Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Philips DVP3140 Compact DVD PlayerCustomer Review: Works fine-but needs RF modulator or VCR for old TV's Summary: 5 Stars
I bought one of these DVD players for our old church TV/VCR. The DVD player works fine but does NOT have a 75 ohm Antenna out jack. Page 13 of the User's Manual says, "If your television only has a single Antenna In jack (or labeled as 75 ohm or RF in) you will need an RF modulator in order to view the DVD playback on the television."
However, I was able to make this DVD player work by running the DVD player output into the VCR Video In. The VCR had to be adjusted onscreen to take input from its auxiliary input jack. It all works fine; the only thing to remember is that you have to have a VCR to make the DVD Player work.
Customer Review: One of the Best DVD Players for the money Summary: 5 Stars
This DVD Player does do what it says. Its played every file type I've crammed on a CD and DVD so far. Yes this player has: all region code that works, plays both ntsc + pal, mpg, avi (divx, xvid) vcd. I even tried stuff encoded from different programs with great success. This unit is small and powerful. I upgraded the firmware with no problems. Highly recommend.
My next choice for a DVD Player is: Philips DVP5140 Multiformat DVD Player with DivX, MP3, Windows Media Support
Customer Review: Good player for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using phillip dvd player for almost 5 yrs. the older model just stop working last month. I purchased the player for 39.99 and last almost 5 yrs. The newer version dvp3140 works just as good as the older version. Other than the remote does not have the eject button, it works awesome. But then who need the eject button on the remote? What are you gonna do after you eject the tray from the remote? You still have to get your butt off the couch to remove the dvd...It is a good player for the price I paid and would recommend to others.
Customer Review: Replacement for the dvp642 is worth it Summary: 5 Stars
My 2+ year old Phillips DVP642 recently broke. I was going to order a replacement off amazon, but I had been putting it off.
After my other DVD player broke, I went out to the stores to find a 642.. but couldn't locate any. It seems the DVP3140 has replaced it in most stores.
Everything works the same on it, and it's a bit smaller. The remote is a weird rectangle shape, but I can deal with that.
For a DVD player that plays XVID/DivX movies and is as cheap as this one.. you can't go wrong.
Customer Review: Works great! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this from VCT Electronics (through Amazon) and armed with the info from a review about how to unlock the player to play all regions, I fired it up. It played a Region 2 (UK) DVD right out of the box; I didn't need to enter any codes.
Another reviewer had said she missed the fact that there was not an eject button for the disc on the remote. But if you hold the "Stop" button for four or five seconds, the DVD drawer will open and close. The picture quality is great. The unit does exactly what I expected.
