If you want a cheap way to stay connected within the us or out of the country without turning your computer on or off all the time, this is the phone for you. Just like using a regular phone, stays on all the time without spending or worrying about every minute you talk to your loved one. For the money spent on this phone, it is clear, has speakers and you can even hook it up to your regular lan line. I really like this phone, especially my mom who calls out of the country using skype three hours almost every day to stay in touch with relatives. Hopefully in the future it would come with web cam and video option. Thank you amazon and makers of this fine product. I used to spend 2-3 hundred dollars a month, now just my regular bills on my broadband.Customer Review: Avoid at all costs

The product is dead. The screen does not light up anymore properly and it rarely connects to Skype. Even when it is connected to Skype, incoming calls always do not ring. Really bad product. With this and the Philips DECT phone that keeps going to "searching" all the time, I am keeping away from Philips products.
It was out of the box and working in under five minutes. I did not have to configure anything except key in my Skype userid and password. Voice quality is great and the interface is easy to use. With this phone, SkypeIn for $60/yr and Skype Unlimited for $30/yr, I can now maybe say goodbye to my $30+/month VoIP service. And I am sending these phones to my parents in India too!! Good work Philips!!

I got two from this phone ,one for family who lives in europe and one for me(i live in california) first of all when you got it you need to upgrade to latest firmware and charge .A little tweak on the router part (its better to forword the ports skype uses to connect... you dont have to do this if you dont understand or donot know about config. routers but after i did made a huge difference on call quality) thats all.Another trick is unlimited usa and canada calls is only for 30 bucks plus your own number costs about 60 bucks and it comes with voice mail...90 buck a year for unlimited calling..you cant beat it...and this phone is working just perfect...Amazons price is the lowest i see aroun 119 bucks...dont wait a minute .... Was looking for a cordless Skype phone with landline capability built in. This does not need a computer running to use Skype. Setup was all of 3 minutes. Great battery life and very good sound quality. Skype calls are equal to landline quality. All my Skype contacts show up automatically on the handset screen. I paid $15 about a year ago (I think its $30 now)for unlimited Skype calls to any US or Canadian landline for a year! Im using the landline for incoming only(to keep my number which I had for a very long time) and all outgoing with Skype. I added a second handset recently and the setup for that took all of 30 seconds. The base unit can handle up to 4 handsets. I was using my Mobile instead of my free skype, because I had to be able to walk around while talking (not being tied to the PC).
So I ordered this phone from skype where it was much more expensive than here at Amazon.
The phone was complete. And everything was plug and play. And everything was working on the first atempt. No problems at all !!!

Just what I expected / wanted.
My only complaint so far is that if you power on the handset first, and then the base later,... then it does not automatically sign in,... so I have to take care to do it the other way around.
User manual on CD rom only.
