Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 8-Port Bi-Directional Cable TV HDTV Amplifier Splitter Signal Booster with Pa...Customer Review: This Drop Amp is a Dream - but lacks a few bells and whistles Summary: 5 Stars
I wish I had known about this drop amp years ago. I've been messing around with the cable company for years over their signal strength and inability to drive my setup. This amp worked beautifully right out of the box enabling me to easily hook up my cable modem, VOIP box, two interactive HDTV cable boxes, and 4 analog sets directly in a nice clean arrangement. My previous setup used so many splitters that one or the other devices either got short changed regarding signal strength or lost the ability to communicate bidirectionally. Pixilated video also cleared up.
There are perhaps only two options I would look for in a future purchase... 1) Since I installed this amp I have learned about fail-safe amps that upon a power failure enable the VOIP telephone system to continue to operate. If this is critical to you I would suggest seeking out this option, and 2) it would be nice to have the capability to add another rf input onto your distribution network (e.g., a modulated closed-circuit TV channel). I have used a Channel Vision amp in another setup to back-feed the cable box output to all the other analog TV's on the distribution network. In this way the proprietary cable channels could be watched on any set in the house.
Customer Review: Works Great Summary: 5 Stars
I recently added Comcast internet to my existing cable television setup consisting of two HD tv's and two SD tv's. The original installer didn't even connect the remaining four runs we had because he said there wasn't enough juice to keep a good HD picture. He initially had a three-way passive splitter from the feed with two runs going to the HD tv's, and the third line going to a two-way splitter that ran the other SD tv's. That wasn't a problem until I decided to go with cable internet, so I decided I'd better get a line amplifier. The reviews on this item were good enough to give it a shot and I couldn't be happier. I can't say that my picture is *better* on any tv because I always had good reception, but the reception hasn't suffered on any tv with me adding cable internet and hooking up the remaining runs.
As others have stated, this unit requires an outlet and you need a coax cable for the power connection. It's funny to read reviews where people are upset that they have to go buy a coax cable - don't we all have like 12 of these laying around the basement? :)
Bottom line - it works as described, easy install, and should almost be required if you have multiple HD tv's and cable internet.
Customer Review: No more dropped signals Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this in an attempt to cure a dropped connection problem with my wireless network. Cox brought one cable in to the basement and split it with a 3-way splitter. The cable was then split at least twice on two other runs. There are five TVs and the wireless network connected to all this. No problems with the TV pictures, but the wireless network dropped repeatedly. Sometimes unplugging the cable moden and the router worked and sometimes not. We work with two wireless laptops and this problem continued to get worse. Cox tech support advised removing splitters even though they installed some of them. Appearently, the internet signal can drop so low that the increased resistance of the splitters cause it to drop the connection. After installing the amplifier/splitter, and attaching all cable runs to it, my dropped connection has dissapeared. It's been two months and no problems. Also, I have recently started streaming Netflix wirelessly to an LG blue ray player in the basement with no drops or interuptions. I originaly considered replacing my cable modem and my router in an effort to cure my problem. Tried this first since it was the cheapest. Glad I did.
Customer Review: Great value ,excellant product ! Summary: 5 Stars
I installed this amp. yesterday and was wondering if I would get the same results others had reported. The TV in my kids room though on a cable connection did not get any picture at all on channel 2 ,and some of the other channels would come in grainy or have double images? Also my TV Wonder on my PC would have a decent picture when I had the TV on my desktop sized down to a 5"x5" size ,however when I would put it in full screen mode then I would see just how bad the picture was coming in. Very grainy and not at all a sharp picture . This was bad becasue one of the reasons I installed this ATI TV Wonder PCI TV Tuner card was so I could copy certain sports and TV shows to my externial H.D. and then burn them to DVD? Well now the good news , after installing this 8 port amp,all 3 TV's I have hooked up instantly have a great picture ,my kids TV now gets channel 2 ,and my TV Wonder on my PC has a great picture even in full screen mode ! Needless to say Iam very happy with this product and if I knew just how well it worked I would have gladly paided double the price for it ! Even if you dont think you need one at this price buy it,IMHO

Customer Review: Works perfectly Summary: 5 Stars
Had a passive 4 way prior to adding this unit but needed to add a cable modem and adding another(or larger) passive splitter would have dropped the signal too low. I added this splitter at the main drop in about an hour, including running the new cabling and power supply. Works perfectly.
My only issue is the fact that the connections are all on the top, but I think it would be hard to find a 8 way with connections on the side. I do have to wonder if a two way splitter into two 4 ways would have worked ok. I would have ended up with little overall gain, but that should be ok with any normal incoming signal. As it it is, my connection box is barely tall enough to fit the unit and the cables and as a result I will be looking at changing out the box for a deeper box to put less strain on the cabling.
For those having problems, I would think 4dB gain should be plenty. If you need more you may want to have your cable company check your incoming signal. Either that, or you have a defective unit, or you are not getting power to the unit properly!
