Customer Review: Works with comcast cable modem
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a comcast cable tv and internet customer in Southern PA (south of York). I have had a problem with a borderline weak signal since I moved into the home 5 years ago (when Adelphia was the cable company here). I have a cable modem, digital converter box and an HDTV converter box as well as 3 other cable connections in the house. Using cable company supplied splitters I had to have the cable modem and digital converter box on the first (three port) in order for them to work at all. The third port was run to the second splitter (5 port) which ran the HDTV box and the other TV only cable connections.

The plain TV connections where always grainy but that never really bothered me since they were in the bedroom, kitchen and kids playroom. The HDTV box did have an issue being on the second splitter at times. Many channels work work fine but for On Demand or higher HDTV channels to come in properly, I would temporarily have to move the box to the first splitter replacing either the cable modem or digital box.

I've tried other amplifiers before (radio shack) and they never worked with the cable modem.

I hooked up this unit and put all of my connections on. The first connection was the cable modem to make sure it was compatible with this unit. Worked fine. Then I plugged everthing else in. I've been running for almost a month now and have not noticed any signal drop-off. No more running down to the basement to swap cable ports and the regular TV connections are no longer grainy.

Customer Review: No more fuzz!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this amplifier / splitter because I was having signal problems with the TV cable in my house. The incoming analog cable was split six ways to run to different rooms and I was losing signal and getting a fuzzy TV picture on some of the longer cable runs. This unit resolved the issue and now the picture is very clear on all of the TV's in the house.

I simply removed the old splitter and installed this one in place of it. The unit can be powered remotely using an extra coax cable. This is a convenient feature when locating the splitter in locations without power, such as an attic, crawl space, or basement. I made a and ran it from the splitter to an electrical outlet under the stairs in my basement - a distance of about 30 feet.

Notes:

A coax for supplying power is not included with the unit. You will need an extra coax TV cable long enough to reach from the unit to a power outlet.

The unit did not come with installation instructions but all of the ports on the unit are labeled. Installation should be easy for anyone possessing at least a basic knowledge of CATV principles.

This unit uses a passive (unamplified) return path. This is not an issue unless you are sending TWO-WAY communications through the unit, as with a cable modem. If you will be doing so, you will need a more expensive unit that includes an active (amplified) return path.

Customer Review: MUCH better than commonly available store amplifiers
Summary: 5 Stars

Comcast technicians came to our home and claimed that there was no way we could transfer Cable TV and Internet access from our house to our workshop 320 feet away. We installed RG11 coaxial cable (better than RG6 and RG59)obtained on eBay, and first tried Radio Shack's signal amplifier which did not work very well.

Then did internet research and discovered this unit, installed it and Viola, great internet access 320 feet away. Well built solid construction, takes the signal from the cable company and will amplify the signal thru 8 output F-connectors. Power for it can be fed into the unit thru an F-connector and the included 120vac transformer. Wish this kind of quality was available locally, but you have to seek it out online and order it.

It is important to install this unit as close to the input coaxial cable from the cable company as is practical. We found that the cable company had used an inexpensive splitter to split the input from the street into one coaxial to the TV and the other to the internet. We removed it and replaced it with this unit, improving the TV reception as well. We also found an F-connector coupler that extended the original cable from the street by about 18" for the convenience of the installer to manipulate the coaxial cable. We simply removed the coupling and connected directly into this unit, thereby eliminating additional signal loss.

Customer Review: Miracle Device For The Price
Summary: 5 Stars

Have tried several other devices over the past 6-8 years to boost my analog cable TV signal. We have a colonial with long cable runs, and multiple splits to provide access in 4 bedrooms, den, family room, etc. Other devices similar to this are much more expensive, so I have been reluctant to try them. Cheaper amplifiers do not pass broadband internet signal, so I had an extra cable split that I wanted to eliminate.

Recently, Comcast moved CSPAN to Channel 96 in my area. The reception in my home was almost non-existant, and I didn't want Comcast laying a new line during the winter. Broadband internet service has also been spottly of late.

Installed this device, which allowed me to replace 3 cable splitters and an RCA signal booster from Radio Shack. Reception on all channels is now crystal clear, even higher analog channels (e.g., 96, 99) and broadcast channels (2, 4, 7, etc.) that have historically had poor reception because of interference with the OTA signal. Internet connection seems improved, too.

Note, we receive HD signals OTA instead of through a cable or satellite box. This device corrected poor signal quality with analog cable that is hooked directly to various TV tuners.

Highly recommend this product. Great value for the price.

Customer Review: Great buy
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a lot of freezing screens for a long time and finally decided to try and fix it rather than resort to analog signals as I normally would. This product seems solidly built and corrected all of my problems. For a long time I thought I had a weak signal from the cable company but after hooking this up I had no need to resort to a "I'll be there between 12 and 4" call.

The packaging says to not expect improvement if your signal is weak to begin with (and I can believe that) but I figured I'd test it out on my little digital antenna (an RV antenna). Without this I picked up two signals. As soon as I plugged this in I picked up 8 channels, some from 35 miles away. Your mileage may vary depending on many factors but if it picked up FOX I'd have no need for cable, that was the only one I couldn't get, just too far away. I'm pretty rural so I may not have as much interference as some might.

In all respects, this is a great buy if you need to split your signal and keep it solid. Note too that I also switched my connectors from twist on to compression fittings. That got me an extra bar in the signal before I hooked this up so that may help you too and it's so much easier to put on. I wish I would have bought that tool sooner.
