Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PNY Geforce FX5200 256MB PCI Graphics Card

Customer Review: Great card for multiple monitors or beginners
Summary: 5 Stars

This card is great and really did beat my ATI radeon 9550. Because of the PCI slot it requires, it works on any computer and is really great for lower end computers. Put this in and you'll really bet a boost. Because of the two VGA ports, this card is great for those who are looking into multiple monitors and have several VGA monitors laying around. I originally bought two of these cards and tripple monitor at ease. For the money, I highly recomend this card for those who are still working on old integrated intel graphic.

But this graphic card is not for high end games. You can push off well with old games dating back to the first Halo or Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. But for Video editing or Image editing this is a good card. The high resolution It is capable of also helps plenty. One problem I've noticed with these cards is that they heat up a bit. If you got one of these cards a long time ago, you know that they have a fan on them. Not with these newer ones. Just do not play high graphic games on this card and the heat wont' go up. This card did work great for me on Windows Vista. Had all the flip thing and the Glass effect with tripple screen. On linux, I uses beryl at ease with this, had much better effects when from the old Radeon.

All in all, this card is deffinately worth buying for beginners in Multi Monitors and those who want to move from Integrated graphics.

Customer Review: It's Silent Because It's FANLESS !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Most video cards go bad because the fan quits working and the thing overheats !!
You can forget that problem, because the PNY FX5200 has NO FAN to crap out- and NO FAN to make noise, either! It's Quick and easy install, too !
The 256MB of memory took some load off of the CPU, and made a HUGE difference in the overall performance of the machine --- Faster initial loading, applications and programs loaded and ran faster, and overall video quality improvement was spectacular !!
A real high-performance upgrade for an older machine that's already maxxed out with memory.
It's quiet, too - (there's no noisy fan) --- but it runs fairly warm, so make sure your machine is clean inside and has good cooling.
I was very pleased in all respects, and have now bought another one for my DELL 3100 to replace the 128MB on-board GPU --- once again, a no-hassle install and a great improvement to the overall performance of the computers.
UPDATE: 10 February, 2011 --
After having 2 of these units installed in 2 DELL computers for over 2 years now, I can report that both units functioned perfectly, and have contributed a DEFINITE performance improvement in both PCs. And they did it all SILENTLY !!

NOT RECOMMENDED for Windows 7 -- although it will work, it will be a very weak link in your Windows 7's overall performance index.

Customer Review: Very good value for money
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent card for owners of older or low end machines who cannot use newer PCI-E slots or AGP. I have a 3 year-old eMachine which this installed easily in and worked well with. Prior to installing this card, 3D games were jerky and nearly unplayable but this card fixed that up quite well.

Be forewarned though that it won't overcome the limitations of a sluggish or cheap processor. It will improve the look and feel as well as screen refresh speed. If you've got a poor integrated graphics chip which off-loads a lot of the graphics rendering tasks onto your CPU, this will help tremendously. It'll also reduce the possibility of overheating.

As a bonus, the card adds a video port as well as S-video (S-video is commonly missing from low-end PCs). S-video allows you to see your computer's screen on your television as well as interface with S-video devices (such as video capture boxes and cameras).

One note about installation though, you will probably have to disable the driver for your integrated video chip to get the card to function.

Customer Review: Card solved my text problem
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently purchased a Samsung 906CW widescreen LCD monitor. I understood that it required 1440 by 900 pixel screen resolution, but didn't know my PC didn't support that resolution. (It's a few years old.) With the motherboard video, Text looked splotchy and unevenly light/dark at the available resolution settings. So, after looking for a reasonably-priced card with the required resolution, I bought this one. There are a few things you should know about it: 1. Read the "Before you Begin" section of the installation guide (PDF) on the installation CD. It tells you how and when to disable your motherboard's video device. 2. It supports flat panel displays with resolution up to 1600 x 1200 (per the specs on the box). 3. It has two VGA ports and an S-video port, but no DVI port. It's a good card for the money. The screen fills noticeably faster than it did before I installed the card, and with the Samsung monitor, colors are brilliant. I don't play video games, so I can't say how well it works with them.

Customer Review: very nice deal
Summary: 5 Stars

The video card works just as we'd hoped. We can put a video on the TV, via the computer, while hubby still works on the copmuter. Picture is nice, and setting it up was fairly easy (never heard complaints from hubby about it). Hubby's games work with this card (didn't work before), have very nice graphics and play nicely (not jumpy).

One downside, which is a problem with the TV, not the video card. With the S-video plugged in, the DVD player doesn't work; we have to disconnect the S-video first.

An FYI: keep in mind that any video card won't deal with audio. I hadn't given it much thought, and found myself disappointed (even though, logically, its a *video* card, not audio). The sound still comes from the computer speakers. Its not a problem with the video card, just an FYI for those who are about as techy as I am, and maybe haven't given that aspect any consideration.
