Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Ultra High Performance HDMI Switcher, 3to1 Switch

Customer Review: Brand Names Aren't Everything
Summary: 5 Stars

Two words will summarize this product. If you want to read more than that, just keep going, but here they are: It works.

If you're still with me, I'll explain why.
Installation - Installation is simple. First, place it where you want it to be, whether it be in plain sight or stashed away somewhere. Second, pop in the IR antenna. Third, plug in the HDMI cables to and from your components and TV. And there you have it.
Use - This is where this switch truly shines. While the switch comes with it's own remote (if you can really call it that, 3 buttons doesn't qualify in my books), it has the ability to automatically change between the three inputs based on the one that is currently active. So, say you have a PS3, XBOX 360, and some other HDMI-compatible device (Cable, TIVO, whatever steams your rice~~). Assuming all others are off, if you turn on your PS3, this switch will see the active signal coming from the HDMI, and switch to that port! And if you have two signals active, then that's what you use the remote for (obviously). A heads-up though, it will not be an immediate switch, it, for me at least, takes about a second or two. But, if you really think about it, it takes about a second to push that remote button, or even longer to get up and find it, etc.

The Final Word - If you need an HDMI expander for your TV (The Sony 32" Bravia only has two ports), and you want the most bang for the buck, then look no further.

Customer Review: "Caveman" HDMI Switch
Summary: 5 Stars

With all deference to "GEICO" I must say that this 3 way electronic HDMI switch is "So easy a caveman can do it". It is "plug & play". If you're in the same boat I was in with only 2 HDMI inputs on your Surround Sound A/V Receiver or TV, you can now have FIVE. It powers itself off of the input devices and automatically senses which one is on and switches to that device. Although I haven't had to use this feature, in case there is a conflict between input devices, it comes with a remote control so you can manually select the input device you want. And the switch has a very small (and thus inconspicuous) wired IR Receiver for the remote so you can completely "hide" the switch behind your electronics and have only the IR Receiver in view for manual operation. It would be very visually non-offensive in a nice A/V system presentation.
New Surround Sound A/V Receivers have at least 4 HDMI Inputs now, but you won't have to dump your old receiver as you add new HDMI devices if you add this switch. That'll save you quite a few bucks.
Oh, and don't forget you'll need additional HDMI Cable; you'll find the best prices for those right here on AMAZON. I bought mine from AMAZON for something like $3 each for 6'. Don't fall for all that higher quality BS that's out there. The signal is digital and it either is being transmitted through the cable or it is not; the wire in between cannot affect the quality.

Customer Review: Awesome little device for the price...needs external power though.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have an older NEC plasma that only has DVI inputs or componenet inputs. I needed this switch to change between my Bluray and Directv box. I can only use one display input because I'm feeding 3 displays (bedroom, exercise room, bathroom) from these sources using a 1X4 HDMI splitter. This 3 Port switch works perfectly to select the source device, send it to the HDMI splitter then out to the 3 displays. The only problem I ran into was that the Directv box didn't supply enough voltage through the HDMI to activate the HDMI Switch, so since it doesn't come with an external power supply, I dug through my big box of no longer used electronic crap and found a wall wart from a Linksys router that supplied 4.5VDC and what I assumed would be plenty of current. It worked perfectly to my suprise. The directions nor the tag on the HDMI switch told polarity or current required so I took a chance with it and it worked. Now if the Bluray is on, it takes precidence, and if it is off, the Directv box is displayed. Now the only problem is getting the audio to switch on the old NEC. I'm hoping that an HDFury from [...] will do the trick there. I can feed it HDMI from the HDMI splitter, and it converts the video portion to YPbPr or RGB and the digital audio to analog. At least that's the plan. We'll have to wait until it comes in. But the 3 port HDMI switch is working great. I give it 5 big stars!

Customer Review: works just fine
Summary: 5 Stars

this 3 port HDMI switch does everything it is supposed to do without issue. granted, i've only had it for a few days now but there is no visible difference in the video quality. it comes with a remote but really isn't necessary. the ports have a priority setting so what ever is plugged into port 3 is always on UNLESS you power on something in port 1 or 2. for example, if you have your DVR plugged into 3 it is always on. but when you power up your Bluray player in port 2 it automatically switches to it. and when you decide to get your Madden on, you power up your Xbox 360 in port 1 it switches for you again.

it does have a "power in" jack port but i don't know why. it does not come with a power cord nor does it need it. it gets its power from the hdmi. the instructions don't explain it. but no worries

the remote works fine but like i said, if you set it up like i described, you don't need it.

it would have been nice if it came with a hdmi cable because if you have three things hooked up you will need 4 cables (3 in and 1 out). but really, you can put one on your order for just a couple of bucks (no need to pay more than a five spot per cable)

i've seen some switches for less money, and a lot for much more. i had no problem paying for this one and if it doesn't die on me in a month i'd recommend it to my brother.

Customer Review: Just what I needed.

Well, though I might have four HDMI slots on my HDTV, I only have two on my Receiver in which I run everything through. Let me give you a run down on what I have connected to my receiver and HDTV. I have a cable box, two Xbox 360s and a PS3 all hooked up through HDMI. My cable box was hooked up to my HDTV so I had to run an optical cable to get Dolby Digital. My PS3 was hooked up to one of the inputs on my receiver and I had to switch out the HDMI between my two 360s which to be quite honest, was a pain in the butt. I just received the product today and it works flawlessly. Now, I have all for of them on the same input on my HDTV(the cable box being it's on input while the game systems being hooked up to the HDMI switch. No longer do I have to change inputs on my HDTV AND change the receiver setting. What I love about this is that it automatically switches between everything that's connected. Let's say I'm downloading something on the 360 and I want to watch a Blu-Ray on the PS3. It's as simple as turning the PS3 on and it automatically switches over. When I turn off the PS3, it goes back to the 360. There's almost no need for the remote though it is nice that it's there if I ever do feel the need to use it. I don't see any point in paying twice as much or more for something that works as good as this does. This is one of the many reasons why I love Amazon:)
