Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of P3 P4900 Robotic VacuumCustomer Review: Not a roomba but meets expectations for the price Summary: 5 Stars
I found this product on sale for $35 including shipping and I thought I'd give it a try. It doesn't have any brushes or moving parts except the wheels, which means it doesn't do corners nearly as well as the roomba (which has a side brush). It also can't pick up anything heavy (the roomba can pick up a small coin, I've used it to pick up small pieces of broken glass, etc., this can't do that). Basically, what this is is a dustbuster that goes around your carpet. I just purchased it recently and only used it once so I can't speak to its longevity. However, after running it once it did pick up a decent amount of dirt/hair. The product comes with electrostatic paper you're suppose to use on tile or hard wood floors, I haven't used it so I can't say if it's any good or not. But overall for the price it seems like a decent product. The one thing that's really great about this thing is the noise. The roomba is kinda loud, you wouldn't want to run it while watching television, this thing is whisper quiet, it will not disturb you at all if it's running while your hanging out around the house. Also the lack of brushes make it less likely to get caught on something. Some caveats include...
1) No cliff sensor, do not attempt to use in a multi-story house where this thing can fall down the stairs!
2) No beeps - if it does get stuck in a corner or something you have no way of knowing, it will simply run until the battery dies (although it's pretty good at getting itself out of corners). This also means it can be harder to find once the battery runs out since it doesn't have a homebase.
3) Not as "smart" as a roomba, didn't seem to get the same level of room coverage in the same amount of time as the roomba, would spend more time in some area's and less in others.
4) Do not even think about using this thing on deep pile carpet.
5) The bumper is really low, I wouldn't be surprised if it bumped off rugs that were laid on the floor.
Still if you can get this for $50 or less and are looking for a cheap robotic vac, This thing will do the job, even if it does break down it's powered by 12 AA rechargable batteries and a charger, that alone is probably worth $20-$30 limiting your downside(although the batteries are in a case you'd have to break if you wanted to use it for this purpose).
