Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PalmOne m130 HandheldCustomer Review: Does everything I needed! Summary: 5 Stars
I did a lot of research before purchasing my first palm pilot (my m130 for myself as a mother's day gift) and I am so glad I moved from a paper calendar to this. I originally hoped to get a phone and pda in one but to be honest w/a laptop at work and a computer at home w/internet access, I don't need wireless connectivity and I have found that anything with any phone feature gets so ridiculously expensive in addition to wanting you to pay for wireless service in addition to phone... well... I decided the option to add wireless later if I need it does exist on the m130, so I got it and a cell phone separately.I have never had any trouble, have had it over a year and I really maximize the calendar and contacts features using outlook at work and transferring everything to my palm daily. I used the documents to go feature frequently before I got a laptop, so that was really handy as a storage unit so I could work on documents between home and work. I have for the most part, given up on taking notes most of the time more because of our work culture, then the pda, when it is appropriate I certainly use the note pad feature the most of the "extras". But for everything I hoped it would do... it has been perfect. I did have to get some help from IT at work to get my outlook to synchronize properly w/the palm software, but once it was all set up it has never crashed or done anything wrong for me. There are a lot of people at my office who use this model and say the same. Slowly the whole organization is switching to outlook calendars and this really makes it easier.
Customer Review: For the newer palm user! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my third pda (second palm and one handspring) and I'm totally satisfied with the product. Palm has leapfrogged over the palm clones or 'wannabees' in features and pre-packaged software. The screen clarity is more than acceptable under most conditions, the rechargeable battery lasts plenty long in normal uses and the 4.1 OS (operating system) has some nice new features. Finally, the expansion ports are great to save files or applications without sacrificing the 8 megs on the handheld palm.Especially nice is the new feature note pad, which allows you to simply write or print a note directly on the screen without the need of graffiti or opening the memo pad. This is useful when you need to write quick--like when you're checking your voice mail and recording information. It's just like the sticky notes you use for writing down everything. Only these sticky notes don't get lost! The palm reader is a nice addition to read the increasingly popular e-books. I've added 3 books to the m-130 and the reader works great and even has an auto-scroll so you can read at your own pace. The calculator function(s) is much improved from earlier palms with the business and other math functions. Finally the accompanying software, DataVis' Documents To Go for one, let you compose or edit word, excel, or powerpoint files and transfer the files to/from your desktop or laptop. Overall, this is a good product, that is very functional and reliable, at a relatively inexpensive price!
Customer Review: I really like my Palm Summary: 5 Stars
I had been looking at the various PDAs and decided that I wanted to get one to organize my work and personal life better. I decided on the Palm M130 after looking at it in the stores. The color display is excellent. I found the tools that come with the Palm to be pretty sufficient at meeting my needs. I do a sync with my calendar program at work so I am able to carry my calendar with me in my purse. I also find that the memo pad and the to-do list to be great to organize my thoughts all in one place that I can refer back to at any time. I got the Documents To Go program for the PDA which converts Word documents to be readable on the Palm which is great if I want to bring work home without having to bring my notebook. Someone also recommended Avantgo.com to me so now, I'm able to bring stock quotes, news of the day from Yahoo, CNN, and movie times for my area home with me everyday to read or I can read while traveling. The movie times is great because on the spur of the moment, I can go to a movie without having to have a newspaper or computer around. I also am now addicted to a game called Bejeweled that I bought for the Palm.Overall, it has helped me not have to order the 2003 calendar pages for my Day Timer! I feel more organized in my work and personal life with being able to carry my schedule, addresses, and notes with me everywhere I go.
Customer Review: Perfect, especially the price Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned a Palm m130 for a couple of months and it has been everything i expected. Many of the reviews here complain about the handheld breaking after a week of use, but mine has had no problems. It has a lot of great features, like the PalmReader, word to go and all of the other software that Palm is famous for. My favorite software is the PalmReader. You can read at night without having to use a light, and it stays on the same page when you use other programs, eliminating the need for a book mark. In my opinion, it has one of the best faceplates you can buy. You can also purchase many other expansions for it, like a keyboard, bluetooth cards, wireless modems and leather cases. Within minutes of opening the box i had downloaded games and a dictionary from the internet, and didn't have to pay for any of it. Using the Palm is incredibly easy, even my dad can use it. The rechargable batteries are great and it lasts a long time. My favorite feature is the color screen. After using a monochrome screen for a while i came to the conclusion that there is no comparison. After using the color screen for a day, I could barely even see the monochrome screen that my brother has. If you're debating between which PDA to buy, get this one, you won't be disapointed.
Customer Review: Best PDA Deal for the Average Consumer Summary: 5 Stars
The Palm m130, for its price and what it offers, is probably the best deal on the PDA market right now.The m130 offers the same basic functions like any other PDA on the market: address book, calendar, notepad, beaming and other tools and accessories. Like most other PDA you can also upgrade it and download additional tools and utilities to it. The HotSync feature with your PIM software (Outlook, Palm Desktop, etc) is still there (and gradually getting better). Its biggest advantages over its competitors are simple, but important. 1. IT'S IN COLOR!!! For those of us who grew up in the "Gameboy generation" users will quickly come to appreciate it's easy-to-read color screen and you'll save yourself a few trips to the optometrist this way. Previous generations of PDA (and most current ones) are still on small screens (or even bigger screens) that are black and white and still difficult to read. Readability is not an issue for the m130. 2. Built in lithium batteries. No more Energizer or Duracel worries as this babies basically like a cell phone with Lithium batteries that are easily rechargeable, like your cell... If you are looking for a fairly inexpensive, high-quality PDA, this is a good start. Highly Recommended
