Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm Tungsten E2 HandheldCustomer Review: Big improvement over Clie Summary: 5 Stars
I replaced an old Sony Clie with this and I am very happy. 1st off it is 1/2 the thickness of the old one, has a nicer look and a heavier stylus, and a more solid feel when writing in the graffitti area. The memory is huge and doesn't erase when the battery runs out. The unit holds its charge really well. Customizing the buttons and favorites was very easy.
I was a bit concerned about the problems some noted when installing and having incompatibility with a previous version of Palm software. I am pleased to report installing was a breeze and all my old contact and schedule info loaded automatically. My photos in Sony PictureIt! did not load, but the pre-installed program was easy to use and in a few minutes I had my photos on board.
I never used bluetooth or WiFi before but it was simple to hook into a wireless network. The unit looks for the network for you, you don't have to know an IP address or anything else fancy. Very cool.
It took a bit to get used to Graffitti 2, in other words the change from writing all CAPS to writing all lower case, and writing the actual letters and not special keystrokes. Once I had learned to old one it was pretty fast. But this is probably easier for new folks to learn.
Customer Review: Versatile companion Summary: 5 Stars
I had doubts about buying a Handheld, in case I was merely giving way to a desire to possess clever little gadgets. However, after owning the Tungsten E2 for a month I am completely converted (and I am only using some of its many functions). I find it enormously useful to have all my addresses (email and snail mail), telephone numbers, "To do" lists, memos, diary, and everything else in one place, knowing I will never again have to copy out data when my address book becomes full or out of date, or lose bits of paper with vital information on them. Whenever I come across anything noteworthy that I need to remember, I enter it then and there. The E2 has non-volatile memory, and I back up regularly on my computer, so I will never lose this information.
You can easily download documents. So I have, for example, my list of CDs, so that if I am in a shop or at a concert, I can check whether I might be duplicating something I already have. I can keep track of medications taken, and my blood pressure, or whatever. I also bought the Palm portable keyboard, which fits in a pocket. Instead of lugging around my portable computer, I can set this up in 30 seconds and take notes at any meeting or seminar. Amazing!
Customer Review: Great gizmo Summary: 5 Stars
I acquired one of these devices last month after my Zire22 Palm Pilot gave up the ghost. The latter no longer synchronizes, and I can't afford not to have a backup of thousands of contacts, not to mention my calendar.
So far, the item is fantastic.
Having said that, I would not recommend paying full retail for any Palm Pilot. The manufacturer's warranty, even if the item is new, lasts only a year. And all too often, quirky electronic items like this die within two years.
So I got mine used, on eBay for a mere $82, including shipping.
The Palm One Tungsten E2 is larger than the Zire 22, and heavier. It fits more snugly into the Palm Pilot leather case. It also has an electrical charging adapter and a slightly different sync cord than the lighter weight model. In addition, the Tungsten E2 allows for blue-tooth and/or infrared synchronization.
In the best case scenario, if this item lasts at lest as long as the first one did, it will more than pay for itself. At this point, I can't live without automated reminders of appointments and chores, as alas, I don't have a secretary or assistant.
Aren't electronic devices wonderful?
Customer Review: Excellent value Summary: 5 Stars
I've been using my Tungsten E2 for about one month now, and I'm very pleased. I've owned the Tungsten E and Zire 71 models, and the Tungsten E2 is definitely an improvement. The screen looks very good, and it is even readable in direct sunlight. The battery life has been excellent, and the Bluetooth works great. I really think the Tungsten E2 remains an excellent value for those who want lots of functionality but do not require 802.11 wireless or a larger screen (i.e. the TX model). I use mine heavily, and I've not experienced any problems so far. The only thing I don't like about this model is that I can't charge the device via USB. I don't like having to carry the large AC adapter with me when I travel. I miss being able to charge my Zire 71 via the USB cable, whether it was connected to my laptop or the car adapter which came with my USB sync cable. Aside from this one complaint though, I highly recommend this device--even in light of the two new models Palm recently released (the TX and Z22 models). Of course, if you don't mind spending the extra money, go for the TX model. Otherwise, I think the price and features of the Tungsten E2 make it an excellent value.
Customer Review: Great for what I need Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned my Palm Pilot Tungsten E2 for around three years now. I love it! It holds my whole life. I've dropped it a bunch of times. It's gotten wet. It's been very cold and very hot. It's gone dead a few times & I've reset it and lost nothing. (I also back it up on the computer with the hot sync fairly regularly so that if it ever does go completely tilt-whirl, I'll only have lost a few weeks worth of stuff.) The battery lasts a good long time. Of course, I'm not much of a techie & I don't use it for an MP3 player and I never bothered to use the blue tooth stuff as I have nothing else that is blue tooth enabled. But it's got my whole calendar (extensive), all my contacts (extensive & detailed), my diet info, my medical info, my personal data is sealed away under password (which really works - I forgot the password for 4 months & could not get in, no way, no how - aggravating but reassuring). I have games to keep me from getting too bored in waiting rooms with three year old magazines. And I love the task reminders and the memo function. I don't need it to be fancier than a basic life organizer, but for that it works absolutely great and is very, very reliable!
