Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm TX HandheldCustomer Review: Palm TX is Awesome!!! Summary: 5 Stars
The Palm TX is awesome!!!
As I learn more about the Palm TX, I become even more pleased with my purchase decision.
Initially I didn't think I would use the 802.11b and the bluetooth connectivity. Then I discovered that I can use bluetooth to pull pictures off of my cell phone. I started using ADVANTGO so that I had movie reviews and listings, as well as current trade magazine articles. I chose not to synch ADVANTGO with my USB cable. I just get my updates off the internet with my 802.11b wireless hub.
I also love how my upgraded PocketTunes interfaces with Windows Media player. I can easily select WMA music files and send them to my Palm TX.
I use my Outlook email client to do my scheduling, and I love how I can just cut and past emails of my travel arrangements into a note for my appointment. Confirmation numbers, Flight times and numbers, etc. right at my finger tips.
My Ultralingua Spanish dictionary is also quickly available when I come across a word I need.
I create my own web pages and suck them into my Palm TX with plucker. So now I have my own custom phone book application for an entire directory of the members in my church congregation.
I like the ability to have an ebook available for those times that I have a few minutes to read. My wife read an ebook to me as we drove for 6 hours and my battery only dropped to 75%.
I love how I have a color screen and I can quickly make brighter or dimmer, and how I can minimize the virtual keyboard or stylus pad.
Yes, my Palm TX is awesome!!!
Customer Review: My 3rd PALM Summary: 5 Stars
I've owned an M100 and the Zire 72. I was fully prepared this time to switch technologies and transfer over to the Pocket PC, but after much research and reading I realized that without a doubt, Palm is still the best bang for the money. This machine does not double as a good workable laptop, but I like the fact that I no longer have to drag a bulky machine around just to do a quick check of my email. WiFi signals abound so you can jump on and off a connection quickly and move on with your day. I am also sold on bluetooth, which I use for GPS, I find there are advantages to being cord-free.
Regarding the PALM OS, not much has changed over the last few years, but not much needed to change. I am happy with the functionality. The speaker on the machine is a little weak, but that problem can easily be bypassed with a good set of headphones. Like the Zire 72, the charge on the machine is limited but now you can quickly recharge the device with the USB connection. A battery backup is also available that uses 4 AA batteries.
This device doubles as an mp3 player and you can download your videos. The screen has pretty good resolution and is larger than the screen you will find on most cell phones. Word Documents, pdfs and many file types can be accomodated with this machine.
Unlike the Zire, there is no camera but I have other devices that handle pictures and videos so it wasn't necessary, I would much rather have WiFi Internet capabilities. There is also no audio recording feature, but I don't need that as well, the Zire never did a good job with that either.
Customer Review: Great little toy Summary: 5 Stars
I am a week into my new Palm and I love it. This is the first handheld device that I have purchased, so I had no upgrade issues that many of the other reviewers commented on. First sync with Outlook worked smoothly. I had a few issues with Palm not seeing computer, but unplugging and replugging sync cord into Palm usually solved the problem.
I have downloaded Office files, and the Document software works smoothly. Music downloads from Windows Media Player are also very easy to master. I downloaded the TCPMP media player and FILEZ for file management which I highly recommend. After a rather steep learning curve in DVD copying (none of which related to the Palm), I did manage to copy full length movies to my Palm, which is pretty darn cool. I think I am going to purchase a card reader, just to speed up the process a little, but the hotsync program does do the job albiet slowly.
I bought 2 SD cards, a 1GB and a 2GB. Currently I'm mostly using the 1GB for everyday use, music and misc file storage, and saving the 2GB just for movies, since they do take a lot of space and a long time to transfer.
Wireless and internet work well. It does take a little getting used to surfing on this small of screen, but functionality is there. I don't have anything Bluetooth, so I have no thoughts on that as yet.
All told, I would recommend this product to anyone. It has helped my orginazation and planning with the calendar and tasks features, and works well as a mp3 player. If you have a little more "geek" ability and some patience, you can expand it to almost laptop capabilities.
Customer Review: Exceeds Expectations Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased from Amazon.com several months ago, the product arrived on time and in perfect condition. I was upgrading from a Palm m515 and wanted to continue with the very stable and easy to use Palm operating system.
The TX has several notable improvements but perhaps the most useful is WiFi. Since I travel frequently, the abiltiy to access the web remotely (at no cost!) is great. I also greatly appreciate the abiltiy to download many apps, including free ones such as airline schedules that update automatically when I Hot Sync. (Avant Go's free service is highly recommended).
Video display is incredibly clear and crisp, enabling viewing and sharing photos easily. Shifting from portrait to lanscape, and expanding the viewing area by collapsing the graffiti area is slick.
The graffiti input is easy, although this device uses version 2 and I sitll find myself falling back to my version 1 practices. Nonetheless, it is still very easy and I prefer it over the qwerty keyboard input on other devices.
The Palm user interface remains one of the most intuitive on the market. Frequently i'll try something, and it works. It's that logical. No need for the user manaul, although there are several tricks in there!
My only disappointment was the shift from metal/glass to plastic. It's probably just as durable, but I appreciated the solid 'industrial' feel of the m515.
All in all, the TX helps me stay organized. It's my 'official' system of record for so mcuh of my personal data and I travel no where without it.
Customer Review: Need a Case? Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first PDA and I have to say that I really like it. It does all that I want and more. I am still learning but so far I have sync'd with Outlook contacts and calanders without a hitch.
My only gripe is that I had a horrible time finding a belt case that I liked. None of the cases on Amazon or Palm seemed to be good enough. Most were bulky books or had cheap plastic belt clips that everyone said broke in the first couple months. I finally found the case.
I cannot seem to give the link to another site but the case is called:
Premier Leather Belt Case for iPAQ h2000, h3600, h3700, h3800, h3900, h5400, h5500, h6300, hx4700, hw6500 Series.
You can see it on the HP website under Handheld Accessories.
If you do not mind having an HP logo on your case (I could care less), then this case is a perfect belt case. It fits the Palm TX like a glove with no slip. It has a double magnetic flap. And most important, the belt clip is a sturdy metal clip that has plenty of grip. There are a couple of spots inside for SD cards and they seem to be stury but the bottom and sides are open so it is possible for them to fall out. Low risk for me since I do not plan to carry more than the 2GB that I added. When in the case, the SD chip in the palm is covered so no worries about that falling out. The headphone jack is clear of any obstructions and you can remove the PDA from the case without unpluging the headphone jack.
The only reason for my review was to point others that want a nice looking case to a good option.
