Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm Z22 Handheld

Customer Review: Best (no-frills) PDA ever
Summary: 5 Stars

Rarely does a product live up to its promises. Z22 does not promise great connectivity features like web browsing or e-mail access. Nor does it promise memory expansion to hold your photo collections. It is not a phone and you cannot listen to music on it.

Z22 promises to bring order into your otherwise chaotic life. Simple. Sincere. And it does so with finesse. It has all the standard applications that you would expect in a PDA - Tasks, Memos, Notepad, Calender, Address Book etc. Quite an impressive feature list for the sub-100 price (I got it for $90). Your data would not be lost in case you forget to charge the device. Also, you can backup your data with the included Palm desktop software. The 32 megs of memory would be sufficient for most people.

I have been using Z22 for almost 7 months now. This is my first PDA and I am in love with it. Before buying, I was tempted to go for the all-in-one devices that claim to do every thing for you - play mp3s, browse internet, read office documents, wash your car etc. But I decided to go for Z22 since I needed a PDA and not a multimedia device. I certainly do not regret this decision. I carry Z22 around in my pocket all the time thanks to its sleek and lightweight design. The performance of the device has been completely hassle-free. I use the Tasks, Memos and Notepad apps quite a lot. Despite that, I need to recharge the battery only once in 8-10 days. The e-book reader comes handy on those boring flights. People like me might find Graffiti2 a bit difficult to get used to. So I invested in mobilewrite application so that I can just scribble away.

Z22 is a true-blue PDA - you pay for what you want.

Customer Review: This handy little handheld does everything you need in style
Summary: 5 Stars

When I reached the point where no paper planner could fit all my tasks, I turned to digital alternatives. As the other reviews have said, the z22 does exactly what you need it to and it does it well. If you're looking for something to make your life easier and more manageable without all the bells and whistles, this is it.

The palm z22 is lightweight and small enough to take everywhere with you. As a journalist, I make lots of contacts and need space to store their phone numbers, e-mails, and info about where I met them, what they have expertise in. The z22 has 8 separate sections to store custom information, and all your data can be entered into the handheld or your computer and synced up easily and rapidly. It's a fast, classy and intuitive alternative to buying a giant paper planner every year, and it makes life so much easier.

As for cases to protect your new-found assistant: Don't get the air case, the metal case, or the flexi case. The air case either opens too easily or not easily enough, the flexi case doesn't protect the palm's screen, and the metal case gets scratched up and opens on the left side (which is awkward for a right-handed or small-handed person). Plus, none of them protect the charger port on the palm. I found a case by Timbuk2 called the 2way that holds my palm PERFECTLY. It's made from ballistic fabric, has room for cards and straps to a backpack or purse strap. It's lightweight and secures with velcro. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to protect their palm in style without paying a lot or getting a case not made for the z22 that doesn't fit.

Customer Review: Wow! Easy Transition from Paper to PDA.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been thinking about moving from my little slips of paper to a PDA for awhile. I thought it would be too complicated to store everything on this teeny little device when I can't even figure out how to use my husband's Ipod.

Recently, however, I've noticed how hard it is to keep myself organized with 2 toddlers running around.

Day after day, my husband and I would say, "What was it I needed to pick up again?" because we couldn't remember and couldn't find the right slips of paper.

When I found myself doodling on my hand like I did in high school, I decided it was time for a change.

I did some investigation on the internet to see what would be the easiest transition from paper to PDA, and time and time again I found the Z22. Basically all I was looking for was a place to store my contacts, and my appointments, and also wanted a place I could create lists on my computer without having to print them off when I shop.

The Z22 also stores pictures, which is really a neat feature (though, I'll be honest, the quality of the images has alot to be desired).

It was under $100, and has everything I need, and if there's something else I need, I can just get the software for it. I've entered all my contacts in with cutesy little pictures next to their names, I enter all of my appointments in with ease, and anything I need to get done by a deadline can be placed on a task list that I'll see on the home screen.

I can't recommend this device enough!!

Customer Review: perfect solution for those on a budget or PDA newbies
Summary: 5 Stars

This was my first ever PDA, after years of lugging around a giant Franklin planner. I am so glad I picked this model. It's been my workhorse since the moment I received it in the mail. The calendar & task list are very easy to use, which are what I use most of the time. Since I already lug around a laptop (out of necessity), I simply use the software on my laptop to plan my day, then synch it w/the PDA first thing in the morning. It's great for taking notes on the fly, having your address book handy, and maintaining shopping lists. I use this for working out as well, keeping track of all of my reps, weights, etc. Learning how to write on the screen is very simple, and if you don't like that, you can tap out everything with a QWERTY on-screen keyboard. I recommend investing in a nice carry case (I have the Krusell snap cover, which is very practical) and extra cover sheets for the screen. Even with those purchases, this PDA is a bargain for what you get. The battery life has been great as well. I hardly ever need to pull out the charger, since it charges during synching. I only wish it came with a cradle instead of the USB cord, but that is pretty minor. The screen also isn't great for pictures, as it's kind of low-resolution, but again, I don't carry around many pictures (it also helps if the pics aren't low-light), so it's not something I really need. Still, I'm giving this 5 stars because of the price. I'll eventually upgrade to something w/wi-fi and an MS Office Suite, but for now this more than meets my needs.

Customer Review: Great entry level PDA
Summary: 5 Stars

I recently read the book Getting Things Done by David Allen and wanted to get a PDA to help me implement the ideas presented in his book. One of the main things he stressed about his organizational system is that it is mainly about "list management." Consequently, I was looking for a basic PDA that would take the place of the post-it notes that were littering my wallet. I really had no interest in extras such as Bluetooth, WiFi, hi-res graphics, MP3 player, email, ability to create/edit MS Office documents, etc. If you want that stuff, go for something like the Dell Axim x51, which is what my fiancee bought.

I've had this PDA for about a month now and, for my purposes, it is great and does everything I need it to do. I'm really only using the calendar, tasks, address book, and memos. I also like the compact size, which makes it easy to carry around - it's about half the size of my wallet. The color screen is small so it's not great for displaying graphics but it displays text very well. Battery life has also been very good. I estimate that I can go over a week without recharging (but I don't have it on constantly) so the advertised battery life is probably pretty accurate. The "Graffiti" text input is a little annoying and I am constantly having to delete and rewrite letters but I might just need more practice.

Overall, this is a great-looking, user-friendly PDA at a nice price. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for something with just the basics.
