Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm Z22 HandheldCustomer Review: Great for young and old professionals! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this PDA because I needed something to take the place of the 4 calendar's that I normally have around the office, along with the never ending list of phone numbers that I use on a constant basis. THIS DID/DOES THE JOB!
-It's not internet accessable, but that is the point! I don't need to check my email, txt someone nor make a call while on the train with this thing...THAT IS WHAT A CELL PHONE IS FOR!
-The alarm function is real good, and loud, as long as you are not outside or bury in a backpack or purse.
-The syncing function takes a few tries to get use to, but after you figure it out, it's golden. I have a mac and once you download the isync addition (2MB max), then you can sync your address book (THANK GOD!) and ical together, along with pictures onto your palm.
Cons:
-The on/off button is small not pushed up and all, so you need to press it a few times to turn it on..although, by pressing the calendar or contacts button, the palm turns on as well.
-The face protector sticker sucks! It is not easy to apply, but in the long run it probably wouldn't do much good, and would just cloud the screen
-The stylus is one of the old fashion full plastic one's. I know the treo's have a similar one, but the point is soft, thus protecting the screen.
Pros:
-Besides what I already said, the price is great, it looks good, the screen is color, fits perfectly into any pocket, no batteries and can be charged either through the USB plug or an outlet.
-I would recommend this to anyone who carrying around endless notepads, and who do not want to have a large PDA-cell phone-mini computer, ala Treo.
-This is a scheduler's dream device!
-Having something this simple really helps in our tech-inundated world
Customer Review: Super for keeping you organized!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I love, love, love my Z22! I just needed a basic PDA that would keep track of my schedule, contact info, etc. The Z22 is perfect for that! I can make to do lists and check things off as I complete them. I can keep track of addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, and any other information that I need to remember but usually forget. With two children, our schedule can get pretty crazy. In the calendar, you can assign different colors to different people (or however you want to assign them) and with just a quick glance at your calendar, you know who has something scheduled on a certain day. With the Mobile DB program that comes with the Z22, you can make all kinds of lists (it comes with a lot of lists--some that I use and some that I don't). I have a list to keep track of my baby's milestones and one to keep track of things I have loaned out to people. It's a really neat program and you can customize each list to meet your needs. The Z22 also comes with the SplashShopper program, which has different lists, but I use it mostly for the grocery list. It has loads of items pre-programmed in, and you can add your own. You check things off to add them to your "Need" list and then you check them off as you pick them up at the store. It can track prices at multiple stores and it also has a place to check if you have a coupon (so you don't forget it)! You can also beam your shopping list to someone else.
I have not yet had any problems with my Z22 and I've had it for a couple of months. My ONLY complaint so far is that the alarm is not loud enough for me to hear it unless I have it right by me. Other than that, I am very satisfied and would recommend this product to anyone who just wants to get organized!
Customer Review: Great E- Reader! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought his palm specifically for reading e-books. I'd never used an e-reader or a palm before, relying on good old fashioned paperbacks mostly, and was nervouse that the smallish screen and scrolling would be both confusing and unenjoyable. Not so!
The screen is more than decent for reading and if you still have trouble you can always enlarge the font, something you don't have the option with on printed texts. Also I never had to worry about keeping my place since the e-book program always opens up on the last spot you left off on. And instead of scrolling like you would on a regular computer program, the palm just has you toggle the center button to flip pages! No words running together as I constantly scroll and give myself a head ache!
The battery has a great life and in two weeks of rabid reading I've gone through 4 books and only had to charge up 3 times. Plus, having this has given me an extra bonus. Not only can I pull this little gem out of my purse and read on the go whenever I'm bored ( i.e. the line at the grocery store, waiting for my freinds to try on clothes at the mall, ect.)but, since I'm a nightowl, my husband doesn't have to deal with the night stand light being on while I read. The light that illuminates the screen internally is plenty bright to read by. He loves my palm so much that he' getting one of his own.
A handy little stilas is kept in a sneaky compartment of the palm and the games, calendar, notes, and lists have been great for helping me organize. This palm doesn't come with a case, but for less than $5 I was able to pick up a small samsonite digital camara case that fits it perfectly without hogging space in my purse. This has been a great purchase!
Customer Review: Outstanding pocket organizer. Summary: 5 Stars
I've heard a lot of flak directed towards the z22 for a lot of silly reasons like the low-res screen and lack of certain features that more expensive models have, but that's pretty much the POINT of the z22. It offers all the power of basic organizer/scheduler features without all of the pointless bells and whistles of Mp3 playback and mega-games playing capability and removable storage and all of that.
I want an organizer. And that's precisely what I got. This thing is seriously powerful. Not only is it easy to use and very intuitive, but the Desktop software is also just as clean and easy to use. Additionally, you can add software to it for more specific functions if you need it (like scientific calculators or more advanced financial trackers, even the ability to get RSS feeds off of your computer and read them later).
So, believe the hype...if all you're looking for is a very basic (but very powerful and flexible) schedule/organzier to save you the hassle of notebooks and scraps of paper tucked into wallets, THIS is the answer. No, it doesn't do fancy graphics or sound or wireless internet, but there are many, many people who don't want or need all of that.
If I had any gripes it would only be that the initial CD-ROM installation of the software didn't install the Photo sync software without me manually going to look for it and install it. There were also 3 other programs on the CD-ROM it didn't install without me doing the same.
Apart from that, no complaints....it works wonderfully. And the people who are getting fatal errors and/or crashing their Z22s are doing something wrong that is causing it; this is not manufacturer error and should not be mentioned here.
Customer Review: Pleasant Surprise - Good ebook reader Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product 8 months back.
Operating System:
I use this product on both Windows XP and Mac OS X Leopard. [...]
Use:
I bought this for its PDA functions. However, I now use this to do two things:
1. Create list of stuff when I go shopping.
2. Read eBooks in text format.
3. Scribble some pictures when I am bored :)
My phone pretty much does the rest of the things and does them well.
Charge/Life:
I have read several reviews about this coming dead in the package. I fortunately, had no issues. I just make sure that this is never completely discharged. As soon as it shows low charge, I immediately charge it through the USB port. Each charge lasts 4-5 days depending on the usage.
Connectivity:
I believe the lack of Bluetooth or WiFi is a boon. It's just two less things to distract you! :)
Storing images:
It can store and display images in very low resolution (160x160 pixels). So don't buy this if it's the primary reason you are going for this.
Other Info:
Most of the rest of the features are OK. The software that comes with the device (for PC/Mac) for contacts, appointments etc shows age. (Looks like typical 90s software).
The device itself never crashed and has been VERY stable.
Hope this helps! :)
---- Update Oct 29, 2010 ----
Just wanted to update that the device is still working great.
In spite of having an iPhone, iPod Touch etc, I still find this device very useful (and less distracting).
I just hope (HP) Palm will release a similar device with the new WebOS.
