it can be a partial solution. Most predictive dialing systems will be fooled by the Telezapper's standard single tone. However, for newer dialing systems (presumably designed in response to the success of the previous Telezapper model), the TZ 900 offers an advance three-tone mode. To change the mode, unscrew and remove the protective case and then slide a recessed switch. (We suggest that Privacy Technologies put the switch on the outside for their next model.) For the most part, regular callers are unaffected by the Telezapper, but it may "zap" calls from other organizations that use the same predictive dialing technology (such as charities, pollsters, and automated emergency weather systems) and from callers who use certain types of calling cards. (For more information, click FAQ, or frequently asked questions, in the left navigation bar.) Installation takes seconds. Just plug the Telezapper into your phone line and your phone into the Telezapper. It's that simple. A built-in lithium-ion battery provides power and will likely last for the lifetime of the unit. The Telezapper includes a phone cord and instructions. Privacy Technologies backs the device with a one-year warranty. --Mike Brown Pros - Reduces telemarketing calls placed by predictive dialing systems
