Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Plantronics CT12 2.4 GHz DSS Cordless Headset Phone with Caller ID

Customer Review: Love it, I own 3!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own both the CT10 & two CT12 models. The caller ID on the CT12 was my reason for getting the updated model. It stores the last 70 calls and has a phone book feature for frequently called people. I will never go back to a regular phone! The ability to multi-task wearing these headsets is priceless! The sound quality is good and the batteries last for a fairly long period of time. I find it is perfect for free VIOP calls made on the internet and have one just for my majicJack device so I can have both hands free for computer work while on the phone. I occasionally wear it outside and around my building to the laundry and it gets a bit scratchy away from the base unit, but anywhere in the home it works great. The Firelfy headset (a blinking light on the mic tip) tells others you are on a call. It doesn't have a volume control, but I did buy a replacement Plantronics headset (M210C) that was not a Firefly that did. IMO, this headset feature is a must. I often find myself turning the call volume down, esp if they are on a cell phone in a busy area, as they are a bit too loud.

My only complaints about the CT12: you cannot answer or talk on the phone while the unit is still in the cradle. That is my biggest complaint but it is not a real big issue. So, if you have a low battery you can't talk on it until you remove it from the charger. (This is not the case with the older CT-10). Also, the clip on the unit is a weak link as there isn't much tension, so I have had it fall off my clothes a lot. It is pretty sturdy as it hasn't broken yet even though it has hit the floor quite a few times! Overall, I recommend it to everyone I know with a home phone and have bought three for myself plus for some friends.

Customer Review: Possibly being discontinued ??
Summary: 5 Stars

I've still researching cordless headless telephones (so my 5 star review is based on hopeful thinking), unsuccessfully trying to find a Plantronics CT10 in view of the consistent reports of wireless router interference with the CT12. One of the sellers I just spoke to said that the CT12 is also being discontinued, in favor of the more expensive Calisto. That seems plausible, since Plantronics undoubtedly is receiving a wave of complaints and returns of the CT12 in view of wireless router interference. I'd go for the Calisto, except I greatly prefer an over-the-head headset. So this is a heads-up, if you are interested in the CT12, to get it now before it possibly goes the way of the CT10.

UPDATE. I now see, on a link: "The Plantronics CT14 replaces the discontinued CT11 and CT12 models and is expected to be available for shipping in early January 2009. You may order it now to be first in line for shipping as soon as product arrives at the warehouse." So the Calisto is not the replacement.

In my office, with multi-line telephones, I'm using a Plantronics CA10 cordless headset that I like a lot. (They call it a "cordless amplifier.") The CA10, although not a standalone telephone, looks a lot like a CT10, except the belt-clip (or wherever) unit does not have a dial pad. My guess is the CA10, also now discontinued, operates in the 900 MHz frequency range. I don't think there is a CA12.

Customer Review: Excellent for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had zero problems with this product to date. The two main negatives that seem listed in other reviews do not affect me: (1) the phone interfering with their wireless routers. This may be true, but I do not have one, so I would have to trust that this problem may be an issue for those that do have a router. (2) The belt clip falling off. They must be doing cartwheels or maybe it has been improved since they wrote their review, as it has not been a problem in the least. Besides the phone is small enough and the cord long enough to put comfortably in a pant pocket.

The headset is comfortable and the sound is as clear as talking on any other phone I have owned. Other people have told me they cannot tell any difference when they listen to me either and that I come in as clear as any other call.

One minor negative:

No battery indicator: This unit will only tell you the battery status when it's dieing. Even cheap phones are able to tell you the current charge status. However the battery life seems to be about 6 hours, so unless you are using this for business and talk longer than that at a sitting, it is a mute point.

Customer Review: Great buy for home office or just home use
Summary: 5 Stars

I rarely write reviews for things like this, but I always appreciate other people writing them so I felt compelled.

I work from home about 30% of the time and I am in a job where I'm on the phone 4 hours a day at least. I was tired of the neckaches I'd get working at home....cradling my phone in my neck for hours at a time wasn't working for me, so I came on Amazon and bought this based on other reviews.

It is WELL WORTH the $. Already I use it while typing on my computer, while cooking, while taking out the garbage. My husband was talking on it the other day while painting our basement!

The headset/sound quality is very clear and the small phone piece clips right to your pants. I want to buy one for our other rooms I love it so much. The numbers on the keypad are a bit small so you can't type phone numbers really fast, but who cares. So far I'm finding this to be better than the headset I have in my office at work!

Highly recommended if you talk on the phone a lot for a home-based business, or even for a mom who wants to be able to hold her kid and talk on the phone at the same time. An excellent buy!

Customer Review: Excellent Sound Quality, Works with my wireless network
Summary: 5 Stars

First, I get excellent sound quality. I use it for conference
calls every day, and the other conferees say that they can
hear me really well, much better than a former cordless (Uniden)
phone also at 2.4 Ghz.

Next, I have a wireless 802.11b network, based on a Linksys
WET11. Yes it can totally shut down the network, but if I push
the "chan" button while attempting to transmit data on the
network, after several pushes it seems to find a set of channels
(it uses spread spectrum) that allows me to talk and use the
network at the same time. I found that an even more reliable
method is to be accessing a webpage or somesuch at the same time
that I push the "talk" button. In that situation it consistently
chooses a channel combination that coexists peacefully with my
network. In fact I know I've hit the right combination because
I hear a small amount of static in the headset when transferring
data over the network. Oh, and by the way I have my wireless-b
channel set to 11.

Overall I'm very pleased with the phone.
