Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Pinnacle Remote Kit for Windows Media Center On VistaCustomer Review: Works great in WMC for Windows 7 ... EXCEPT ... Summary: 3 Stars
I installed this on a Windows 7 Ultimate (64 bit) system running Windows Media center. I am using an Visiontek Video card and an ATI TV tuner card. It was basically Plug and Play for controlling WMC, and all remote functions worked out of the box. So, despite what other reviewers have indicated, you DO NOT have to have a pinnacle Video Card or TV tuner card to use it. However, try as I might, I could not get it to properly control the Comcast DTA that Comcast is forcing me to use. I tried automatic setup, picking from a list, and even having WMC learn the codes from the Comcast remote. Nothing works. The DTA in question is a DC50X, and my understanding is that the IR remote uses a XMP protocol to control the box, and I have doubts as to whether this product can support that protocol. So, changing the channel on the DTA using Media Center is pretty much useless, which is the main reason I bought it. Also, the buttons on the remote are a bit too small for my taste. The installation documentation is dreadful, and I can't even find this product on Pinnacles Website. So, if you have trouble with this product, you're pretty much on your own to fix it.
Customer Review: No problem with the product - but the fact you have to buy it separatey is a con Summary: 3 Stars
Although the product arrived in good time and in good condition, it worked great etc etc, I do have a problem. Unlike products from other manufacturers, Pinnacle don't bundle an MCE compatible remote with their TV card although they promote it as being fully compatible with MCE. I think this is misleading although not outright lying and, if you run Windows MCE or Vista with MCE integrated, you then have to spend more to get the remote. I bought the card specifically because it supported MCE but they don't make it totally clear that the remote it comes with it utterly useless for people running MCE.
Customer Review: Remote Kit Summary: 3 Stars
The Pinnacle Remote Kit is serving its purpose well enough. It would have been nice if the remote included more buttons than it provides but it serves its purpose well. One button I would have liked to have seen is the "Last Channel" button.
I'm using the IR Blaster in this kit to allow Windows Media Center to change the channel on my Cable Box.
Customer Review: Works well, IF you can get it to work. Summary: 3 Stars
Beware, this in NOT a standard Windows Media Center remote, and does not automatically work on every computer, like they do. After a little searching, and .dll inserting, it worked like a charm, but it did NOT work right out of the box on a windows XP SP3 system.
Customer Review: Junk - don't waste your money. Summary: 1 Stars
This remote is junk - don't waste your money. Get the Microsoft branded MCE remote/receiver combo. It works much better.
Background: I recently built another Win7 Media Center PC and needed a remote/receiver combo to drive the Media Center interface. I have another Win7 MCE that has the Microsoft MCE remote/receiver and that unit has worked flawlessly. The Microsoft remote can learn my Sony TV remote's ON/OFF/VOLUME function by holding down the [OK] and [DVD MENU] button. This way, I can consolidate down to 1 remote for MCE and TV functions.
Despite what the documentation says, programing for the Pinnacle remote did not work for me. Some of the buttons on the remote is tiny and hard to press. There are better remotes out there, I would not get this product.
