Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of OmniMount UCLX-P Articulating Wall Mount for 42" to 63" Displays (Silver)Customer Review: Great value for this solid mount Summary: 5 Stars
I recently bought the LC-52D64U Sharp Aquos and needed a sturdy mount to lift this off the stand to keep it from crashing down on my son. After looking around in the usual stores (Circuit City, Best Buy, HhGregg, etc) this mount seemed to be the only one that would support the size (and give room for growth ;->) with the full motion that was required. However, I wasn't going to spend $600+ for this amount, until I found it for a steal on Amazon.
The product arrived a day sooner then the estimated date and in perfect condition, just in time for the Christmas holidays and children visitors. The instruction booklet's illustrations left a bit to be desired, but the website cleared up the details that were lacking. Although it covered many different languages, the pics were all that were needed as it was very straight forward and easy to install. The only problem I had was with the mount base because it was so heavy that I needed one more person. One person to hold the solid base, and the other to drive the six screws into the studs with a power driver. Trying to screw these huge lugs in by hand would be a long and tiring task. Once the base was securely mounted, I put all my 155 lbs on the fully extended arms and there was minimal flex seen in the arms. Slid the TV on and that was all that was to it. All in all, about 1.5 hours.
Problems I ran into was finding 16" center studs, one more person was needed to install, and the wiring system. If you don't have 16" centered studs, you'll have to rig up another mounting system as this is ONLY designed for that width. For the wiring system, I just bought a simple wire harness from Home Depot.
This mount in an omni swivel mount and collapses down very tight against the wall. Although it comes in a silver base and not black, when on the wall, you can't see unless you get behind or underneath it. And if that really bothers you, you've got other problems besides the mount color. Also, without the TV mounted on the arms, I had to put some elbow grease behind moving them. However, once the TV was mounted, the arms were easy to manipulate the position of the TV. It also has a handy adjustment on the TV mounting bars so you can easily change the height of the TV position. Even though it requires the TV to be dismounted, I was able to quickly adjust the rails to bring the TV to the correct height. My previous mount required me to remount the base to bring it to the correct height.
There were plenty of rack mounting screws included with the mount to fit most TVs. Mine wasn't exactly listed, but I was able to find the right one with ease. Great value for the money, solid construction, and no doubt in my mind that this can hold a significant amount of weight.
Customer Review: Exactly what you need for a giant TV Summary: 5 Stars
I recently purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-60EX500 (60-inch) television (and was lucky enough to get a big discount from a friend who works for Sony.). Anyway, I figured I'd take some of the money I saved and spend it on a quality wall-mount. From the moment I unboxed the OmniMount UCLX, I knew I had made the right decision.
This is one heavy-duty piece of hardware. You will definitely need at least one other person to get this thing onto your wall-- not to mention needing at least one other person to help you get the TV onto the mount (especially if you've got a monster-sized TV).
The paper template (patented, I believe) is extremely helpful when you're trying to make sure you're lined up with the centers of your wall studs. It would be nearly impossible (without help, anyway) to hold the mount itself up on the wall while trying to make pencil marks for your drill holes. The template, however, made it a snap. There's also some leeway (a half inch or so) on the template (and mount) itself so that you can shift the mount left/right if your studs aren't perfectly 16 inches apart like mine were.
My wife and I were able to c a r e f u l l y lift the TV onto the mount--although it was a little dicey and I'd probably recommend a third person for peace of mind. It's not really worth dropping your expensive TV just so you don't have to ask a friend to help out. :)
The hardware itself is top-quality. It's quickly apparent why the box was so heavy since the joints, welds, and moving parts are all extremely solid. It's relatively easy to reposition the TV-- swiveling it around for varied viewing positions. Bear in mind, you're not going to be able to swivel your TV a full 90-degrees, but if your TV is large enough, 75-degrees is plenty for most room layouts. I'm a little confused as to why there are 4 (yes, 4) different sized allen wrenches for the various tilt, roll, swivel adjusters. Fortunately, once you get it adjusted, you won't really need them unless you want to tighten it up every once in a while. (I'm in earthquake country so it's probably worth doing every 6 months or so.)
Lastly, I bought the silver mount despite having a black TV. Honestly, it doesn't make much of a difference considering the fact that the mount isn't particularly visible. (remember which side of the TV you'll be on.)
Overall, the design is great and I have full confidence that this will stay put on my wall. Cord management could be a little better (not a ton of space to stuff thicker wires) but you can definitely work it out.
Definitely recommend this mount and I'd definitely purchase another product from OmniMount if I had the need again.
Customer Review: AMAZING and worth every penny! Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE THIS MOUNT!
I bought a huge flat panel television and did the research to figure out how to mount it on the wall. I started looking at all my options and only included this in that spirit. I had no intention of paying upwards of $250 for a mount!
Well, after reading several raving reviews I started getting interested. Nothing else had prompted such a passionate response. Now I know why!
The review that really pushed me over was the guy who recommended downloading the installation instructions and assured everyone that it really wasn't that difficult to install. He was right!
