Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Philips VOIP841 PC-Free DECT 6.0 Wireless IP Phone

Customer Review: Great phone, no issues
Summary: 5 Stars

I received my voip841 (that I bought here at Amazon), and after playing with it for couple of days I have to say it works exactly as I hoped it would. I've had no issues whatsoever.

Voice quality is good (better than the phone line), so people who complain about voice quality must have been expecting the same quality as stereo headphones, which is not a realistic expectation. The quality is still the same or better than a regular phone.

As for the delay issues, I haven't had any - delay (if any at all, maybe 0.2-0.3 sec?) is the same as when using skype from my PC, so I suspect that people who have had problem with delay have an issue with the internet connection, not the phone. When having a normal conversation, you can't notice any delay, only when testing it by talking with someone who is in the same room.

Customer Review: Simple Voip
Summary: 5 Stars

Philips Voip8411B if literally as simple as plugging it in. It works as reliably and effectively as any Voip system available I have seen. I suspect the difficulty some experience with this phone system comes from a lack of experience with Skype. Two hints make this system work like a charm: 1) You must have an identity with Skype to use it. (this means you must contact Skype to establish that identity and pay for the service you intend to use in advance) The identity you establish with Skype must be entered into the phone/s display when you begin to use it. 2) You must have a compatible internet connection to assure the wireless connection occurs and you should be aware that Voip sometimes give online artifacts that make for occasional drop-outs and, sometimes, momentary interruptions - the rigors of essentially free long distance calling.

Customer Review: Well Worth the Money
Summary: 5 Stars

Have been using the phone for about a month and its truly been a blessing. Living thousands of miles from home the phone really facilitates contact and communication. The phone took no more than a few seconds to set up, and the sound quality is on par with my mobile phone and even a land line. The interface is extremely user friendly and a pleasure to use. Battery life is comparable to any standard cordless phone on the market, I've had conversation of over an hour long with barely a dent in the battery life. As with any new technology their are a few bugs, such as dropped calls and loss of mic, however they occur very rarely and are easily rectified in a matter of seconds. These shortcomings have in no in anyway hindered my enjoyment of the product.I highly suggest this phone to avid Skype users, well worth the money.

Customer Review: Excellent phone & reception
Summary: 5 Stars

All's been well with my Philips VOIP841 since it arrived a month ago.
Updating firmware was an automated operation that the phone took care of (though it took a few hours which made me a bit worried--maybe it got stuck or something).
Signal on Skype has been crystal clear (clearer than I've experienced on the computer based software Skype). And the landline reception on the phone has been clear too.
User interface is simple and easy to learn
I love the user-replacable AAA rechargeable batteries
Hands-free operation with a plug in adaptor works wonderfully too.
Overall, I have had absolutely nothing to complain about--it's the best phone I've had. Oh yea, and I give 5 stars to the sounds this phone makes--worlds better than the underwater sounds that software Skype makes :-).

Customer Review: Excellent phone, not perfect...
Summary: 5 Stars

The phones is out of the box plug in and go, you have to enter your Skype name and password but once done it is done. I found the keyboard a little cryptic to find symbols for my password.

I bought the add-on hand-set it too was a bit cryptic to get it to pair-up to the base station. I found the website for Phillips electronics to very helpful in this regard.

Voice quality is very good, not as good as the USB headset directly connected to my laptop or workstation but the added mobility are well worth the price.

The unit has a pleasing ring for Skype calls (which you change) and a separate ring for POTS (plain old telephone system) so you get both your Skype and regular calls from one phone.
