Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PNY Verto GeForce 8500GT 512MB Video CardCustomer Review: Better Than I Could Have Expected! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this video card as a "low end" alternative since I love high end games but can't buy a $300 video card to run them.
Well, I don't need to. I installed this video card into my PC.
In case you're curious, here are the specs:
AMD 64 X2 4400+ 2.3Ghz Dual Core
2 GB RAM
320 GB HD
22" Acer Flat Panel Monitor
Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP1
And I added the nVidia GeForce 8500 PCIe card.
So far, I have been wildly impressed.
Now, I've been burnt before, cards that say they're powerful and end up doing poorly. However, this card said it was adequate and ended up working powerfully! I am currently running GTA IV at max settings at 1680x1050x32, and I'm pulling 78 frames per second! I'm running Flight Simulator X at max settings and am getting 63 frames per second! X Plane 9? Maximum settings on everything, plus 4x anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering, 1680x1050x32 resolution, full screen, severe thunderstorm with incredibly real looking rain, and I'm running it flawlessly!
Every single game has been maxed out and I'm still getting high frame rates. So listen: If you really need to get the most bang for the buck, this card is it. I didn't imagine that $50 low end investment would return such incredibly high results.
Highly recommended!

Customer Review: Great replacement to integrated graphics for the price! Summary: 5 Stars
My desktop was getting on in years, and so rather than purchase a new one I decided to make some low-cost upgrades. Among them, I upgraded the RAM from 512MB to 2.5GB (thank you Crucial!) for around $[...] and when I spotted this on clearance at the local Staples for $[...] I figured it couldn't hurt. The computer had a very dated Intel graphics card, and while it technically could play DVDs and most low-end video games, I knew it would be functionally obsolete before long without some kind of improvements.
I installed the newest version of the drivers from Nvidia, and threw the card in. The computer recognized it immediately, and I was instantly blown away by how crisper the desktop image looked. I knew it had been slightly fuzzy, since my HP Pavilion laptop had a Nvidia GPU and there was a noticeable difference between them. Seeing that level of clarify on my 20" monitor really let me know I had done the right thing.
Just so it gets said, I'm not much of a gamer. I might play GuildWars ever now and then, but thats about it. Still, even for that its a huge improvement over its predecessor, loading things much more quickly, and displaying them at a much higher quality than was capable before.
Customer Review: A perfect item Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this because the orange box games would crash using my integrated intel card, which was the weak point in my otherwise well equipped system. The card costs NOTHING considering what you get. It installed easily and I can now run anything I care to at the highest settings with unvarying smoothness. Almost any computer should have enough wattage to support it so you won't have to mess around with, god forbid, extra power cables, and the built in fan is more than up to the job.
The card comes with a color adjustment test in the settings panel. I tried it, and it gave me bad advice on the brightness, but once I cranked that back up I was astonished at how much better everything looked. Even icons have a warmth and 'pop' I couldn't have imagined before. No computer component has a lot of 'long term value' if that means running bleeding edge graphics in two to three years, whatever you may hear. This gets the job done now and a five hundred dollar card won't stay current all that much longer than it. I can't recommend this strongly enough.
Customer Review: Waiting For Return To Castle Wolfenstein II with my 8500 Summary: 5 Stars
the most awesome thing about Nvidia is the Forceware drivers.
No need to have 15 different cd's lying around for 15 different Vcards.
Those of you knew to building your own system keep in mind that there is
NO magic video card that will make your system all better. You also need RAM
and a nice CPU on a good mainboard. For parents looking for a card for
their child's PC yes go ahead and get this one or up from here. You always
want to keep your hardware in sequence. You will have less headache's later
if you just bite the bullet and get a card that you can play at least one good
current game. Thanks to amazon you have the ability to wait a while and find
a much better deal than local retailers. Keep in mind local retailers have
current, new release items which explains the high prices. Just come to amazon
and find an item that was released a year ago and save much more money!!!
Customer Review: Great Upgrade For Older Rigs Summary: 5 Stars
I just got this last night and it made a huge difference in my gaming and video editing. I was using a 256mb ATI X700 Pro which in its day (2004-5) was a decent card. But eventually games started to get more advanced and I figured I would upgrade but I didn't want to spend over 100 bucks because I am just a casual gamer. So I bought the GeForce 8500GT and it rocks, my desktop looks so much better, colors are more vivid, the games I do play now can be played at MAX or medium settings, with the X700 most of my newer games was at the low end range. Installation was easy, I took my old card out, put the new card in, turned it on, loaded drivers, rebooted, presto, instant graphical betterment! I recommend this card to any casual gamer or to someone with an older system from 3 or more years ago. Its a solid card and the price is perfect for casual gamers like me.
