I was a little leery at first,what with some of the negative things I heard, but...It was easy to install (with a little help) and plays like a dream! No, it doesn't have an automatic open/close feature for the dvd tray,but you get what you pay for. I was curious at the all region code and decided to put it to use. I'll see if it works but for now, the picture and sound are sharp and clear and worth the money! I don't know what some of the people who complained were doing wrong,but this is a nice little player.Customer Review: Unbelievable for the price!!!

I've had this for 2 months now. This DVD player not only was set up in minutes, but I did not have to program anything to get it to play DVDs from Taiwan and the UK.
Other reviewers complained about the remote being too simple. I have so far not found a need for more features. However, I looked online for remotes in case I lose this one, and I found none. I suppose this will not be a problem if I buy a universal remote.
Picture quality is superb. Highly recommended.

Prior to my purchase I had been a devoted Sony customer as far as DVD players were concerned. This is my first Philips and I absolutely love it. I bought this player so I could watch DVDs from the UK. The code that other customers provided in their reviews worked flawlessly. If you are looking for a low price, high quality dvd player that can be made region free then look no further. Make it Region free you will not regretted:
I bought two of these and was disappointed to find they were both Region 1 only...until I did this:
1. Make sure there is no disc in the player.
2. Turn power off and on again.
3. Open the tray.
4. On the remote, hit 9879 and then 0. This changes unit to Region 0, meaning it'll play all regions.
5. Hit OK on the remote.
6. The screen will display a massage

wow,is the word to describe this incredible bargain.this dvd player works so much better than the one i had before it.when playing scratched dvds it doesnt skip or freeze.also if you have to stop your movie,it will remember where you left off at and play it from that point on the next time you want to watch it.believe me i know how it is trying to figure out which products are good and which are not .and this is a good one.you wont be disappointed.
