Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Palm Z22 HandheldCustomer Review: PDA is fantastic! Summary: 5 Stars
I got 2 of these pdas as Christmas gifts. I set them up for my daughters before giving them on Christmas and I was really impressed with the ease of use. The palm desktop program is fantastic, makes entering all of your initial contact data, calendar items, etc. easy. Using the "synch" function loaded everything from the desktop to the pda in seconds.
The contact data that is held on the pda is impressive, with the ability to put work and personal addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, birthdays, etc. for each contact.
The calendar is really great with the ability to "color code" events such as work, doctor appointments, etc. so by glancing at the calendar you immediately know what the entry is. The repeat function is also great, it allows you to repeat events quickly and easily and the events can be repeated for any time span -- for a month or forever.
My daughters love the pdas. One daughter is a medical assistant and she was able to get a program to download onto her pda to help her with conversion of drugs and other helpful things for her job. The other daughter is currently writing her thesis and will graduate with her masters degree in family and marriage therapy in May and feels that the pda is perfect for her, especially the ability to color code events so she'll know how many patients she has in a day by quickly glancing at the calendar.
I liked the pda so much that my daughters got me one as an "early" mother's day present and I am finally organized! I now have important information at my fingertips at all times, which is really helpful.
In case you couldn't tell, I love the pda and would recommend it to anyone who wants to get organized easily and quickly.
One tip: When I got the pdas for my girls I didn't get carrying cases online and I was really sorry! I paid a lot at my local business store and could have gotten the same item for much cheaper online. I would also recommend the plastic case that is sold in a 2 pack on the site -- it adds a little padding all around the pda and makes it easier to handle.
Customer Review: Nice little gadget. Summary: 5 Stars
I came to this with little expectations after reading all the reviews here. What a nice surprise it was to find most of the claims were either incorrect or overly dramatic.
This is a product designed for simplicity and new users, not power users which is where the confusion I think lies. Comparing a Tunsten T5 to the Z22 is like comparing a Jaguar with an Escort. With that in mind, an Escort drives just fine for most users, as does the Z22. It is not designed for someone looking to replace an iPod-like device, nor is it designed for someone wanting to store really large amounts of data.
That said, it works fine. It really does. Though I've read the complaints, I've not had any trouble with the screen not being responsive, so far. I've dropped it onto the cement twice, and once it even went bouncing across the parking lot. Amazingly it still looks new.
It stores thousands of contacts, to-do lists, notes, appointments and so forth. It stores more than I will ever use and I'm a power pc user. The software it comes with is granted, very slim, but also quite useful.
It's small and very lightweight, we're talking small calculator size. I can carry it in my jeans front pocket, but for those who like very tight-wearing jeans it's probably not a good idea. Still, it sits very easily in my purse and it's not a pain to try and lug around. My cell adds tons more weight to my person than this little guy.
The memory is low and the complaints are rattled over it. Keep in mind though that because it isn't an iPod clone, it isn't designed for large file sizes. For use of getting organized and planning your day, tasks, etc., it has more than enough memory.
The screen resolution is not as great, but for the price that's a small loss to me. Other than that, I cannot find another legitimate con.
In the end it is durable, works as promised, saves the data I need and comes with a pretty price tag. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
Note: I'll comment here if I find problems in the future.
Customer Review: I love, Love, LOVE it! Summary: 5 Stars
As a former PocketPC user, I had my doubts about buying the z22, because I was afraid that something so (relatively) inexpensive would be a piece of trash. However, this little handheld is absolutely wonderful. I've customized it with software that allows me to do far more with it than I would be able to otherwise. Right now, not only do I use it for my contacts, calendar, etc (and the color coded calendar is a VERY nice feature!) but I also have a searchable database of my library so I know which books I need to buy when I go shopping, a program that keeps track of our car's performance and alerts me when it is time for routine maintence, as well as keeping a log of mileage, fill ups and history, a program that lets me work on documents on my handheld and then transfer them to my computer for printing (very useful for a busy student), a program that allows me to keep track of how much money I have in the bank (no more overdrafts for me!), a shopping program that lets me keep track of what I need to buy for gifts as well as groceries, AND, as a voracious reader, I have two ebook programs which let me download books from the web - and our local library (I have 6 books in there currently). All that in the z22's memory - it may not be expandable, but it sure holds a LOT!
