Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Pioneer HTS-GS1 5.1-Channel Surround Sound System for the Xbox 360

Customer Review: Great System
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one great system for the price. You can't beat the sound for the money you spend. I'm sure you can't find a better system for under 150 bucks. Some reviews say you can't hook up to your T.V to play from cable or dish but you can. You just need a audio input cord(doesn't come with system). Great for gamers, people on budget(like me), and medium size rooms.

Customer Review: A quality value!

Definitely the way to go if you're complementing your Xbox 360 with Dolby Digital or surround sound on a budget. There are some deficiencies with this system, but if time, space and money are issues for you, this is a 'no brainer'. This is a great looking system for your Xbox 360, with digital inputs to meet requirements for a small 'theater' environment. I recommend no larger than a 32" HDTV in a room about bedroom size. Cable TV can be routed through the subwoofer/receiver with seamless and satisfactory results. Your remote is somewhat balky, due to some set up and other functions located in the hidden lower section of the remote under a slider-like cover. I would recommend purchasing the Xbox 360 Logitech Harmony remote to take over total control of your new system, however. Harmonic distortion at the high end of the audible spectrum can be a probem if this unit is pushed to extremes, so beware of the 'cosmetic' rating of 600 watts on the advertisements. Your THD is a very ugly 10% at the higher volume settings. To achieve the normal 1% THD ratings, you must realize that to stay in this range requires a deft touch with your volume control. The speaker position of the subwoofer is interesting, in that it is totally exposed on the back end of the unit. If you have pets that like to scratch furniture, you may have the surround material, if not the speaker cone, shredded within a month or so if you do not take care with the positioning of this subwoofer/receiver unit. This unit allows for 'virtual' placement of the surround speakers, a definite plus if you hate running wires across doorways or up and down walls. Color-coded wires make connection easy, with a 30' length of distance from the subwoofer/receiver unit possible for the surround speakers positioning. To sum up, if you can purchase this unit in the $120 - $150 range, buy this system and have fun with Halo 3, Bioshock or any of your high-end games. It also does a decent job with TV and DVD's.

Customer Review: GREAT PRODUCT!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This system was the third that i have purchased. The first was a crappy coby system, the second was an expensive panasonice set. Both of these systems didnt meet my expectations so i ended up selling them on ebay. This system however has blown my expectations away. I was a little patient and waited for a price of 119.99 to pop up. Ive had this set up for a few months now and i couldnt be more happy with it. It sounds great, i love all of the different modes that it has depending on what type of media you are watching, and it is fairly easy to control. I especially love the fact that you can manually adjust speaker levels to your liking, plus it has a quiet mode that drops the speaker levels for late night use, without taking away from the quality of sound.

The only thing that isnt great about this system is that the mic it comes with kinda sucks, I ended up just setting up speaker levels myself. Other that that this is a great system, you will get more than what yuo pay for with this system.

Customer Review: Solid Sound System
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this sound system close to a year ago, and I must say the quality of sound is very good for the price.
Over time I have noticed no decrease in sound quality. This system is very easy to setup, the wires and notches with the speakers are usually flimsy in home theater systems, with this product I was very pleased with the ease of installation. This is not the highest possible quality of sound, but very close, I personally cannot notice any sort of buzzing or vibrations that can be normally associated with cheap speakers. The subwoofer is rich and sturdy, not to mention easy to move. The speakers, even though small, are very durable and produce rich sound for there size. I use these (in addition to the 360) with my television and a/v equipment. As far as I can tell, it can support up to 4 components. I would reccomend this product to anyone looking for a good sound stystem, especially for there 360 as it comes with a sleek media remote compatibile with the system.

Customer Review: Good option for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this item through one of Amazon's merchants called orangeonions.com for $140, and so far i am impressed. I replaced an old Sony HTIB, model DAV-S300, with this system due to a failure in the optical input. In addition to a standard stereo input, this system has two optical inputs and a digital coax input, which is perfect for connecting my XBOX360, PS3, and my digital cable box. Anyone replacing an old Sony DAV-S300 (all 2 of you) should note that the Pioneer HTS-GS1 has proprietary speaker cable clips that closely resemble the Sony's, but are incompatible.
The system sounds pretty good and it works well in my small living room, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone with a very large space to fill. The speakers are shielded but encased in plastic, which makes them sounds a little hollow. I have already replaced the center channel with a more robust speaker, the pioneer S-HF11C. Overall, games and movies through the 360 sound great, but TV sounds kind of quiet, especially through the center channel (replacing the center speaker has helped, but I constantly have to change the center channel power output per television channel...it gets old). The remote kind of sucks, having to slide back the cheap plastic cover to expose the real controls is annoying, and the small volume buttons at the top of the remote are inconvenient. It is nice to have the XBOX360 controls on the remote, but unnecessary since I usually have a controller nearby. Overall, I like this system, it is compact, has three digital sound inputs, and matches my 360...but don't spend more than $200 on it.
