Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Polk Audio RC80i 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers (Pair, White)Customer Review: Great Value Speaker Summary: 5 Stars
I was hesitant to install these myself, but once I cut the first hole in the drywall of the ceiling everything else was easy. The instructions were very clear and easy to understand. They addressed any questions I had. Like previous reviewers, I'd also recommend cutting just around the outside of the line you trace using the template.
I was told the hardest part is running the speaker wire through the ceiling, basement, etc. This turned out to be true. I'd definitely recommend running the speaker wire and figuring out placement before you order these. This includes making sure there aren't any studs, electrical wires or pipes in the 10 inch area behind the ceiling where you plan to install each speaker.
These are a great value (got them for around $125 for the pair with free shipping), easy to install and sound great. I use them for TV and music.
Customer Review: great speakers, easy to install Summary: 5 Stars
These rc80i's were simple to install. Much more difficult getting the wiring to where you want it. Just cut the hole and there are 'posts' that swing over to clamp onto the wall. Screw down and it's done.
Only gripe is that you have to take off the wire grill to get to the screws, and you need to use a paperclip to do this. It was kind of a pain and I deformed some of the grating getting it off. Can't really tell once it's far away (on the ceiling) though.
I have a big room w/ tile and couldn't set up bookshelf speakers in good location. The sound from these blows away the speakers I was trying to use. Sound is rich and full. I mainly use it for surround sound when listening to movies/playing games, and I can definitely hear thing I never noticed (gravel crunching, rain falling, etc). Very happy with these speakers.
Customer Review: Excellent speak for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I use these for the rear left and right speakers in my home theater setup and am very pleased. I liked them so much I bought another pair to install when I moved houses. Being able to aim the tweeters toward your listening position is a nice feature, as well as the paintable exterior (the cutout pattern doubles as a paint shield) and they sound great to my ears. There are, of course, better speakers out there, but for your average home theater enthusiast these are a great buy and probably beat out all but the most expensive home theater in a box speakers, not to mention the fact that they are practically hidden in your ceiling. I'm happy because I have completed a nice home theater, and my wife is happy because there are two fewer speakers cluttering up the floor in our living room.
Customer Review: More than pleased with the RC80i and RC60i Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased these last December, 2007 from Amazon and after all these months I have been completely satisfied with the Polk Audio brand. I will agree with the others that the included templates make a tight fit. It is not to much more work to slowly chisel away to get that perfect fit though. I never did anything like this before and I'm completely amazed of the outcome. You can't go wrong with the template, just make sure you go in the attic and clear out any insulation that might fall on you.
This was my setup for the home theater and my wife and I are completely happy with the sound, look, and would purchase Polk Audio again.

Customer Review: Excellent sound, easy installation, superb bass, well worth the money Summary: 5 Stars
Pros:
- great sound, paired with a Sony STR-DH510 and Sonos ZP90
- easy installation (only required loosening of 2 screws to pop it in to the ceiling hole)
- superb bass (set my equalizer to +4 for bass, it is more than enough to move the floor)
- great value (for this price, it is very well worth it)
- excellent build quality
Cons:
- getting the speaker grills off took a bit of work at first, but then I used a paperclip and they came out effortlessly
Conclusion: I have 4 of these speakers installed in the ceilings of a 650 sq. ft. apartment in the city. Even at full blast my tenant cannot hear them upstairs. Each literally took me 5 minutes to install. I highly recommend them.
