If you have a fast internet connection and want to use skype without your computer or are considering getting rid of your landline, this is what you are looking for. I am using the VOIP8411 with skype to talk to family and friend overseas and also as landline with skype in/out.
It works wonderful and the only thing that sometimes is slightly annoying is that when my Comcast cable connection has a glitch I need to reset the base station of the phone. That, however is not much of a difference compared to the Comcast VOIP we had before, and that did cost US$ 30 a month, compared to skype's US$ 50 a year. And with Comcast's VOIP TV quality tended to suffer when I was on the phone, which so far was not an issue with the VOIP8411/skype combination.
What else...? The thing is beautiful and using it or setting it up is really easy. Mine has a grey front so that even the wierd comments I read on amazon before ordering, about fingerprints showing on the hand set, are not an issue for me.

This phone works great. I find the sound quality to be very well. The key is to have a good internet speed to have it hooked up to. Having a router with your set up makes it much easier. I found the firmware on the phone to be very easy to use. I just plugged in the phone, and box. It was already to go. Just need to follow some initial set up instructions. Real easy. This phone with your Skype account works great. I purchased the pro plan, and a Skype number. So my land line/cell phone friends, and family could call me at home. This service is saving me a lot of money. No land line phone for me. I canceled my cell phone service, but I still have my cell phone. Even with it deactivated you can still call 911. You can't beat 60.00 dollars a year for service with Skype. The only thing I did not like was the initial battery charge takes a good 10 hours, or so. Hi, I am from Brazil, and bought this phone... it is my first voip phone, before that I had that boring ear phones with mic.!
Well... it does all it says.... really good job phillips.... Easy instalation, excelent audio quality. Connected it to my router, and I have a 4mbps cable connection.... works perfectly with skype....
in brazil skype isn't so popular... and skype doesn't have skypein numbers for my city! I use skypeout credits only.... have nothing to complain, considering the price of the calls. About the landline.... works perfectly too.... as any normal dect phone! Many reviewers said about the volume level... and it is adjustable... don't worry... and you can configure the phone for you favorite line (landline or skypeout) for outgoing calls, so you don't need to choose every time!!!!!
I sure recommend this product for everyone... and have to say that amazon was excelent either!!!

We have had our system now for a couple of months. Bought this unit plus an extra handset. Signed up for the regular Skype plan at $36 per year which is all of North America at no extra fee. We make a lot of calls to the UK and they are only 2 cents/minute. You don't need a pc to use this system, you simply plug the wireless base unit into your broadband and your off and running. Had a slight problem getting the second handset to sync with the base, but I called customer service and they gave me a tip that was not in the written instructions that got things working. Quality is superb. Have had no dropped or choppy calls at all. Although you don't need a pc, maintaining your account online through a computer is easier than trying to do it on the phone. Highly recommended. The system is also portable. If you travel, simply take it with you and anywhere you can access a broadband connection, you have your Skype phone.Customer Review: Philips VOIP841 Skype phone is awesome

We have been using a standard cordless phone connected to a VoSky Internet phone wizard (a piece of hardware that interfaces a standard phone to your USB port for use with Skype software) for a long time to call Germany regularly.. the quality seemed good for both ends of the calls, but as this used one of my PCs to serve up the network connection and skype software, it would cause problems if the computer was working on something heavy like video compression and such. The Skype call would stutter and be very slugish. We purchased the VOIP841 and installed it in minutes.. it pulls up the contact list in color on the handset.. it's very easy to use and the call quality is WAY WAY better! We are very happy with this device. Now my PCs can churn away or even be powered down and our Skype-out / Skype-in connection is aways ready to go. I give this product 5 stars. It's a great little phone!
