Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm TX HandheldCustomer Review: Palm TX Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a new Palm TX after my first one was damage during a unexpected dunking. Why would I purcahse another TX to replace the old one when there are smartphones which does the same thing in both the Palm and Windows OS? Simple because I was thrilled with the old one.
There are people who will complain that the Palm OS is old, and that Palm needs a new one, but these are the reasons that I love my TX, and the Palm OS that is in existence. It was easy to operate right out of the box, therefore insuring that I was able to get organized quickly without spending a lot of time figuring out how to operate it. I get all the benefits of an iPod at the same time I have an organizer, a book to read, games to play, internet connection, all in one easy to use package, and with SD cards I don't have to worry about running out of memory. And usually if I need something else to make my life easier there is software galore to choose from, and quite a bit of it free, which fits my budget very well.
Liftestyle enhancer: As a student I found the flashcard programs very helpful in studying, I found software to help me keep track of my teachers' offices, my grades in the class, and the homework assigned. As a worker, I found software which helped me keep track of the hours I worked as well as what I earned on each day, clocks to alert me when it was time to take a break, and a time to return to work or study. While waiting in lines I could study, play a game, listen to music or even watch a movie or a videopod of the news, or even read a book. At wi-fi hotspots I could check my email, my stock portfolio, or even im a friend, co-worker or fellow student.
Do I care that the OS that Palm has is an old one when I can keep track, with ease, of my schedule, have a little fun and relaxation, and not have to carry around a lot of devices in order to do so? It works, it did all that I wanted it to do when I first purchase it, and I have found even more things to enjoy about it. Palm TX Review: Palm is back on top! Summary: 5 Stars
Palm has a hit with the TX.
I'm sorry to read so many negative reviews of the product. The complaints mainly come from those that just upgraded and couldn't get thier old software to work, or they received a defective device.
My product worked perfectly from day one. I've used Handspring and then Sony products for years. I frankly found the non-Palm products to be much better than Palm in terms of innovation, features and technology. But this time Palm got it right.
The software that comes with it is a perfect starter suite. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the calculator was a much improved version and is, in fact, several different calculators in one, depending on they type of math you need to do. That alone saved me paying nearly $85 for additional software. Documents from Word or Excel work perfectly. And the wi-fi is wonderfully done. It's nice to check my email or the news at the end of the day without firing up my computer.
I no longer need wallet pictures of my loved ones. I keep them on the TX -- and video clips too.
I use Act! software for my contact manager (I don't recommend the 2006 version, but you need it for the TX). So I can't comment on that function of this model.
After several months of use, I'm finding the battery life to be excellent. I use my TX 30 minutes to 2 hours every day and I often go a whole week on a charge. If you are doing a lot of Wi-fi it does run the battery down faster, but for other uses it's exceptional.
The ability to use the screen horizontally or vertically is very helpful, especially doing spread sheets. And the pop-up keyboard is very nice and well done. The larger screen is nice when you don't need the input screens, but when you do need them they are well done and easy to operate.
The Palm TX isn't perfect, but it's the best PDA on the market today for the price.
Customer Review: A Great All-Around PDA Summary: 5 Stars
The Palm TX is, IMHO, the best balance between price and functionality.
This model lacks the bells and whistles of some previous Palm offerings, such as a built in camera or voice recorder. But what it lacks in flash, it more than makes up for in substance when it comes to the nuts and bolts features you need and use everyday. The built-in WIFI is very useful on the road and long overdue in a Palm device in this price range. The ability to check mail or look up an online reference on the go extends the device's useability tremendously in an online-centric world. Add to that a large screen, Documents to Go version 7 in ROM (for handling common Office documents), Bluetooth connectivity for your cellphone plus Pocket Tunes for listening to music, and the TX's utility approaches that of a laptop. The Non-Volatile File System (NVFS) has improved since its inception on the T5, although there are still occasional drawbacks such as slower application starts and sluggish Graffiti performance in certain situations. These, however, are easily overlooked when compared to the peace of mind in having a PDA that is very hard to kill in terms of losing data from a dead battery. Add a memory card and a good backup program (I use BackupMan-2.0), and it's virtually impossible to lose data for any reason.