The best thing about this little pocket-gem is that it doesn't lose its memory when it runs out of juice, which is the problem that, along with the lack of available software, made me stop using the PPC. And, as I said before, the color coded calender is a wonderful addition that the PPC lacked. The amount of software out there for the Palm is great, too. Something for everyone, which makes the z22 very customizable.
I only wish they'd made it so it could be used to surf the web. That would've made it perfect, but also probably far more expensive.
What more can I say? Oh yeah - I just bought one to give my mom for her birthday!
Customer Review: great for what it is Summary: 5 Stars
Please note that I have given the Z22 five stars taking into account the relative value of the price and features. Obviously this is a low-end device, so it is rated accordingly.
I bought one of these for my mother, who is still using a heavily erased and crossed-out address book and paper calendar. She has been reticent to move to electronic organizers, and I eventually decided to get this one for her partly because of the following features:
1) it has NVFS, which means that when my mother invariably forgets to charge it she will not lose all of her information.
2) it is small, light, easy to use and has a color screen.
3) it is a palm, which i've used for years and can easily show her some helpful usage tips.
One feature that I didn't know the Z22 had, and have found to be the real 'hook' as far as my mother is concerned is the ability to add images to contacts. Now my mother has pictures of each of her children and grandchildren, which are linked to their contact info. For her, that was the clincher. I think she will finally now give up her address book.
The Z22 has a great form factor, and it resembles the ipod in appearance and size - but the Palm is lighter. The screen isn't hi res, so don't expect hi definition with your photos - but it gets the job done. And the processor is certainly speedy enough.
One other nice touch is that a screen protector is included in the package - which I put on first thing. The software is pretty basic, and it includes a silly game called Crazy Daisy which will not likely get any usage.
There is one thing that I found frustrating, but it has to do with the packaging. They must be using a heavier gauge plastic for these packages, because it took me ten minutes to carefully cut through and open it without damaging the contents. Be sure you have a heavy duty exacto knife handy or a very large pair of shears.
Customer Review: Simple, perfect pda Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using my Z22 for a little over a month now, and wonder how did I survive without it? As other reviewers mentioned, if your in the market for something with a million different functions, look for something else. This is a pda, not a pocket sized personal computer.
What I love about the Z22 is it's simplicity. For someone like me, looking for something to keep track of client appointments, special dates, contacts, and other random information, this is great, and easy to use. I have only refered to the manual a few times for more technical information. Right out of the box, it was easy to navigate and input data.
Another great thing is that although, yes, there isn't a ton of memory space, you can still do a lot of different things such as opening word, excel, publisher, etc documents on it (after installing QuickOffice). I use it to edit and save excel sheets all the time. Much easier than carrying a laptop around everytime I need to update something! Also, it will read e-books, and after installing splashshopper, you can use it to keep track of grocery lists, wine lists, book lists, etc. This is great for me because upon thinking of something I need at the store or hearing of a wine I need to try, all I have to do is turn it on, write it in, and I'm done. No more forgetting little tidbits during the day. With splashshopper you can make your own lists too, so I have to-do lists for work to help keep me organized daily on what I need to do.
All over, I love my z22. Its functional, easy, and not bogged down with a lot of features I don't need, like mp3 players, wireless bluetooth, and whatnot. It keeps me organized without keeping me distracted. I would suggest this to anyone who's tired of writing notes on random pieces of paper, and carrying around a bulky paper organizer. Great product at a great price.
