Customer Review: Works Just Fine

Like most folks, I was hesitant to buy a cheap 3rd party battery for my new Nikon D90. I bit the bullet because of the positive reviews I saw here.
I've shot thousands of pictures over the past few months with this battery and have not had any problems. It did take a couple of charge cycles to bring the battery to full capacity, but that is typical of lithium ion batteries.
Opteka claims that the battery capacity is 2000 mAh versus the 1500 mAh of the genuine Nikon. This is false or an exaggeration- the capacity seems to be about equal to the Nikon.
EDIT: Followup review. After using the Opteka battery for a year, I couldn't be happier with it. It acts exactly the same as the OEM battery that came with the camera- lasts a very long time in use, and doesn't self-discharge much at all. I pulled it out of my bag after 2 months of non-use expecting it to be mostly dead. To my pleasant surprise it registered fully charged in the camera and lasted through a heavy day of shooting.
I guess there is a quality control issue, as a lot of the negative reviews say that the battery came DOA. I'd say that it's worth the risk. If you get one that works, it is every bit as good as the OEM battery. If you get a dud, Amazon has a very generous return/exchange policy for defective items.
