Customer Review: Portta HDMI switcher needs power with laptops and lcd monitor
Summary: 5 Stars

This HDMI switch works without power for use with most DTV receivers and other TV related equipment, but when connecting up as a hub between two laptop docking stations (Dell &HP)and a high definition LCD monitor, you'll need a power adapter which was not included.

What's annoying is that there was no documentation included in the package, nor was there any symbol on the unit indicating the center tip polarity and input amperage. When I connected the unit to my equipment and powered up a laptop, my monitor would not wake up. I went to Radio Shack and purchased for $20, an AC-to-DC Power Adapter (#2730411) with (tip H), and configured it for center tip polarity and it worked!

Apparently this switch doesn't have enough power to transmit to my LG Flatron Wide 24" HD ready monitor. What's nice about the Radio Shack adapter is that it provides 1.5 output amps to the adapter plug and 1.0 output amperage to a USB port for charging all your devices. Once over that hurdle, the device works like a champ and auto switches as others have reported in their reviews.

I hope this helps anyone who may have experienced this same scenario. Just make sure that you use no more than 1.5 amps and center tip polarity, otherwise you'll probably destroy the switch.

Customer Review: Compact, well made, great price

I have 2 very long hdmi cables that are installed into walls connecting A/V equipment to the tv. One of those cables became defective and replacing that cable would have been time consuming and expensive. I connected my blue ray player, cable box and remaining hdmi cable to the switch. Problem solved and I have one remaining hdmi input for future use.

The switch was inexpensive and seems well made. The unit comes with a remote control and a infrared receiver which connects with a wire and 1/8" plug on the side. The remote is small and works very well containing 3 buttons, one for each device. I have been using the switch regularly for 2 weeks and it works flawlessly.

2 minor observations perhaps worthy to note. There is a power adapter input but no power adapter. Apparently an adapter is needed for some lower power devices which is no issue for my use. Second, and this is minor, the input and output jacks on the switch would be better all on one side and not on 2 sides. The existing configuration makes installing this on the side of a component difficult. I would have used 2 sided tape and put it on the side of my receiver if the jacks were all on the same side.

The hdmi switch is working great and an excellent solution to my problem.

Customer Review: Exceeded all expectations!

I have to say this the no-name switch outperforms the pros. I needed to connect my ps3 (hdmi) and dish receiver (hdmi) to an hdtv which only had a dvi input (using an hdmi to dvi cable). I tried the sony str-dg720 receiver for hdmi switching, then the monoprice hdmi switcher. Neither worked (the sony manual says it doesn't play well with hdmi-dvi cables, so I was going out on a limb there).

Now this little baby on the other hand, comes with extremely poor written instructions (think google translation of a foreign language manual), so I connected it not even expecting it to work. But wonders! Not only does it switch flawlessly between the ps3 and the dish receiver (producing a perfect output), it even has a "priority" function which works perfectly.

Basically, the dish hdmi port always outputs a signal, even on standby, so I keep it on a lower priority input (port 2). I've connected the ps3 to port 1, so if I turn on the ps3 this switches automatically to the ps3. When the ps3 is powered off, it automatically switches back to the dish receiver.

It's great to find a product which actually performs as advertised. Kudos to the manufacturer and CE compass (the amazon seller I bought this product from). 100% worth the money.

Customer Review: Works so well that I am buying 3 more
Summary: 5 Stars

I was searching for an HDMI splitter and I couldn't see spending a hundred bucks or more for one.
I'm always looking for a good deal but I'm not afraid to spend some cash for quality. As I was reading reviews from other HDMI switchers, people were actually saying how this one is great, so I decided to check it out. When I saw the price I thought it might be junk because it was so cheap. Wow, was I wrong! Its light and compact, has 3 HDMI inputs and 1 output (3 HDMI sources into 1 HDMI jack on the TV.) The one thing I was worried about was the quality of the video. It put out a full 1080P from my LG Blu-ray on my Panasonic 50" Viera, so that's when I knew I had a winner. It comes with a mini remote control to switch between the 3 sources, but I don't need it because it does it automatically. You have the option of plugging in a power source to ensure the auto switch, but I don't seem to need it (one less wall wart). Also, shipping was fast. I ordered on a Tuesday and had it by Saturday.
I'm now buying 3 more, 2 for myself and 1 for my brother. Just an FYI, I do not work for the company or know anyone who does, I'm just a customer who is ecstatic that I saved a butt load of money for the same thing a $150 unit does.

Customer Review: Excellent HDMI switch for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this for an old HDTV that has only 1 HDMI port. I was tired of plugging and unplugging the cable every time I changed between my PlayStation 3 and networked media player and should've bought something like this years ago. This switch is as simple as can be and really, you shouldn't have any issues at all unless you got a defective unit. Your HDMI cable from the TV goes in one end, and 3 other HDMI cables go on the back, one for each video device.

The mouse-like IR receiver has a length of cable and can be positioned to your liking. The remote is a bit flimsy and small, but it's unimportant since there's a button on the switch itself to select the input source. If only one device is turned on, it will auto-select that port, so there's no need to even touch the controls. A red LED shows the currently selected source. (The LED is always on when the switch is plugged in.)

You don't need an expensive brand-name switch. There's really nothing more to say. This works as advertised and works well. High recommended. For HDMI cables, you can order very inexpensive ones, like these HDMI TO HDMI 6 foot cable.
