Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Pantone huey MEU101Customer Review: Easy to Install and It's Accurate Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little concerned about buying the huey Monitor Color Calibrator after reading some of the reviews published previously on Amazon. It turns out there was no need to worry. This product installs and works as easily and accurately as advertised. I finally have the five monitors that I use regularly all displaying color exactly the same - and it took less than 10 minutes each including loading the software.
All of the monitors are LCD's and all of the computers use either XP Home or Professional. The steps to calibrate are simple: 1) clean the screen with provided kit 2) install the software 3) plug in the monitor into USB connector 4) run the software and follow the easy directions. The software did all of the adjustments. There was no direction to adjust contrast or any other control on the monitor. Really easy.
Customer Review: Pantone Huey Monitor Color Calibrator Summary: 5 Stars
This gadget works great! I am using it on my 23" Olevia (HDTV), which is used as a computer monitor (mostly for photo and video editing), gaming with my XBox 360 and TV/video viewing. I had problem dialing in this monitor when switching from different video sources. Either the computer viewing was too bright (or overpixilated) or while watching video, the picture was too dark. This little gadget fixed it so that I can view in any condition and it looks great. I've also used it to adjust my 32" HD Flat panel down stairs. It looks great too. I'm considering buying a second one to take advantage of the constant monitoring under different light conditions that this gadget can do. It's small footprint doesn't take up much desktop real estate and the software is very easy to use. I highly recommend this little gadget.
Customer Review: Monitor accuracy Summary: 5 Stars
The little Huey, the monitor calibrator that can. I know that it will cause you to question your purchase when you see the tiny thing, but this is a case of good things coming in a small package. The included disc and the simple proceedure, if carefully followed, will make you an expert printer in just a few minutes. Well, maybe not, but it will at least allow you the knowledge to become one. I print a lot and never had the ability to see the monitor look about exactly like I saw the prints come out of the printer. Now I can because the monitor shows me what the printer will print out. Now I can change my print if I don't like the image I see on the monitor, and not waste paper and ink with trial prints. Huey even reminds you to calibrate every two weeks to keep your monitor calibration up to date. I love it!
Customer Review: Huey does its job Summary: 5 Stars
The product works great. I can see clearly the grayscale on my LCD monitor now. The RGB values are neutral from the shadow to the highlight on the grayscale. My CRT with low resolution is not calibrated to my satisfaction. I can not blame the heuy because old CRT is known to be a problematic one. After the monitor calibration with Huey, all of my soft-proofs have green cast in the shadow areas. What puzzles me is the RGB values of the green cast areas are quite neutral. Later on, i tried other lab's printer ICC profiles. Green cast in my soft-proof is gone with one company's printer ICC profile. From this observation, i think the green cast is not due to my monitor calibration because i do not see any green cast in my grayscale before the profile conversion. Hope my review helps.
Customer Review: This is a very good device from PhotoShop amateur point of view. Summary: 5 Stars
Research for a Monitor Color Calibrator brought my attention to the Pantone's Huey. Researching the posted reviews indicates quality instability, poor-written manual, and application's window doesn't look good. To mitigate the biggest issue from my point of view, the quality, I purchased this unit at www.hammacher.com for $72 total with S/H. This way I have lifetime warranty on exchange or refund.
I'm using the Pantone's Huey for PhotoShop CS2 on laptop wide-screen with Windows XP Pro SP 2. I'm very mach satisfied with my unit quality. Manual is not written well, and application's window doesn't comply with Microsoft standard. Because of poor-written manual you may need to research additional info on how such device works, but price is outstanding.