I went ahead with the purchase and the next day downloaded the instructions. After reading them over a couple times I had a clear understanding of how I was going to mount this thing. When it arrived I set aside some time on a Saturday and I put up my 50" Plasma TV, on this mount, ALL ALONE!
That's right a one man install! It was so straight forward and easy.
It took about 3 hours to get it all done but I wasn't rushing either. Here's what I did and what you can do also...
- set the printed instructions in a pile and used parts list to confirm contents
- set all the pieces out in the order I would install them to get the big picture
- used my stud finder to find the best install location (it MUST hit center on 2 studs and you must drill holes to mount it)
- used the included mounting guide with self adhesive strip to mark my holes (it even comes with a sawdust catching tray pocket - so cool!)
- grabbed my trusty cordless drill and the right sized bit and dilled holes
- used my socket set to mount the back plate to the wall
- mounted the bracket to the back of my TV
- attached the cantilever arm to the wall bracket
- hung the TV on the arm and tightened the bolts
Done!
The key to making the job so easy is to seperate the arm from the mounting bracket. Otherwise I could see it being unruly to manage.
I LOVE THIS MOUNT!!!
My huge TV pulls out away from the wall and tilts in all 4 directions (left, right, up, down) with such ease and grace.
When it's pushed flat to the wall it looks so slick and neat and when I pull it out jaws tend to drop... very satisfying.
The mount is capable of holding a foolish amount of weight (I'm 250lbs and I hung off it) and the quality of the item is really top notch - good job OmniMount!
I would highly recommend this mount to anyone over a simple tilt up/down cheapo - it's worth the extra couple hundred bucks!
Customer Review: Best plasma mount I could find Summary: 5 Stars
I'll try to keep this short and sweet. I don't mine paying for quality and this is absolutely a high quality mount. I got lucky and found this for $250 and its worth every bit of that and then some.
just finished installing my 50" plasma over the fireplace with power outlets / wires / cables run inside walls. I am very pleased with its quality and flexibility. I trust this mount to hold the weight of the 100+lb plasma with no reservations (when properly installed of course)
This includes a very nice template to make installation relatively simple and straightforward for most DIY-ers. If you are mounting this to an interior non-masonry wall, you do have to catch 2 studs with this - there are not many things you can do if your studs aren't on 16" centers, short of building new wall. There is a little lateral adjustment (~1") but thats it. Once its mounted, you can loosen some screws and slide the center of the cantilever assembly over left or right a larger amount - this is helpful if you needed to, for example as in my case, perfectly center this over a fireplace even though the studs were'nt exactly symmetrical over the centerline of the firebox.
The only thing I don't like about it is that the built-in wire 'management' system is pretty crappy - it will barely work with anything as thick as a IEC power cord. The TV power cord barely fit, and worse yet my monoprice 35ft HDMI cables (CL2 in-wall rated) are too thick and I had to use zip-ties to keep the side arm plates on, as I had to remove a few screws to even get them to fit. This is something which I consider unacceptable on a mount of this caliber but I imagine all mounts on the market will suffer from the same complaint with thick cables. Overall, the wire management thing is not too big of a deal since it is hidden from view and I will eventually forget about it.
The unit is solid, operates smooth and just by moving the tv around you can immediately tell this mount exudes quality of fit and finish. It is not loose, so it will take a bit of muscle to move this around.
If I had to buy this again, I would despite my problems with the cable management system. If I had to move to a new home, I would consider taking this mount with me. That is how good this is.
Customer Review: Superb! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a contractor who demands form, function, and durability. This omnimount surpasses the test in all three categories. It looks good, articulates smoothely and with great range, and is built like a tank.
For anyone who is reasonably equipped and mechanically inclined it is easy to install. Others should consider hiring a carpenter to do the job. I hired a service (Fire Dog) to do it, but all they did was hang the TV (52") - I wanted them to be responible for any damage that might occur to the 3 grand TV. They also hooked up all the components (Blu-Ray DVD, Satellite receiver, AV receiver, etc.) and programmed the remotes. While they did a good job with all this, I would not have been so confident in their ability to install the mount. In my case, in order to center the mount on the wall of choice, I had to make some modifications to the mounting procedure. The Omnimount requires mounting on wall studs 16" apart (center to center). I did not have this wall configuration. I instead laminated two pieces of 3/4" plywood together measuring 20"h
x 40"w and painted them flat black. I then bolted the mount to this and then mounted the whole thing centered on the wall. It spanned three wall studs and was quite sturdy. The Fire-Dog installers said they would have probably used wall-mollys to mount the Omnimount. This would have been a sure disaster. Hence my recommendation to have a good carpenter install the mount (especially for special circumstances like mine).
Finally, the price at Amazon was the best price by far. The only complaint (not Amazon's fault) was the extensive package damage done by the shipper. This is all too common with large and heavy packages and demonstrates the lack of pride these guys have in their job. Hope this review helps!
