Customer Review: It works! Great for splitting on air DTV to multiple TVs

It works! Great for splitting on air DTV to multiple TVs

I live 60 miles from the nearest TV stations and have been trying to get a decent signal to three of my TVs. I had wasted many hours troubleshooting because my old radio shack splitter/amp, degraded the DTV signal (it worked fine for analog over the air TV, but not the new DTV).

The splitter/amp works great, all three TV's get a strong signal, as if the antenna was going directly to that TV and not being split.

Before you install this or any amp, first test your signal by going directly to one TV WITHOUT SPLITTING. This should be your baseline. The amp will probably not improve that signal, but it will keep the same strength when spilt to multiple TVs.

Also make sure you use U6 cable, not the old RJ59 (I guess the RJ59 does not work well with DTV).

One final note: This is for splitting On Air signals, not Satellite (that's what is says in the instructions).

I highly recommend this product.

Customer Review: 8 Port Bi-Directional Cable Amplifer
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this product to resolve a problem with my brand new Sony 52 inch HDTV. Prior to the installation of this product, the existing cable system in my home of 3 years had 2 4-way splitters set up in series feeding 5 non-HDTV sets. Needless to say, I was experiencing significant signal loss with the condition being most pronounced on my new HDTV. Tiling and other signal problems made many of my HD channels unwatchable. Re-booting and various suggestions from my local cable company were of no use.

After installing this device, all sets within our home are now working perfectly. It is rare to find a product that so surgically and completely corrects such an annoying problem. This product appears to be very well built and its installation was simple. I found its pricing to be very competitive when compared to other alternatives that I found on the internet and in stores.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone experiencing poor digital signals from a system with long cable runs and multiple hook-ups.

Customer Review: Impressed with the design and build quality
Summary: 5 Stars

We purchased this unit as a distribution amp/splitter to feed six separate HDTV tuners from a rooftop antenna. It is built very solidly. The unit has a hefty, high-quality feel to it with a metal housing. We really like the DC power over coax, but don't forget that you'll need to supply your own a piece of coax the right length to go from your AC wall outlet to the place where you install the amp. It has a green power LED, which is a nice touch. We used coax terminating resistor caps to seal off the unused ports (recommended practice).

Performance: before installation of this amp, we were experiencing missing channels and channel dropouts due to splitting the antenna signal too many times. This device replaces the passive splitters and delivers the proper signal strength to our HDTV tuners. We are now receiving more channels than before, and the channels are coming in more strongly and reliably than they did before we installed this amp.

Customer Review: Your signal quality should be within a certain range.

I had plans of using this to connect my whole house. I am currently only running one TV with a good ant and a Radio Shack amp. I get really great reception with my current situation. I brought this product to connect all my rooms to my TV ant. But in doing so, I lost one of my weaker stations. Upon further investigation and help from the seller. I discovered that I have too strong a signal, which overdrives this amp. So what I have decided to do is keep the amp and use it with rabbit ears in my attic which allows me to connect all my rooms. However I do not receive all the channels like I do from my large ant. I may at some time get a different ant which provides a signal somewhere between rabbit ears and my current ant to get more channels in the other rooms. I will keep my current ant for my main TV to get all the broadcast channels that are available to me. So to get the best from the unit you really need a signal that is not too weak, nor to strong.

Customer Review: Top end of the consumer grade market
Summary: 5 Stars

This was the most fully documented amplifier I could find even after searching the CATV head-end market.

No amplifier is perfect... they all add some noise and distortion to the signal. I chose this amplifier based on the published noise figure (the lower the better) and the maximum signal capability (the point at which the signal will be distorted rather than cleanly amplified). Not many vendors are willing to offer detailed specifications as is PCT --

(An internet search for the model number should easily find the published specifications)

This amplifier provides enough gain to overcome the built-in 8 way splitter loss and about 100' of coax per drop.

As an aside - Don't expect any amplifier to make a bad signal into a good signal. No amplifier will fix an antenna that is worn, the wrong type or installed incorrectly.

This amplifier does its job. I'm happy to recommend it.
