I bought some presents (laptops, cell phones...) to my family which live in the former Yugoslavia region (Bosnia, Serbia, Croatia) and this adapter worked great, for both 3-prong and 2-prong USA to 2-prong EU. Worked well in France. The *grounded* plug adapters are difficult to find in Europe, so US travellers are advised to buy them in the US.
Note that this is a plug adapter and not a power adapter. This is intended to use with devices that accept 230V voltage.

I used this while I studied abroad in Paris. It worked wonderfully, especially since my other adapter wouldn't fit into the recessed plugs that were in my room. I'm very glad I bought this one.
It is important to remember that it's only an adapter--your electronics WILL fry and blow out fuses if they're not meant to handle the voltage. My laptop, ipod charger, camera battery charger, and phone charger all worked fine with it. Other stuff I have probably would have needed a converter, though.
And if you're looking for something that will let your hairdryer or straightener or curling iron work, you're honestly better off just buying one in the country you're going to--even the best converters won't be able to convert the voltage properly on those kinds of devices.
It won't work if you're going to the UK because they have different plugs, but if you need just an adapter for continental Europe, this is a great one.
