Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of One For All URC 6131N 6-Device Universal Remote ControlCustomer Review: Perfect - but check the manual first Summary: 5 Stars
MOST IMPORTANT - this is the URC-6131N,
NOT THE URC-6131 -- there is a world of difference.
I paid five dollars for this at Walmart. So you should not be paying a whole lot more than that. It is a fantastic remote that I used for about 4 years. I finally got rid of it only because I upgraded my satellite receiver to a DirecTV branded receiver - and this remote will NOT control that brand.
It did, however, do perfectly well with all of the following:
Harmon Kardon receiver
JVC A/V receiver RX-D702B
RCA VCR
RCA TV
Sony DVD player
RCA satellite receiver for DirecTV
***note that this is NOT a learning remote - you canNOT teach it commands directly from your original device remote.
***note that this model is NOT upgradable - contrary to the claim on the web page where you buy it. You canNOT upgrade this to control any devices not already programmed in it's memory - by that I mean that you cannot do a file download or "flash" the memory yourself. You can mail the remote to OneForAll at your expense and they MAY be able to upgrade it - but to me this classifies the remote as "non-upgradeable".
Do not get confused - this product is the 6131N, NOT the 6131 , which is an entirely different story.
If you want a learning remote, or one that is upgradeable, then get a more advanced OneForAll remote - this one won't do it. An excellent example of a tuly upgradeable remote is the OneForAll URC-8910, which I upgraded to control my DirecTV receiver by writing to tech support, and they emailed me a sound file that I just played for the remote to program it with the new codes. You cannot do that with the URC-6131N.
But if you just want a simple remote that works and is small and light, where the batteries will last 6 months, then this is an excellent choice. Since you cannot "teach" it, nor upgrade it, be sure to read the product manual before you buy - and make sure that it contains the proper codes for your hardware at home. Anything not listed in the manual will not be controlled by this remote.
If I can find how to do it - I'll upload the manual. I had to go through a bit of trouble to get it directly from the manufacturer - the link on their web site will not work. And the manual listed on this product page at Amazon is NOT the correct manual - it is for the 6131, NOT the 6131N. I tried to upload the correct manual, but so far no luck - Amazon would not permit me. If you write to OneForAll they may email it to you - you'll get a response in 1 day usually.
The photo submitted by J McCammon is not the URC-6131N, it is the URC-6131. The other photos on amazon.com are correct.
