Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver (Black)Customer Review: Amazed Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this receiver to replace a 6 year old JVC which was great, it just did not have HDMI ports. Once I hooked up the Onkyo in my media center, I realized how log I had been living without. I have a true 7.1 speaker environment, but was never able to enjoy it until the Onkyo's arrival. Besides the 4 HDMI inputs and all else you could imagine, there is even an automated speaker setup that has you position an included mic in the center, left and right of your sound room and the reciever does the rest. I have been watching movies again just see how much bettter the sound is. Also, the universal remote that came with the reciever is the first universal remote that actually worked all my components. The olny con is that the HDMI only supports 1080i, and my DVD player upconverts to 1080P which freaks out the reciever as it auto senses format and trys to set everything for you, this may be a quirk of my samsund DVD player. I just used componet cabels for it and that fixed the problem. This reciever sounds like it should cost over $1000.00 easy.
Customer Review: Amazing sound and good features for a perfect price Summary: 5 Stars
I received this as a gift to replace my 10 year old Sony STRD-1015. It supports all of the new sound formats and sounds amazing. The microphone and auto-setup features were fantastic and easy. I had a few minor problems getting it setup. I didn't have an additional HDMI cable to see the on-screen displays and they won't work out of the S-Video or composite output. I also didn't read enough to figure out that the rear speakers go into the surround ports, not the rear surround ports so the setup kept erroring out. Once those minor issues were gone, everything else was simple and sounded great. I hooked this unit up to my MythTV system via optical out and the Dolby Digital is great. Onkyo even includes labels for all of your speaker channels so It's easy to maintain your system in the future. The remote is a little awkward but I use a Harmony so didn't get used to its features before I stopped using it. Overall this is really a great unit, sounds loads better than my old Sony, is very inexpensive and does everything I need it to.
Customer Review: Wow... Summary: 5 Stars
So I will not bore you with unnecessary details, this is one hell of a receiver. I have had a Harman/Kardon AVR 125 since the day it came out and it provided, literally, a decade of really great listening. But with the advent of the Blu-ray disc and the standardization of HDMI technology its was most certainly time to get up to date. So naturally I needed something that was capable of handling DTS-HD, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS-Master Audio. This receiver fits the bill on all accounts. I would say that the most impressive feature is the Audessey 2EQ. This is a real gem of an EQ and does exactly what its advertised to do...make listening to music, movies at low volume just as interesting and involving as listening to them at reference volume. It's just uncanny, the amount of detail and depth that comes through at just a fraction of total volume. I purchased the unit this morning from Fry's for 449.99 plus 57.99 for a 5-year no questions asked replacement warranty. How could I ask for more?? God Bless Onkyo engineers.
Customer Review: Great buy Summary: 5 Stars
This is my first Onkyo receiver. My first impression is very positive.
It's working right out of the box and set up was easy.
Hooked up with KEF 3005 speakers and optimized the sound setup using its Audyssey 2EQ was like a breeze.
The best part over SR605 or SR705 is that it has 4 HDMI input (one for cable TV- upscaled to 1080i HDTV; one for my new Blue ray drive HTPC; one for my 1080P upscale DVD player) and use only HDMI out to Panasonic TH-46PZ85U plasma. HDTV video is much better than on my previous 720P Panasonic plasma. Blue ray DVDs make you never want to see other DVDs.
RIHD lets you seamlessly integrate the TX-SR606 with Panasonic plasma using VIERA Link.
Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio with HDMI make Blue ray movie sound better than that in theater.
I just start to explore a lot of functionalities of SR606. But so far so good. It's so quiet you even don't realize it's on.
I highly recommend SR606 for both the advanced functionality and the price.
Customer Review: So this is what I've been missing, wow! Summary: 5 Stars
Great A/V system. Connects more devices via HDMI, Composite, ect. than I have to connect to it. I was a bit overwhelmed have used Rube Goldberg style of split connections in the past. Aside from some odd inability to turn the system on/off while in CD mode (when using for sound from the macbook pro, and watching via HDMI/DVI) it is very good system. The auto upscale is very nice. Having an upscaling DVD player that handles 1080P makes up for what the specs indicate 1080i max helps cut the cost of going with the much more expensive model above this one. Besides, it is hard to see that much difference between either since it is only upscaling, not delivering content that would otherwise have started out as full 1080P. Not sure if this will be an issue should I decide to get a BluRay. Not even sure I will ever get one with so much HD content available directly over the air or in greater supply on line from iTunes and the like. Just not that nuts about the whole TV watching thing.