I may be one of the few people I know who prefers to carry a separate PDA and cellphone, rather then expect one device to do both jobs well. With the TX, I can let my V3-Razr be a small, light comfortable device for voice, while the PDA does the graphical heavy lifting and web access I need away from the office. I have yet to see a convergence device that was both comfortable to use as a phone and practical to use as a laptop replacement, but the phone/TX combo gets it done.
I highly recommend the Palm TX as a balanced solution for the busy professional.
Customer Review: Used Palm TX Handheld Summary: 5 Stars
Used Palm TX works as expected, however, Original Palm software was missing from the Bundle. (Item Appropriately Discounted for "USED" status, so I'm still very happy with product). Fortunately, I've previously purchased 3 of these "TX" products before as New and Re-Furbished, all which have worked great. (One of the previously purchased TX's was lost so I had original software available for the "used" product. (2 Household Nurses use Free ePocrates and purchased Licensed Diagnostic Drug description software, as well as Clinic Patient Reports using Palm Word Forms which download to Computer for later printing)(also manages Contacts, meetings and Engineering projects review status)
<TX MODEL ALLOWS MORE INDEPENDANCE FROM NEWER PALM-PRE SYSTEM>
This "TX" product worked "TOO WELL"(as an independent PDA) because it is no longer made and the PALM SYSTEM has been re-designed to FORCE the USER to purchase ON-LINE CONNECTIVITY (active Web dependent) to allow users to obtain the same FUNCTIONALITY as in the newer PALM-PRE PHONE. This NEWER PALM-PRE BUSINESS MODEL forces a repetitive monthly fee payable as a phone service as well as the MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION services for additional web-based software purchases. (Software Execution depends on On-Line Server access.) Valid On-Line Backup Service available for FEE, which duplicates the original FREE (user independent) Home Computer based wireless/cable-connect Backup Service.
The PALM TX wireless home computer backup feature was used by me to reload my original software, files and electronic Books (yes, it also services as a "Kindle" like book reader, using free Mobi-pocket palm software) onto this "USED" TX. I recommend getting the TX while you can because they are the best in functionality and dependability. (We also once had a Dell (Windows) PDA which offered less bang for the buck).
Customer Review: Why Did I Wait So Long To Upgrade? Summary: 5 Stars
Hello. I upgraded to the Palm TX from a Palm 130 and am I ever happy that I have this jewel in my possession! My 130 served me well, but it had very few working parts and it was getting more & more frustrating to use. I originally thought I wanted a Tungsten, but I wasn't real happy with many of the reviews I read and I prefer a PDA with the Palm name (they are probably the exact same product with a different name). I couldn't believe how fast it arrived without paying for faster delivery. The first thing that caught my eye when I saw it was the large screen. I LOVE it! As a first time grandma, I will have a lot of room for large pictures of our red-headed Princess. The PDA was a little overwhelming at first until I took an afternoon and decided to get acquainted with it and learn how to navigate it. And I am still learning.
I have no regrets about purchasing the Palm TX. I know I have a great product for a great price. Now I can look at many different pictures of our Lexi & use it with the rotating screen. I can listen to music, check my email, and have an alarm reminding that there is a task that I need to do at a certain time of the day.
The only con: I wish it would have came with a booklet or a few more pages of instructions to use as returning references. There are manuals on the web at [...]. A little more hard copy pages included in the box with the Palm would have been nice.
Other than that, the only question I keep asking myself is why did I wait so long to upgrade? I highly recommend the Palm TX to anyone who needs or wants an upgrade. I don't think you will be disappointed and I doubt if you will get a better deal on the PDA & all the accessories than at Amazon.com. Debbie, Marseilles, Illinois
