Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PalmOne Zire 72 HandheldCustomer Review: Great buy Summary: 5 Stars
After reading reviews that were good and bad for this product, I finally broke down and bought it. My reasons were pretty simple, cost and what I could get out of it. My advice to you is buy on Amazon and get the palm and hard case together. The case that comes with the unit is less than satisfying and doesn't work very well. The hard case works great and has a little camera slot in back so you don't have to take the palm all the way out to take pictures. Pictures are good quality considering they are only 1.2 megapixel
I have never had a problem with HotSyncing. I have Windows XP Home Edition and hotsyncing has been quick and easy everytime. The regular palm features (calendar, contact list, etc.) are better than I have had in the past and the new features that have been added are excellent. Camera is great, documents to go option is AWESOME and the Graffiti program is FAR BETTER then that of the older models. Voice memo is good quality and the option of playing music like an mp3 player does is a plus. You get alot for your money and I think anyone who gets this product would be satisfied.
Make sure you ask someone with Bluetooth to go over it with you first, that is the only process that can be difficult.

If you are debating between a pocket PC and a Palm, you might try downloading Palm's desktop software from the web. I was debating between a Dell and the Palm Zire 72, mostly because there seemed to be some rather negative reviews about the Palm on Amazon. What swayed me is that I love the Palm system, especially the desktop software.Well, I got my Zire 72 and I love it. I now have a complete photo album, a voice recorder, a camera plus the usually Palm goodies. Instead of hauling around a bunch of very heavy dictionaries, I am now loading them onto the Palm. No, the camera isn't as good as my stand-a-long Kodak, but it is fine and handy to have. The quality of the voice recordings is excellent-far better than my two stand-a-lone digital recorders. The included documents-to-go program works well and I actually do find myself working of documents in places I would never haul my lap-top. If you have an older Palm-my last one was an m105, I think you would be really surprised at how much more useful the newer high-res Palms are. For the price that Amazon is selling the Zire 72, it is rather an incredible package. I'm really happy I stuck with Palm.
Customer Review: Best BANG for your buck Summary: 5 Stars
Well, first off I've had my Zire 72 for over a year now and though the battery life is still much to be desired, it stays functional for several hours when I use it for the most frequent thing I use it for, mp3s. The camera though only 1.2 mp is decent. Capturing video is pretty fun, especially if your going to use to to show some one how stupid they were acting at a party or bar or something.
The only problem that I had with the palm is that after a few weeks or so the blue paint started to flake off, as i'm sure all owners of this palm have found out. But if you simply scratch it off with your fingernail you should have a sexy silver palm instead. All in all this palm is great, it has more features than any other palm on the market right now. I would not recommend it for business though, that would be more along the lines of Tungstun series. The Zire 72 is a FUN palm that I believe was made for high-school and college students. It's awesome.
Customer Review: "Old school" dog learns new tricks Summary: 5 Stars
Yeah, I'm "old school" so I was happy working w paper calendars / planners till I hit my 7th Tri(mester) at Palmer (College of Chiropractic). Juggling 3 academic calendars was precarious enough; the prospect of throwing patient appts. into the mix convinced me I should check out PDAs, and peers recommended the Zire 72. My only gripe is that the case that comes with the zire 72 has no belt clip -- and I do NOT feel comfortable leaving my $200+ purchase "lying around." I think PALM should have put a belt clip on the case for the purchase price, and spare buyers the additional purchase of a belt-clip-case. Aside from this, I've been quite happy with it thus far, (had mine about a week now) am still working on my familiarity with some of the software, but this is NOT difficult, and the camera really IS kinda nifty. If you haven't used PDAs in the past (you "ol' dawg") this model should be a welcome intro to them.
Customer Review: great product, pleased Summary: 5 Stars
I have owned my Zire for about 6 months now. I love it. I did a lot of research prior to buying and got the best deal with the zire 72. Everything about it is great. I bought the hard case to protect so I don't have the problems people have with the paint chipping off. I only wish the software was a wee-bit more compatable with mac. I am able to do almost everything, but I cannot connect to the internet to get my email and stuff. I do get to download internet stuff thru avantgo, however. So I don't know what I am doing wrong. Bottom line, not real mac friendly, but basics do work. There is a program avail, btw, that increases compatiblilty.
