Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD 2-Din DVD Multimedia AV ReceiverCustomer Review: Entry level DVD but very nice for the price!!! Summary: 4 Stars
I was comparing this to a similarly equipped Kenwood. I went with the Pioneer based mostly on the price and the positive reviews. I have to say that for the price it's a very good unit. It plays DVD's very nice and is viewable even in bright light. I loaded up a USB stick with MP3's and I'm impressed on how fast it loads them up. An MP3 will start playing almost immediately when you turn the unit on. Way faster then reading a CD or DVD. I also ordered the HD tuner and a back up camera but I haven't hooked them up yet. One other option I'm considering it the iPod controller even though I don't have an iPod yet. With Circuit City going out of business they have these connectors for about $15. The point is that you can hook a lot of extras on to this unit.
The sound is also very good. I've had Pioneers in the past and they always sound louder then their rated wattage. There are a lot of tweaks you can do to the EQ and Loudness to get it where you like.
There are a few features I wish this unit had that the Kenwood does have. The display is a little boring when playing the radio. For such a large screen I wish it could have had a least an EQ display or some other visual going on. Just seeing a radio station id on a 6.1 in screen is a little blah. You can display the preset buttons that take up the screen but that's still pretty boring. You can't upload your own backgrounds either and are limited to 3 presets. They range from a grid design to a slightly smaller grid to dots. Yeah, exciting. You can have a video play on the background if you have a separate video source. I've not got that to work yet. Also, I don't believe that cover art is displayed on this unit when using the iPod. Those little visual touches would have been nice. But again, for the price and all the features it does have, this is a great unit.
Customer Review: Great Receiver Summary: 4 Stars
I put this unit in my 07 Dodge Ram. The sound is excellent. I originally put an after market Alpine in but I didn't like how it sounded. The Pioneer sounds so much better. The interface is easy to navigate. Not only does it play regular DVDs, it will play Divx movies right off writable DVDs. And it plays movies from your iPod. There's even an option screen that lets you change the video size for all your video playbacks. Radio stations come in nice and clear. Easy to see in the day time, very little glare...not completely gone, but hardly any to speak of at all. The Alpine receiver I had in there, was impossible to see about half the day.
The drawbacks to this receiver are pretty minimal.....the interface graphics aren't near as nice as the new receivers, but the price difference is significant. It has limited display color settings, but you're really putting it in to listen to, not to look at the buttons. It won't display album art from your iPod, but again, you can get that in the receivers that are twice the cost. Also, I wish it displayed radio information...station call letters and song title/artist's info. Some receivers do...in fact this same model number in the UK says it does have that feature...don't know why PIONEER USA dropped that. One complaint about the iPod control, you can't pick a letter to scroll through the artists names. You have to hold the arrow buttons, but you can go backward...that helps a little.
I paid just under $350 for mine. You can get better graphics and album art, but right now, you can't touch those features for under $700. This is a great receiver! (I like it so much, I'm considering buying another one for my wife's car.)
Customer Review: Works good for what it cost Summary: 4 Stars
I didn't give the product a higher rating since the business that installed it, did it wrong and I lost my ability to watch dvds. That isn't an issue with the product how ever it still makes me wonder how hard it would be to install. I do not enjoy the fact that it has a very complicated parametric equalizer on it. I listen to everything from Classical all the way to rap so I found myself always messing around with it to get the right sound (which by the way was never achieved) I had to settle with using the crappy presets (Vocal, Powerful, Max Bass, ETC) I got used to the way it sounds with in a week or two. The touch screen works great, no issues with that. It is however suppose to dim when you turn on your headlight and mine doesn't, I suppose that is due to the lame so called professionals that installed it and didn't do something right with the wiring. I am over all pleased with the product. What I like best is I got a portable hard drive and hooked it up to the USB connection and have all my music on it. That is way better then any ipod could do. 160GB+ of music. It loads quickly as well. Excellent product for the price. Just be sure you get "real" professionals to install this device.

Customer Review: Great Pioneer Product Summary: 4 Stars
I got this headunit last month and finally had it installed. It looks great in my Altima, the touch screen is real responsive and the menus are not complicated at all. I also purchased the CD1200 cable to use my ipod with it and thats works great as well the screen mimics the ipod menu.It doesn't come with the remote which kinda sucks but it's not that expensive i think it runs 20.00 if u don't buy the cable you could also use the usb it can handle up to 250gb also you can bypass the safety feature where it doesn't let you see video while the car is in motion simply take the wire that connects to the parking brake and connect it to ground and the other to a small switch that you can turn on and off twice this will trick the headunit into thinking the parking brake has been pulled touch ok on the caution/warning screen and your good to go not that i'm suggesting watching videos as your driving but your kids will enjoy a movie while your driving overall it's a good affordable pioneer product not many cons here.
Customer Review: Very Nice Sound/Picture for the price!! Summary: 4 Stars
This is an excellent 2 DIN touch screen DVD for the price. I did the install myself, and saved a few bucks, it came out very well.
Pros: Excellent sound (very good upgrade to a stock unit)
Crisp DVD picture
Very responsive Touch screen
Included USB input cable, good thing for mounting a hard drive with a ton of Mp3s.
Cons: Interface is just ok, no frills, but still ok.
Cannot upload a background picture like other pioneer models
Doesnt have built in bluetooth. (you have to get the add on module)
Have to buy the extra input cable to hook up your ipod direct.
Overall this thing kicks some decent butt, install was straight forward in my 98 Buick Regal GS. Wish they would have integrated the blutooth at least, the ipod cable i dont mind buying. But great head unit for the price, great sound and picture, so it covers its bases. I like it.
