Once I got done banging my head against the wall...

After following all the instructions and helpful hints posted here, my Wii was able to find the access point, but could not connect no matter what I set in the Planex Utility AP settings, here's what I finally figured out:

I had to go into my Network Options in Control Panel and set the WINDOWS Internet Connection Sharing settings for my WIRED connection to ALLOW other network users to share my access to http:, https:, etc. Once I did that, it worked perfectly.

So, do what other users here have suggested, install it from the Utility CD, go to the Planex web site to get the updated driver, and THEN update your Windows Internet Connection Sharing settings to allow sharing.

Once you get it working, it does what it says it will do. But, like others have said, the documentation is pretty horrid, and it leaves out a lot of information. It also takes a lot longer to set up than the instructions would have you believe.

Customer Review: Instructions on How To Connect!!
Summary: 4 Stars

Hello everyone,

To enable GAMING MODE/ad-hoc/internet connection sharing/wii/ds/psp/all that good stuff, you need to use the software Utility that comes on the disc. DO NOT USE THE XP CONNECTION PROPERTIES WIZARD/DIALOG AT ALL. Once the software utility is running, right click the utility icon in the lower right corner of your screen, on your taskbar. Select AP mode. The utility will drastically change and turn itself on automatically. From there, you can configure all the fun stuff.

I give the hardware an A+ but the software/documentation an F! This extremely useful AP mode is so hidden, I would have never found it! I hope this advice helps shave some hours off a frustrating install.

Customer Review: Portable
Summary: 4 Stars

This was an iffy purchase from the beginning. I wanted to get the Nintendo WiFi dongle originally, but they are in short supply and the few available are getting more and more expensive. I gave this one a shot and after I got the software installed, I found that it was pretty easy to use and the DS, PDA, and notebooks all connected rather effortlessly. Once the software is all installed, the trick is to right-click the Planex icon that appears next to the clock (Windows XP), then choose 'switch to AP mode'. It's relatively automatic after that. I would not recommend it to someone intimidated by setting up wireless connections, but otherwise it is a handy little gadget!

Customer Review: Awesome, And some hints on getting started

Works like it is supposed to but hard to get going, but i have a solution for a lot of people having trouble with the access point mode. 1st-do the install of drivers with the cd and not windows install, 2nd-do driver update on their website, and 3rd- in ap mode, go to channel and select channel 11 and apply. I was having the same connection issues as a lot of others until i did this! try it and please comment if it helped you!

Customer Review: Vista users be aware
Summary: 4 Stars

If you want to use it for Xlink-kai and you are a vista user, be aware. It works pretty fine on Win XP I spent 20 minutes on setting it up.It's easy if you have basic knowledge of Kai and you follow the instruction video on youtube.
However, it took me 10 hours to set up in vista, and it still doesnt work.In this product's official website, it states clearly that this wireless adapter cant work Xlink in Win Vista.
